At least someone gave a welcome already but it doesn't hurt to have a crew member give welcome also, right?

Welcome Slayer and have a great time at the guild. 3nodding

I walk across the pages of history...
Allo, friends, and boy do I feel out of place! I'm very new to the series, having only recently been exposed to it by my local game shop owner. Nonetheless, I'll give this a valiant effort! User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.

Name: My friends call me Hammy
Age: 20s
Area: Earth's surface.
Fav CV game: Ah yes. Aria of Sorrow, definitely.
Fav CV character: Soma Cruz
Fav CV boss: So far, the manticore.
Fav CV enemy: Rippers. (like tiny elfen Jack the Ripper's, but they're high on speed.)
Fav CV Weapon: Any spear. *poke poke poke poke POKE poke*
Fav CV music track: Opening music (which I believe must be the Castlevania theme, since it also opens in Circle of the Moon).
What I like most about CV: Honestly, the absolutely frantic and fun hardcore gameplay. I love the Metroid games for the GBA (for those that haven't tried them, you really should) and CV reminds me so much of that - the same nailbiting, reload four times for a boss kind of gameplay. Also, vampire hunting just makes it that much more awesome User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.

Errr, I'm almost afraid to mention it, but I'm also addicted to collecting souls. They're like Pokemon, only useful. sweatdrop

Welcome Hammy!
Nice to see we have a newbie so eager to learn more about the immortal saga of CV. I gotta ask, don't you think the story of Aria is a bit weird? I gotta applaud Konami for trying to do something different with the saga but after the sorrow games the whole story took a turn for the weird. sweatdrop
I consider myself to be a CV veteran and if I'm not mistaken the saga doesn't really have a theme. Almost all the games have a different intro so 2 games having the same intro is no reason for assumptions, he-he.
BTW, feel free to read as many threads as you want. You may want to post a new question at the question of the week thread as long as it's not about gameplay help or alike. I would really like to know why you like spears so much and if you have a favorite. It'd be great to know what you'd want to see in a new CV game; we have a thread just for that here. So just browse and don't mind the emptiness. I can't be here every day but I try to hang out at least once or twice a week (either with this account, or with my main one). 3nodding

Now that I'm well into it, yes, the story is bizarre yet strangely appealing (soon to finish it! glee!) I'll be starting back on CotM in a day or two when I finish AoS, and I suspect my tastes will change - looks like CotM is more traditional and even more fun.

And yes, I shall be browsing! Normally I am much more active, but I am easily distracted and I'm down at my folks' house for Thanksgiving week, heh. User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.

That's great Hammy! I didn't really like SotM much to be honest but I'm glad you are liking it. BTW, are you planning on buying Dawn of Sorrow? It's a bit cooler than Aria in case you are wondering.

See ya around the guild! This is my main account BTW, I gave Kenshin the afternoon off, he-he.

Finished Aria of Sorrow, don't want to spoil it for anyone, but thought it ended up having a pretty awesome story! Final boss fight fails tho stare

Ah well, now on to CotM!!! 4laugh

Gee, that's too bad. I hope you can get a DS Lite or something so you can play DoS along with AoS someday. Did you know you get bonus stuff on Dawn for just having Aria stuffed in slot 2 of a DS? Yeap! I enjoyed having started my game with a rare ring. It's not the same as having 99 luck on SotN but it's pretty cool anyway. And that's just one of the items cuz I think you also get at least one healing item, yeah.
Best of luck on CotM!

Oh wow, you enjoyed Dawn more than Aria hypno? I pretty much thought Dawn wasn't really needed at all since it did nothing for the story and kind of rehashed Aria's plot. The art was pretty terrible too. Yeah, the game wasn't too bad or anything, and the Julius mode in it was definitely great, but I just thought Aria was done a lot better. I guess it had to do with the presentation and atmosphere of the game, plus it came off a lot more serious. it's just my personal opinion though! Anyways, I think I'm going off topic.

Welcome! It's always great to have new people to the series. I guess I could consider myself a CV veteran as well, since I've been playing the games since the late 90's. You should definitely check out the classicvania games which is anything that came before Symphony Of The Night. They are great fun. And if you really like the metroidvania type style then you should give Symphony Of The Night a try.

Yeap! I sure did and you wanna know why? Because of the following reasons:

1. Aside from the silliness of the story (a former neighbor of mine hated it and thought it was pretty stupid to set CV in the future) I liked the fact that you can do more things in Dawn than in Aria. My most favorite was using the souls to make weapons.
2. Almost every soul had a cool upgrade depending on how many of each you had copies of. For example, it wasn't the same to have just one of the maid's soul than have it maxed out, not only the effect looked different, I think you recovered more HP when you used it too.
3. The fact you could use the touch screen for certain things was one of the things I enjoyed most. Not only you had the seals for finishing up bosses (the game felt more interactive) but you could also destroy blocks and even tell your familiars which point of the screen to attack.
4. Julius mode was so much better in Dawn than in Aria. I hated it in Aria mostly cuz the ending sucked big time. At least in Dawn you had more characters to play as and a much cooler ending (but not by a lot).
5. The two screens allowed for seeing either the map or an enemy info screen without having to switch back and forth to either a menu screen or a map screen like in Aria.

Don't get me wrong, Aria was great and I still own the cartridge but Konami took that game and improved it. I'm not talking about the story cuz it was just a pretext to come up with another game that followed Aria but, so what? It ended up being a really good game. Who's with me?

I hope our new member can come back often. I suppose it might be a bit intimidating to be amongst CV veterans (I've been playing since 1987/8 cool but that shouldn't be a problem cuz we all get along just fine. 3nodding

Either way, I hope you have a good time here. The guild might not be very active anymore but you're welcome to browse around anyway. I'll try and come as soon as possible but I'm rather busy with real life & work. 3nodding
