*Sigh* No. I got a jobllast week. (Which is where I met said priestess) And when people work you get to talking to other co-workers. Well I noticed several articles of jewelry that have ties to the wiccan community and hence I asked this lovely question about inniciation. Where she agreed with me. Now. One more thing before I actually get mad and lose my temper. Before you start calling me a lier get all the information. As for the spelling WHO GIVES A FLYING F***?!?!
PostPosted: Sun May 13, 2007 2:00 pm

Spelling is actually quite important since it usually gives people that are not aware of your actual intelligence a measure of your supposed intelligence. And so far since I am an English grammar and spelling fanatic type person, my opinion is very low. Now as I have asked before have you seen actual documented and not just by word of mouth proof that this person is an actual Preistess. If she is indeed such, which I doubt very much, then she is lying through her teeth. If she is just a practioner then she has no knowledge of this on her own. I suggest you listen Shi-san, she is one of the most informed people I know on this subject. Most likely, she is the most informed person you will meet on this subject until you get serious about this.

When you become serious and stop basically insulting the religion with your stupidity then you will see your past mistakes and can fix them and teach others not to make them. And the ones that do have knowledge on this subject do have a right to tell beginners whats going on because they KNOW what's going on.

Very well you want us to have all the information before we come to conclusions, fine, give us the information we require to judge.

Oh and what typing skills are you trying to improve on, 'cause I don't see any.

OH MY GOD kiddies. You actually know big words. *Dies of shock* As for my "low" intelligance? You have no room to talk since reading all your posts almost all of them have grammatical errors. Like post above. You said in instead of is. Simple error. So before you start coming on to me because I don't give a damn about how one spells initiated correctly correct yourself.

Do pardon my error since if I do see one when I reread my posts I edit my posts to fix them. But unlike you it seems I just don't ignore proper spelling or grammar just because I don't feel like thinking for a moment. If there is something wrong and someone points it out to me then I will fix the previous post and I will try not to make that mistake again, instead of just ignoring it.

The same actually goes along with the knowledge that you are BSing about. So shut up, learn from your mistakes and fix them before you put someone else in the wrong frame of mind and thoughts.

BSing? Your so funny. Its enough to crack me up. Insulting people only makes you seem that much more infuriour and childish. You might want to I don't know. Grow up a little or not. Its all good to me.
I always learn from my mistakes. When I make them. Since I have never once made a mistake I don't have anything to learn from.

Alright, at this point both sides are spending more time insulting each other than getting anywhere. I suggest we all grow up a bit, you are yelling at the avatars of people you may never meet in the real world... Though I understand arguing with people who refuse to listen to you is infuriating as all get out.

Shimegas_Rage is one of the most informed people around here on most forms of Paganism, and indeed religion in general. So, yes, one would probably benefit from reading any of her suggested sources.

Havana: Seeing as we have mentioned websites and books for our sources, why don't you know list your sources so we can have a look at them?
If (and this is a big IF in my opinon, as I do think you're in the wrong) you were right, you could be doing the rest of us a huge favour by enlightening us to our errors. If you don't list sources, we can just assume you're making everything up, this is the internet after all...

In no way in this world and the next can anyone in this guild or anywhere else for that matter can any of you tell me other wise.
ah, i see where you're coming from now.

you're a hypocrite. you ask those of us arguing against your point to be more open to other ideas yet you yourself are incapable of admitting when you might be wrong.

Irish, no thanks for wasting my time. i thought i could have a civilized debate with you, where evidence was offered on both sides. i hope one day you are willing to enter a debate and know you might be proven wrong and accept that.
PostPosted: Mon Jun 04, 2007 9:47 pm

Forgive me for not keeping up with appearances. But since I work second shift and when I finally get home I am to tired to keep on proving my point.
As for hypocriacy (Don't bother correcting me) no one has even come close to proving me wrong. I read up on Gardner. He himself swears he was inciated (Don't bother) which is where he was taught wicca. Since you all love him so much, you should realize that he was taught from others who were also taught. There for by his own admission he didn't create wicca

While I don't have time to look this up and cite a source and so on, to the best of my knowledge no one has been able to come up with proof that the person who is supposed to have initiated Gardner to Wicca (or that coven I think) actually existed. Followed closely by Gardner himself admits to adding a lot of things, and cleaning up some other aspects of what he was taught..
If I get a chance I'll look it up properly, just to check
PostPosted: Tue Jun 12, 2007 6:16 pm

There is also no proof stating otherwise. So until Gardner himself comes back from the dead to admit he lied about being innicated (Don't care) which would in itself make him a hyprocrite. Since he himself can not call himself wiccan since he wasn't innicated (Going by all of your points) so saying no one is truely wiccan so your arguements goes into the dog pile so saying. If one practices wicca/pagan/witchcraft and they feel like calling themselves wiccan then they have every right to do so

It can still be argued that regardless of Gardner's hypocrisy (or lack thereof) that he is the one to lay down the rules and that Wicca should follow in his legacy. The entire thing boils down to the good 'ol traditionalist vs. progressivist debate which has been going on in religions worldwide since there even WERE religions. Each side has valid points, and as far as I'm concerned, they're both correct. It's a matter of what fits more for your style. There will always be those who embrace the role of pereservers... the traditionalists who keep more to the original form of something. And there will always be people who wish to change some things to evolve and adapt the practice to either appeal to larger audiences or fit the new era.

What is most important is to see that there's a difference between these two schools of thought... these two types of Wicca. I suspect that Wicca is going to be defined more by the progressivist side (as it already is) at least in America, though, due to the proliferation of books. I hope that the traditionalists do keep preserving what it originally was though; that might become important if the more progressive movement gets a bit out of control.

IrishHavanaWhitewolf
There is also no proof stating otherwise.
except for the fact that the very woman he claims initiated him was a respected individual in the Christian community and didn't engage in any of the activities that Gardner presents as Wiccan.

again, read the sources i actually sited Irish.

IrishHavanaWhitewolf
Since he himself can not call himself wiccan since he wasn't innicated
you seem to neglect two ideas.

1. the creator of a religion creates the religion. therefore they create the rules for said religion.

2. one can be initiated by the Lord and Lady of the Isles/Wicca.

IrishHavanaWhitewolf
so saying no one is truely wiccan so your arguements goes into the dog pile so saying.
you really don't read any of the arguments presented against you, do you? or is it just my posts that you don't read?

one must be initiated into Wicca in order to be classified as a follower. there are two methods of being initiated. one is by a Wiccan. the other is by the Lord and Lady of Wicca.

IrishHavanaWhitewolf
If one practices wicca/pagan/witchcraft and they feel like calling themselves wiccan then they have every right to do so
Wicca is an orthopraxic religion (emphasis on practice not belief) and the only way to find out about how to practice as a Wiccan does is to be initiated (because it is a mystery religion).

and would it kill you to stop using Wicca, Pagan and witchcraft interchangeably? they aren't the same!

Actually. After much thought and learning many things. I have actually found that they are all one and the same. Witchcraft was the original name, later refered to as pagan then Gardner himself started up a pop following by his books calling it wicca. They are all the same thing with the same ideals and rules behind it. All deal with the same ritual magic, teachings, and same days of practice (I.E. Beltane, Samhein, ETC ETC)

Calling oneself wiccan is almost the same as calling oneself christian. To call yourself christian all you have to do is believe in God and his teachings. To call oneself wiccan all you have to do is follow and believe in said teachings. Wicca isn't a mysterious religion.

The funny thing about religion is the rules change over time nothing in it stays the same. Take christianity for example. When Christiandom first came about witchcraft was acceptable and both preachers and Druids would study both religions together in harmony. As fanatics came about the rules changed. Now according to the word of god witchcraft is evil. Though I still believe Gardner didn't come up with wicca its perfectly fine for you to think it.

IrishHavanaWhitewolf
Actually. After much thought and learning many things. I have actually found that they are all one and the same.
no. they aren't. you need to read and study more.

not all pagans are witches or Wiccans. not all witches are Wiccans.

i am a pagan. i am a part of Ár nDraíocht Féin, which is a neopagan organization. we are not witches.

IrishHavanaWhitewolf
Witchcraft was the original name,
proof please.

IrishHavanaWhitewolf
later refered to as pagan
proof please.

IrishHavanaWhitewolf
then Gardner himself started up a pop following by his books calling it wicca.
proof that he was referring to all of pagan religions and not just his sect.

you are making a lot of extraordinary claims. care to offer any bit of extraordinary proof?

IrishHavanaWhitewolf
They are all the same thing with the same ideals and rules behind it.
bullshit.

IrishHavanaWhitewolf
All deal with the same ritual magic, teachings, and same days of practice (I.E. Beltane, Samhein, ETC ETC)
how do you explain the Hellenic recons? and the Asatru?

IrishHavanaWhitewolf
Calling oneself wiccan is almost the same as calling oneself christian. To call yourself christian all you have to do is believe in God and his teachings. To call oneself wiccan all you have to do is follow and believe in said teachings. Wicca isn't a mysterious religion.
it is an orthopraxic, mystery, fertility based religion. it is not orthodoxic.

IrishHavanaWhitewolf
The funny thing about religion is the rules change over time nothing in it stays the same. Take christianity for example. When Christiandom first came about witchcraft was acceptable and both preachers and Druids would study both religions together in harmony.
provide proof.

IrishHavanaWhitewolf
Now according to the word of god witchcraft is evil.
check your translation. it's actually poisoners who are considered "evil".

Bealtaine, Samhain and Lughnasa are all Celtic festivals, and the names of the months of May, November and August respectively.... no proof of the age of Wicca in favour of any argument
