Oh, if anyone is interested in why I despised the marines so much I have the rather sarcastic "goodbye letter" that I wrote to the marine corps up in my journal, here's a link for the entry. Sad thing is that the things in my goodbye letter don't include some of the most rotten things that happened. Still, it was very theraputic to write it down. The memories I wrote about are sort of on "lock-down" and the letter that I wrote is my key to remembering them. That is soo cool. I've only been overseas once, on a trip to Germany. My husband and I are planning on taking a vacation in europe eventually, when our kids are old enough to remember. He got to live in germany, england, and I think holland and somewhere else when he was younger.

Although Newfoundland is somewhat overseas, it's certainly not anywhere near Europe. blaugh
Newfoundland is the large island to the right of Canada - it's also the most Easternly point in North America.
On the note about Europe: I've been wanting to go there for years. ^^
I decided about a month ago that I'm soon going to begin saving (and buy an airmiles card), and save for a trip to Europe - possibly even live there for awhile. surprised

haha, I guess I was thinking of finland or something. So I guess where you live really IS like where I grew up. I can sypathize. I went back to visit my dad and my grammy in Augusta Maine (yeah, now I live in Augusta Georgia... ironic) after living in Phoenix, AZ and Monterey CA and places like that and it was weird. And Augusta Maine is actually one of the cities in that state. I forgot my favorite shampoo and none of the salons up there even knew what it was. We had to go to Walmart of all places just to find it. I felt like such a city girl. I love maine but I think I'd have to live in like portland or something if I were to live there now.

Personally, I don't think I could ever live in a large city without becoming incredibly depressed. sweatdrop
Growing up in Newfoundland, I've become so accustomed to living by the ocean, always having fresh/clean air, and seeing nature everywhere.
If I were to live in a city, all that would be taken away from me. >.<
If I could live anywhere I wanted, I would select a small town outside of a city. That way I could still have the conveniences of better shopping. neutral

Yeah, I love the ocean too. When we lived in Warren we went to the ocean sometimes since it was so close. I thought the ocean in Monterey California was REALLY nice. They have a paved biker/jogging trail that follows the coast for at least a couple of miles and it's a really pedestrian town. Most of the industry there comes from tourism. I think it was one of my favorite places. For the atmosphere of the town and the scenery. And there were lots of places to go camping and hiking outside of town. All you had to do was drive a couple miles and there were all these huge hills and beautiful coastlines. Of course, it costs a crapton to live there. I only got to live there because that's where the military language school is.

Reminds me of Newfoundland - except more expensive. surprised
All I have to do is look out the window, and I'll see the ocean and hills.
Actually, where my cabin is, the sun rises over mountains and sets over the ocean. It's so beautiful.
Plus there are literally hundreds of hiking trails across the province.
