lymelady yes, but that is just your opinion...the lives of other people have no value to many. Why should you infringe on what other people want to do? It is your beliefs. It isn't a religious belief though. It is a moral and societal belief.Quote: Just like the anti-gay thing is a belief, many believe it's a detriment to society and hurts people. I dunno why, but they do. I'm just explaining why religion comes into play on your side as well as on the opposing side. Neither has any real basis; sure it's wrong to hurt a human, but why is that worse than hurting a head of lettuce? That's all humans are worth to some people. It's a belief. To you, all of your beliefs are obviously moral and right. To them the same applies. There is no basis for the gay-marriage hurting society and people, but there is basis that killing people does. Gay marriage allows people of the same sex to marry, other people may not like that, it may anger them, but it's their anger that hurts them, not the marriage itself. If a person stabs someone in the stomach it's getting stabbed in the stomach that hurts the other person. The first person is causing direct harm to someone else.
Lettuce doesn't have a brain or nerves. That's how I know that eating it doesn't harm it.

That's what you know. But not everyone feels that way. To put it simply,
Those moral beliefs? That's all religious beliefs are. Moral and societal beliefs that most people in US and Canada have come from philosophers, from Plato and Socrates to John Locke, it comes down to what society holds to be moral vs. what individuals hold to be moral. Societal laws at this time tell us that abortion is a perfectly moral thing to do. Does that mean it is? It is, to some people, it isn't to others. All that law is doing is forcing morals on people who otherwise wouldn't hold those morals. All laws do this. Some people fell that it's alright to kill. It's not legal, though. Some people feel it's alright to rape people, but it's not legal. Societal laws are morals, albeit common sense-based....but actually, it's not common sense to some people. It's common sense that abortion should be a woman's right to some, it's common sense that abortion should NOT be a woman's right to others.

I understand and agree with you that it's important not to harm others, but....
Many people don't agree, and many more don't even care. They believe that it doesn't matter what happens to these people. These people have no real value, and don't really matter. These people being a vauge, other humans not in a specific group. Sorta like the nazis. Did they believe it was wrong? Most didn't, the others did it out of fear. These people, groups of Jews, handicapped, deformities, they weren't really people and didn't really matter. It was perfectly ethical to kill them.
Is it really? Not to you, not to me. In the grand scheme of things, I believe it's wrong but no one knows for sure. It's just how our cultures are right now. There isn't a worldwide law of human rights, or even other rights. We've created these basedon our beliefs and morals.

I mean, they made Rommel their poster boy and he never joined the Party. Though they did kill him in the end.

I love how everyone compares Bush to Hitler....
Yet Saddam's the one who tortured and killed thousands of his own people and left them in mass graves.....
