When you actually live in Colorado and visit Colorado springs as much as possible and sneak around looking for the Cheyenne Mountain Complex, to find the SGC, then rave about trying to find General Hammond and join the SGC....

That base actually exists. They used parts of the real base for the original movie. My grandfather also used to work there.
Odd, knowing that, plus the fact he wasn't allowed to talk about it, plus the fact that the gov. started keeping a close eye on the show for a long time (especially in reguards to the Asgard) and almost shut it down.
Kinda makes me wonder sometimes...
Sadly, I can' remember which commentary it's in, probably one with Gary Jones, but there is a Stargate Command at Cheyenne Mountain =D
The Airforce got such a kick out of Stargate that they titled a broom closet "Stargate Command"!
