The call of his guard sent a ripple through the old King, like a stone cast into a still pond. From the sound of that voice the ocean before him vanished and was replaced by the dark forest of his mind. Tall trees towered in their ancient growth, stretching gnarled roots to grasp one another. Each tree a pillar of his memories enshrouded in a mist which had grown thicker and thicker over the past decades until he could only glimpse an occasional branch or column of lichen encrusted bark extending skyward beyond what the cataracts allowed him to see.
Aryu. Bringing his gaze over the edge of the ship, he cautiously looked to see if his mind had truly escaped him this time.
As Dorian stood at Apollo's side, another voice called from below. Quiet, calm, and ever patient, the young voice of another Composite asked for Dorian. "You're late."

Aryu looked up to his king. His body was riddled with scars he had earned in life, and except for his slight transparent appearance, he seemed just as he had been in life. Without a word, he bowed deeply, his axe still in hand.
If Dorian's heart had ever beaten, it had come to a stop now. Letting go of the old king, Dorian's hands flew to the rails, already leaning over. Without thinking, he stretched out a hand to the young Composite. "Take me with you."

Khaldun stared at the spectacle before him, as people of all races and eras marched along the sea. His eyes turned to his passengers, and he saw Dorian speaking with a young spectre. 'Take me with you.' So that explained everything. He really had been under the belief that he was helping the young couple, attempting to ensure that neither would be forsaken when one departed this life. But Khaldun felt it would be far worse to be alone knowing what could have been than to wait for Death to claim him so he might rejoin Daemon.
A sweet voice spoke up. "Apollo..." A girl with long red hair and ram's horns stood before the King, as beautiful as his memories would have preserved her. The wisps of her hair billowed in the wind and snow, and one had to strain his eyes to make out her form. Offering a hand, she said, "Your journey has been long, my love. Come rest."

They were all there. His father, his brothers, his friends. His guard with the slender figure always at his side. Aryu and Justice, so they had finally found each other’s love in the after world. Faces he didn’t know but carried a ghost of his own features, perhaps descendants long past? Could they be the long line of his family he had devoted his life to tracking so closely?
"Apollo..."
That whisper soft call on the wind, the voice so familiar. He could never forget her.
"Your journey has been long, my love. Come rest."
Tinuviel. His wife. His love. All at once his age seemed to vanish and a light returned to his eyes as a smile spread across his lips.
“Tinuviel….. How I missed you, Tinuviel! How I loved you for so long after you left. I could never love again after you. How could I? I am still so in love with you. Yes, I want to come rest; oh, I want to rest, Tinuviel. I am so tired.” Reaching his hand for the spirit, his eyes did not see how the bony digits simply passed through the vision. He felt the ghost of her warmth and the silken locks of her hair the wind caught a hold of and tossed around playfully. Tears welled up in the old man’s eyes as the decades of memories so carefully tended and grown came crashing down all around him.
“I want to go with you, Tinuviel. I miss you and our children so much. Please, let me go with you?”
The young man’s ghost unchanged by time as it ever was in life raced to the ship's side just as quickly as Dorian had leaned over the railing and reached his hands upward. As his ghostly face lifted upward it was contorted in pain. “ You're late, Dorian. I waited like you told me to and you were late.” Pale arms still outstretched, it did not matter to the wraith that any contact Dorian had with his form would be like a hand passing through mist. He would still try. “You told me to wait, so I did. You told me they would cure it, make it better.”
As his head turned, the ‘it’ he spoke of became clearly known. No magic could have cured what had been the young Composite’s demise. Flashes of burns and great gaping wounds appeared on the man’s body, so numerous no amount of medicine or magic could sooth the injuries, yet his Composite body had forced Leonid to live on where others would have died. In a moment, it was thought the impression of two hands bruised upon the skin of his neck could be seen.

Pulling aside one of his crew, Khaldun ordered, [[Tell Mr. Tomas to come above immediately. You'll find him in the stateroom. If he refuses, carry or drag him here. It is not often one can visit with the dead.]] As soon as the man dashed below, Khaldun returned his gaze to the scene that unfolded before him.
Tinuviel smiled softly at the old man who had been her King centuries ago. "I have been waiting so long for you. You will follow, will you not?" She backed away from the ship, attempting to lead Apollo to her, knowing he would first have to die before he could complete the journey. It was cruel of her, she knew, but how could she linger another century, knowing how it caused them both to suffer?

Morrigan held her breath as her family slowly stepped from the mists. Her father and mother locked arms, appearing as if they were strolling the snow gardens just as they had when she was younger. Her brothers, too, followed suite. Only Savanna and Gavirel were missing. Had they been spared? Sharing words of love and comfort, the young princess's tears flowed freely.
Daemon hesitantly came, quite certain that the crewman's words were a trick to get him out of the room. His eyes were red and stung even without the help of the wind. As the snow swirled on the deck, Daemon curiously watched as everyone looked over the sides. Was it true? No, surely they were all in on it.
[[See how far my line has fallen, Justice?]] came Aryu's voice from below. [[A bookkeeper as weak as a babe.]]
Daemon, recognizing the voice from his dreams, joined the others at the edge. Squinting down, then looking over at the others as they met with those they had loved and lost, Daemon watched as Dorian seemed all too willing to fall into the water below. The other man’s burns and marks brought words once more spilling into his mind.
You would cast the one you love into the fires only to see how brightly he would burn, never once thinking about the consequences after he’s gone! So it had been more than a pretty analogy.

Blindly following her to the ship’s railing, there was no questioning that the old man was going to follow his Queen to the ship’s edge and onward. “So long, Tinuviel…..so long…I am nothing of what I once was now that you are gone.” Closer he stepped, with each foot before the other the movement became easier. He felt lighter, the weight of his age melting away as his eyes never left that heavenly face before him. The tears flowed freely down his withered cheeks as his leathery hands found the railing before him. The sound of children’s laughter and a long lost lullaby filled his ears as he found himself humming the tune he had heard so many times with his children. The notes had haunted him his entire life after she had left, and he would awaken with the tune so clear in his mind only to lose the notes before he could grasp what they had been. It was the song she had sung for him. His nightingale’s song. His joints screaming in their old age, the King began to pull himself over the railing.
The woman at the former guard’s side shook her head at the spirit’s words. “ No, Aryu, he is quite strong. He just needs time to discover it.” Though not born of her blood, there was no hiding the motherly smile the spirit bore as she watched Daemon above.
Dorian would not see Lian at Leonid’s side, a strange fact that made one wonder if she still resided in the Abbey’s strange time void if Dorian even remembered the child at all. Turning from Dorian, the spirit of Leonid looked back to the sea.
“You cannot follow me here, Dorian. I have to say goodbye.”

Khaldun was frozen in place, captivated by the drama unfolding before him. His only movement was to raise a hand to signal any attempting to prevent Apollo's ascent to stop. The man had suffered alone for long enough. He deserved his peace at last. Khaldun smiled wistfully at his ancestor, knowing that the man would only be a shell if they tried to tear him away. He was finally happy, and for a moment, he seemed to carry himself as the King he had once been.
As for Dorian, Khaldun could not help but feel pity for the man forbidden from ever entering the realm of the spirits. With such a fate, he could not judge him quite so harshly. Severed from all connection with Daemon for eternity, he was sure he would be bitter, as well.
The ghost of Tinuviel lingered above the sea, waiting for the moment when she could once more embrace her King. Her lips remained in a smile, and her eyes never once moved from him.

Victoria ran to Apollo's side, ignoring Khaldun and anyone else who said otherwise. Grabbing his arm, she sought to pull the old man back. "No, you'll be lost in the sea! Please stay! It's bad and wet there!" Glaring down at the ghostly Tinuviel, she shouted, "You keep your ghosty hands offa him until he's good and ready to join you!"
Aryu shook his head at the display. He was Apollo's guardian still, but felt no threat from the little one. Looking up at Daemon, the old soldier smiled. "One day maybe, but no time soon. He has a lot of growing still."
Daemon looked down at the man who seemed so different than himself and yet shared the same blood. "Why are you here?"
"To remind you of our purpose."
"Which is?"
"What else? Protect the king."
"I don't know how."
"You'll learn." Aryu chuckled, his weight gained from the stay at the abbey still visible. "Remember, the simplest answers are always best."
"That's no kind of help!"
"That's all you'll get from me."
"NO! DON'T LEAVE!" Dorian was beyond frantic. Screaming so loud his voice began to crack under the strain, he scrambled to lean farther down. "TAKE ME WITH YOU! TAKE ME! PLEASE DON'T LEAVE ME AGAIN! PLEASE!" Tears rolled down his cheeks freely as he stretched out his hand farther.

Khaldun approached Apollo, prying Victoria from his arm with ease. He then slung her over his back as though she were a sack of potatoes. Though she protested, he merely shushed her, requesting that the end of the King Xephira be watched with a certain amount of gravity. Reaching the spot he had been standing in, he pulled the girl down and held her in place tightly so she would not hinder anything else. Dorian's cries drowning out even the wind, Khaldun stole a sorrowful glance at Daemon, then returned his eyes to the King.

In silence, the King stood tall. Saluting his guard below in an almost playful manner, his gaze returned to his Queen. Without another word, the King fell to the waves below. Hardly a ripple formed when the slight form broke the water's surface.
Only moments later King Apollo Li Xephira was at his Queen's side and with his friends and family once more. The bundle of bones and skin which had been his spirit's prison was lost to the waves, at last setting him free. As if it was just another day in that age when they had all been together, the King smiled as he could at last take his Queen's hand into his own again.
Only Leonid was left alone. Remaining at the ship's side even as others began to move on, the tormented soul continued to watch Dorian above.
"You have to find your soul, Dorian. I know it is there. Please find it. I am so tired of waiting for you. I don't want to be alone without you any longer."

"Where? Where is it? I'll find it! I swear! Just tell me where it is and I'll get it! Wait on me! Oh gods, wait on me." Speaking in a rapid pace, Dorian was oblivious to those around him.
Daemon watched Apollo dissapear, his eyes wide with disbelief. Spinning quickly, he ran to Khaldun's side. "I'm sorry."
"Put me down!" Victoria fussed, kicking her legs as she tried to worm down.

Knowing there was nothing Victoria could do to bring the King back, Khaldun relinquished his grip on her, taking instead Daemon's hand and kissing his forehead. He said nothing. He did not want his clumsy words to ruin the passing of the great King. Turning his eyes from the boy to the sea, he watched as the procession faded into the distance.
The moment Apollo's soul reached her, Tinuviel threw her arms about him. Were she capable of real tears, they would flow freely. "I have missed you, Apollo," she whispered into his shoulder before standing proudly at his side to enter the other realm with him. Before disappearing completely, she cast one look back at the ship and its captain and smiled.

The procession was beginning to reach its end. Already there were none around that Leonid recognized and he had begun to grow restless. His gaze kept returning to the direction the others had left in.
"It is in Ty'Mish, Dorian...the place where we were made into these things that we now are. I was able to keep mine, but yours was taken out. If you can get to Ty'Mish, you can find it, and I won't have to be alone anymore. I'll stay with you as long as I can."

Victoria watched Apollo leave with a sadness in her heart. Things would never be the same now. They've ruined it all. Morrigan, with tears in her eyes, led Victoria downstairs. Tonight she knew that all on board would sleep like children.
It felt to Daemon as though someone should say something for the King's passing. This was the last of an era; he was the final remaining part of a great legacy he started. But as Khaldun said nothing, he too remained silent.
Dorian once more reached for Leonid. "Stay with me, Leonid. I need you." He was beginning to wear down, the sudden surge of emotion taking its toll.
