Matta nodded a bit, and went back to laying his head on his arms on the bench. Some daemon he was... a little bloodloss and he felt weak and dizzy himself. But the thoughts turned over in his mind and refused to let him even contemplate sleep.

"Will you be alright going back?"

She only had to think about her response momentarily.
"I'll be just fine." She said, keeping a reassuring tone though she reasoned that Matta had probably realised her capabilities by now.
"Thats assuming that I even get out of here." Setara chuckled, trying to lighten the sitaution a little for both their sakes. As a nomad, Setara knew that they would most likely keep her longer than they had to...or prehaps even indefinately if they felt like it. She only hoped that there was some diplomatic creature that would see behind her blood ties & look at her for her character. Wishful thinking.

"Mm" Was all Matta said in return. He doubted that being seen with a murderer in any society was not a good thing. He was certain she would not be as 'just fine' as she said. But he had no grounds on which to argue this point, and the dizziness really wasn't helping him concentrate either.

He looked over Setara's bandages noting that not much blood had soaked through. That was good. It meant that her wounds weren't persisting too much. He shifted a little to look at his own leg. The makeshift bandage was completely soaked through. At least the persisting dizziness was explained, but he surmised that the wound was still not at a dangerous level. He was glad the bench and the darkness were probably keeping his leg out of Setara's view. She had enough to worry about.

He chucked a bit, despite himself. They were certainly worse for wear today.

Setara rested her eyes, letting herself relax into a state where she could possibly try to forget things for a few minutes & remain blank. Setara let out a soft sigh & realised that prehaps there was just too much going around in her head to even contemplate relaxing. Matta's quietness worried her slightly & she decided to make sure he was alright in as good a sense of the word as could be had at this time.
"Matta?" She enquired.
"Are you alright?"

somewhere in the long moments of silence, he'd drifted into a half-conscious state. He heard his name in a haze, and then when he registered the voice, he drowsily lifted his head. He looked at Setara for a moment through blurred half-awake vision.

"...I'm alright ...just tired." He put his head back down, trying to make the world feel steady beneath him. Since when did his body feel so heavy? He felt more like a bag of sand than a being of bone and muscle.

Oh good, He thought, amused bythe irony, maybe I'll be too incapacitated to do anything dangerous tonight.

Setara decided to pester him no further & leave him be. The poor young man would most likely need rest after the days misfortunes & Setara herself needed to sleep at least a little, though she was not sure how much of a good idea falling asleep would be in her current state. She kept one eye on Matta, more for his own welfare than hers. After all he had done for her regardless of who she was, he deserved at least to have someone keeping a careful eye on him. She knew he was injured also, but had no idea as to the extent of the damage that had been done. She reasoned though that even had she been in the state to help him, she would not have been much use given her medical knowhow being limited to simple herbal draughts & poltices. She sat quietly, feeling cold draw in through the walls & assumed that dusk was coming to a close.

The moments of silence again lulled him into a state of half-sleep. He was physically very tired, but couldn't seem to make his mind shut down. He started feeling aches from the various blows he'd received. He let out a bit of a sigh. His mind was fully awake now, even though his body felt like a sand bag. He opened his eyes again and looked up at Setara to see how she was doing. His eyes were faintly glowing indicating that it was now night time.

It was obvious that Setara was indeed awake from her posture, which was unrelaxed & her breathing, which seemed too controlled for someone that was slumbering. The nomad was obviously just trying to keep herself calm & collected, making sure that shock & stress wouldn't play their nasty little mind games with her. Her expression would also suggest that she was tconcentrating on something rather than sleeping.
Setara couldn't budge herself even if she had wanted to. She ached all over & decided that she had lead weights for arms rather than anything else. About the only thing that wasnt ready to drop off to sleep was her mind & the thoughts racing about inside of it. She was mainly contemplating about what would happen once she returned home to face her punishment. Death didnt scare her all that much in all honesty. It was the deaths of those she loved that scared Setara witless

Matta stared at Setara in silence. Again she was petrified. he held in a little sigh. There really wasn't much he could do to comfort her even though he was only a short distance away from her. He really barely knew the girl, but he felt responsible. Her family was in danger and she would probably be exiled because he had no control of himself.

His body felt like a lead weight, but something in him compelled him to move. His mind was in an unfocused state, but he had this urge to somehow snap Setara out of her current mind state.

Before he really had any idea he was moving he was on his feet.. or mostly so. He had one foot on the ground and the other was on the bench that Setara sat supporting the other half of his weight. Each hand was placed on the wall; one on each side of Setara. His glowing red eyes looked directly on Setara with more focus than his mind was in. the half-conscious side of his mind weakly told him to stop, but the side he couldn't control was in charge. He locked for a moment in this position, then leaned down to press his mouth against Setara's.

Setara was only aware of what was going on seconds afore it happened, alerted by the feeling of something close to her face...too close. She sat still in shock & did not attempt to resist only momentarily afore turning her head away from him quickly. Setara was unable to back away from him as her back was already at the wall & rolling from the bench was out of the question as Matta was far too close. Nor could she find the strength in her arms to push him away or her limbs to escape from being cornered. She was at a loss & part of her wanted to cringe in fear at being touched so. The other half of her however wanted to lash out at him for taking advantage of her weakened state. She responded to his 'embrace' with one scentence that was partly tainted by forcefullness & partly by fear.
"I would perfer if you did not." Was all she could say. Setara reasoned that there was most likely no point in trying to stop this side of Matta from doing as he pleased. Thoughts of her family crossed her mind as she closed her eyes. Would he toy with her before killing her? Would it hurt? She wondered if she would ever get out of this dank cell alive & intact to make sure that her family, the only thing she had, was safe & unharmed.

A primal growl sounded in his throat after she turned her head away. the anger of rejection roze in the part of him he didn't control. But only the woozy feeling of self loathing registered to the part of himself that he did control.

Matta's eyes were glowing an angry red, but the glowing faded up and down in intensity while his own vision fading in and out of complete black. His eyes rolled downwards at his leg. The entire makeshift bandage had been soaked through to the point of dripping.

Another growl released in his throat, but ended off weakly as he slumped forward onto Setara. Even his daemon strength couldn't sustain consciousness at his present amount of bloodloss.

Setara couldnt move him from her & wasn't about to try given that she was not aware of his state of mind. She could tell he was unconscious, but was wary should he wake & continue his threatening form following her refusal to allow him the advantage over her. Setara noticed his leg, its makeshift bandages soaked through with blood & most likely the cause of his faint. She felt awful for him & stroked the back of Matta's head in a meek gesture of kindness, though he would most likely not be able to appreciate it.
She looked down at his leg again & tried to urge her deadened limbs into moving. mustering the last reserves of energy in her beaten & pathetic form, she managed to pull herself from under Matta & slip onto the cold hard floor of the cell. She tore a few tatty strips from the front of her train using her unharmed hand & her teeth, using the soft hide strips to re-bind Matta's wounds. It might prove to be her downfall, but sh owed him that much. Setara shuffled up to the back wall & allowed herself to rest her eyes, though she would not be able to sleep for.

((I'm at a big loss tonight. I think all the working melted my brain. Feel free to fast forward time if you so choose.))

Matta didn't even stir when she freed herself from his dead weight much less while she rebound his wounds. At least his breathing remained steady, even if his body did seem cold. A wound like that wouldn't be enough to kill him, but it certainly had done its work incapaciating him.
PostPosted: Sun Sep 04, 2005 1:39 am

Setara noted that he was not stirring & thanked her ancsetors for it, even if part of her was worried about him collapsing in such a manner. It meant that she was out of danger for now & in with a chance at atonement. Of course, that atonement would mean that she would never see Matta again, but that wasnt what troubled her. What troubled her was the thought that she might be too late. She would have to get back to her family as soon as possible & resist the temptation to dawdle in company that was warmer & more appreciative than that found at home within the tribe. Setara let out a long drawn sigh & leant her cheek against the cold stone wall. She felt like a fool for ever bringing Matta back to the camp with her & yet would have regretted every second of her life if she had not. She mused & mulled over her inner struggles until her mind could at last take no more.
Setara fell into a deep but nightmare plagued slumber.

********

Setara awoke with a start just before dawn & sat bolt upright. She had collapsed onto the cold stone floor. She could hear voices on the upper levels floating down the stairway & activity above. She hoped fevernently that they would be released soon, as she was eager to fly from the city to her family. Part of her though was not so eager to fly from Matta, but she ignored it & tried to stamp it out. Setara used the wall to pull herself to her feet & feeling a little strength in her legs, she limped over to Matta & sat by the side of the bench. There seemed no sense in waking him until the guards arrived & upon checking him over, he appeared to be sleeping deeply & nothing more.

Matta didn't even stir as the noises of morning began to clamour. He only dully crept into a half awake state when Setara moved nearer to him. But there was no snese of threat and he couldn't seem to get his bodyto be anymore than a sack of sand. He felt a dull throbing in his leg, and a muffled pounding in his head.

Finally, the stiffness in his body demanded he move. He let out a bit of a groan and made slow work of trying to sit up. It felt as though every muscle were against the thought of movement. After laboring to sit up, he leaned back against the nearest wall.

It took him a couple moments to remember where he was.. and then who was still with him. He felt his blood run cold, and he simply stared at the floor in front of him wishing that he could simply go back to sleep until Setara had been set free
