"Wait. Quiet." Kuplan sat motionless along with the rest of crew, the waves impacting against the ships walls the only thing breaking the tense still. Then, a call sounded at that very moment, the foriegn scream almost deafening. Suddenly Kuplan turned white and screamed, "Everybody in the boat!" He grabbed Fren and pushed her up the latter, going up after her regardless of what he just asked him. He looked back to see a large spider like animal jump from the water and tackle a man and submerging just as quickly, the man's crys for help consistant until the water drowned them out.

She scurried up backward, pale underneath tan freckles. The woman's eyes were wide with terror, eyebrows arched. She pulled herself up, falling down with a gasp on the forcastle deck.
"Spider...thing...big," she panted, flinging her arms wide. "Hurry...man...dead." She looked up at the sailors, the motioned back to the rope ladder hanging on the side.
Men appeared over the wood work, chests heaving.

Kuplan made it up the ladder safely, the loud thumping of the large beasts feet pounding against the hull vibrating through his ears. "Everybody! Gather up speed and fight the beast off the boat. Remming, get the artifacts...Casson is to weak to use them, and you''re the only other one able."
"But sir, you know I can''t control them. I don''t possess as much power as he does over them."
"I don''t care! It''s worth a try if my crew''s lives are at risk."

Screams let out all around the ship as the large animal moved swiftly devouring the men as it sank it''s large teeth into their soft flesh. They would turn a purplish color, their viens pulsing before falling to the ground and shattering to pieces.

"Strange," she murmured, drawing herself off the ground. Drawing her sword, Fren steadied herself, pushing her feet into starter's stance. The sword wavered in front of her. It quivered slightly, eagerly awaiting the fight.
She watched the captain out of the corner of her eye, waiting for the next command.

Just when the animal was about to attack Kuplan, he jabbed the beast with his blade, slicing it down it's "chest". It screamed in pain as it fell backwards, the wound healing within seconds. "Dammit, where is Remming?!"

"Right here si-" he started, but then fell to the ground turning the odd color and shattering. The round orbs he had been carrying rolled across the deck. "Dammit, who's going to work the artifacts now?!" He sliced at the large animal again, only to be swiped away across the deck. He landed next to Frens feet, along with an artifact that was glowing brightly. "What did you do? Did you touch it?"

She blinked at the accusation.
"Nothing, sir," Fren swung her sword back in to the sheath. Picking up the object next to her, she rolled it around in her palms.
"I have no idea how to, but I could try to work it for you," she glanced at Remming, and paled.

"Yes, of course." He saw her look at Remming and shuffled between her and his remains. "Well, I would tell you how to work it, but I have no idea how. So basically I guess feel around it for something different, and fire."

She gulped and nodded. Feeling around on the surface, she discovered a slight vibration in one area. Fren pressed it gently, closing her eyes tightly.
Something tugged at her brain. She let it pull on her, following the source. Suddenly, it felt as if her life force had been drained, making her gasp for breath. She swallowed, then concentrated.
A word was forming in her mind. The woman caught it on her tongue.
"Brinjiah!" she shouted, throwing out her palm. Opening her eyes, she saw a violet light swelling on the center of her palm. It flew out, propelling her backward with the force.
The beam flew at the spider, killing it instantly. She stared at the orb, now throbbing gently.
"It drained his life source," she whispered in awe.

Kuplan sat amazed at the powerful blow that blew the spider away. "You aught to be proud of yourself. That was your first time ever working the thing and it looks to be just as powerful. Now, after he recovers, he can tell you how to work it without having to scream." He sheathed his sword with a ka-c***k and walked over to her on the ground. "I would offer you a hand, but I already know you wouldn't take it." He started rounding up the artifacts scattered around her feet, dropping one occasionally.

She rose to her feet, steadying herself with her sword. The woman watched him thoughtfully, red curls twisting into dirty ringlets. She ran a hand through her hair, and grimaced.
"Is there anywhere I might wash up?" she asked, holding out the steadily glowing orb to the captain.

((Sorry it's taken so long to reply...

/scratches back of head))

"Yeah, just head to the sick bay. Then again, you could just go see Casson. I've seen him use one of these orbs to make it rain on himself. Seems to be very effective in cleaning himself." He shoved all the artifacts into a nearby bucket and gave the bucket to Fren. "Knock yourself out."

"Thank you," she glanced down into the bucket, shuddering slightly at the faintly gleaming sphere. Fren ignored the offer of a sick bay, stepping behind a nearby lifeboat. She lugged the bucket and her pack behind her, panting a bit. Setting the boat swinging slightly, she pulled her cotton dress over her head. Off came the linen shift, leaving her stripped and revealed by the side of the ship.
She peeked around, and seeing no one in sight, reached down and grabbed an orb. The pulsing feeling returned, drumming on her fingertips. This one was indigo, leaving her to figure that it meant water.
The woman gently pressed. A refreshing shower cooled her face and hair, raining only on her. She scrubbed her tresses, pulling gently at the ringlets to straighten them.
A second press stopped the spray, leaving her as dry as before. She gasped in amazement at the magic.
Out of her bag came a fresh slip and kirtle, this time azure to match her radiant eyes. Fren laced it up the front, then tied back her hair with a matching ribbon. On came her leather boots, buckled at the knee. She stuffed her filthy garments in the sack, bouncing out to greet the captain.

"She's really amazing. She can even use those weird things that you use already," Kuplan noted on Fren to Casson, watching as one of his men laid a freshly warmed piece of cloth on his forehead. "Really? That is spectacular news. Are you sure it wasn't inadvertantly like the one time with-what's his name? Connely?" Casson chuckled but immediately regretted it. "He almost blew the ship in half." Smiling, he turned back to look at the ceiling and closed his eyes. "Until now, I could only imagineof fighting alongside another using the artifacts. Now it's possible and I'm in a bed with a hot hankerchief on my head. Figures."

She gazed around, brow furrowed at the absence of the captain. Running after one of the sailors, she halted in front of him, stopping him in his tracks.
"Sir, excuse me, could you tell me where to find the captain?" Fren looked up at him questioningly.

"Knowing the Captain, he probably went down to check out how Casson was doing. He's in the sick bay if you were wondering." The man looked back to the deck and began moping again, the slopping of the thick clothe sluggishly being pulled around quite disturbing.

"You're sure none of those artifact thingies can heal right?" The Captain asked suggestively. "Only the one that I used to heal Fren, but you know what the side effects of that baby are. I don't think anybody would want to help me that willingly." Shifting slightly, he stretched his arms and legs, the stiffness a good sign, seeing how before he had fallen asleep a few hours ago he couldn't even feel half of his limbs.
