yeah I've just recently started getting into them
my dad loves them so that's how I got introduced
my favourite album of theirs is probably 'Wish You Were Here' because I loooove 'Shine On You Crazy Diamond' and I've had the song 'Wish You Were Here' in my brain solidly for like the past week (which is quite something for me cause normally I am thinking about a different song every minute of the day)

Who here listens to Pink Floyd? They are one of or mabye the greatest bands ever, no question. I could never find a flaw with them, and I envy any person who has attended a Pink Floyd concert (ie my father) since they must, I mean must have been fantasticly wonderful.

So do you listen to Pink Floyd?
If not, why not you crazy person you?

I couldn't ever pick a favorite album, though, and my favorite Floyd song keeps changing. Currently it's "Run Like Hell", but "Wish You Were Here", "Learn to Fly", and "Goodbye Blue Sky" have all been challenging that position lately.

OK. This is driving me craaaaaazy. It's "Learning to Fly." Not Learn to Fly. Heh... Ok. I'm better now.

"Shine On You Crazy Diamond," and "Sheep." Awesome band. 3nodding

Yikes those are pretty long songs.

I dont know, i think that Atom Heart Mother (the song) might be their longest, its about... 23 minutes, or perhaps Echoes
I guess if you add both pieces of Shine on You Crazy Diamond, its in the 20-25 minute zone too.

Yeah... they may be long, but I must say I do love them, long or no.

Oh the length doesnt affect the amazingness of the song at all. xd

Yeesh. -nod nod- In fact most of my favorite Floyd songs ARE some of their longest. Like Dogs. And Careful With that Axe, Eugene. And Echoes. And I'm not going to say anymore because three is enough. Yaaay.
The longer the song, the better. At least in the case of Pink Floyd.

I don't even know how to describe how much I love their music...it's just...it's like...a Demi-God came down from the sky and said "I am at your service, master!"!!!

Just in case you didn't know, that whole album was written for Syd Barret (the original bassist) who got too fried on acid and on the live tv shows would just sit there and stare at the camera. He's now (last I heard) in a mental asylum, still fried. I really like that one, but I think Meddle is their best album next to "The Wall"

Dear me, have you got it so wrong... stare
Wish You Were Here was indeed dedicated to Syd Barrett (not Barret). Syd was NOT the original bassist, but was the founding member of the Floyd, writer, lead singer, and lead guitarist until his breakdown which eventually lead to his departure from the band after their second album A Saucerful of Secrets in 1968.
LSD was not the only cause of Syd's breakdown - he already suffered from a weak mental state but drugs for breakfast, lunch, and dinner certainly helped trigger his fragile self to the next level of madness.
Syd is definitely not in a mental asylum. He lives in Cambridge, quite happy and in good health. He's no longer "fried' (if indeed he ever was). The only sicknesses that he must deal with nowadays is diabetes and his slowly failing eyesight.

Not ALL about him. Rog says so himself that the song was written about a number of things, "perhaps Syd more than anything."
Shine On You Crazy Diamond Pt. One and Two were written entirely about Syd.
