"Say what?" Trace asked, reaching out to the plant. "Spark?" The seconds the words left his mouth, a bolt of energy blasted out of his fingertips, blowing the potted plant to smithereens and leaving his hair standing on end. "Um... Oops?"

She smiled. "Nice...try...but...next time, you don't need to blast the whole classroom to pieces..."

"Sorry," Trace said, shrugging. "I don't exactly have the hang of the whole 'control' thing yet," he muttered, scratching his blindfold.

"Well, it all gets better with practice..." She walked over towards the window and opened it.

Keith had watched the sparks with some amusement. Sure, it looked dangerous, but oddly enough, it looked fun. "Neat, you could make, like, a Play-Doh village with little Play-Doh people and pretend to smite them, or something..."

"That sounds like a real 'Wrath of God' type stuff going on in this class," Trace said, chuckling.

Mrs. Strike turned to Keith. "Alright, your turn. Focus on nothing but the plant this time."

"Uh, okay..." Keith stared at the plant and tried to imagine the electricity from the nerves of his fingertips striking out and hitting it.
"Spark!"
A bit of light came out, fizzing a bit and causing static, but that was it. No striking. No hitting. No smiting whatsoever. "Um, ta-da...?"

She knit her eyebrows. "You're not concentrating enough, Keith. try again."

"Sure, concentration, got it." He tried to picture it harder, a lightning strike, thunder, a storm. Nothing seemed to be working, though, as if his brain knew they wouldn't produce the spark. Instead, he thought of his aunt who had frizzy hair as if she habitually stuck forks into power sockets...
He began to feel the pressure in the atmosphere, the changes in temperature between the molecules of the air. Come on...
"Spark!" Keith said again, this time with less enthusiasm and more force. Soon he saw a bolt eject from his fingertip, and the plant withered as if its body was shutting down, turning brown a bit in the pot.

"That felt funny, like tingly across the back of my neck..." Trace said, as he rubbed the back of his neck. "Why didn't it feel like that when I did that?"

"Because, they're isn't the time. Class will be over shortly." She crossed over to her desk. ((Sorry I'm on and off. I've been busy...and I won't be on much at all next week either, though I'll try.....))
