maggie_mae they usually use about a 14-gauge, which is the typical size for like, a belly button ring or eyebrow piercing. ... You are kidding... Right?

Koukon_Tenshi SugarBeat_Angel Koukon_Tenshi SugarBeat_Angel What gage needles do they use when taking blood donations? *Major twitch* *twitch* *twitch**twitches with her* I'm so afraid... But at the chance that I could save the life of a small child or a baby... I'll do it... Hopefully I pass out... I think they use the "butterfly needles", the same one's they use in doctors offices... You have guts... I'd never do it... I'll donate $50 to some kid charity thing before I willingly give blood... butterflies are great. once the teeny lil cathetar is in inserted the needle comes right out. it's a lot less painful. just close your eyes, turn your head, and keep breathing. 3nodding

Right? well, if they used anything larger it would make too large a puncture in the vein. they *might* use a 12-gauge, but that'd be the largest. if they used anything smaller the donation would take WAY too long. the smaller the needle width, the smaller the hole through the center. so 14 is usually the happy medium. blaugh
