I don't think I would change into a prosthetic body... I'm afraid of death too, but I would prefer to be all human if I were to die...

If you had a choice, would you abandon your organic body and trade it for a brand new prosthetic/cybernetic body?

It would be nice to not feel pain, (only when you want to), hunger, itch, etc. but then you wouldn't be human anymore. You wouldn't be able to eat your favorite foods, get drunk or feel good when you stretch in the morning. And then there's all the problems with having a cybernetic body such as cyber brain sclerosis, closed shell syndrome and all that... but if it means kicking' serious butt, living a couple of extra years and being immune to pain and all that... I think that maybe I would. 3nodding

I believe that yo are able to get drunk with a prosthetic body (when the Major and Batou are in a bar in the First Gig, just before she alludes to her past and breaking her favourite doll, I seem to remember Batou mentioning how their bodies are still programmed to be able to get drunk...)

I'd go full cyborg, like the Major. With the additional programs to allow you to sense the world as before, plus the ability to choose how you experience it, it's becoming more than human.
The diseases... well, both ways have risks, and there are certainly fewer risks full prosthetic, viewed numerically.

As for merging with the net? Only a strong will such as the Major's could do that, is the point? I think most of us would merely be swallowed up by the net, losing more individuality each moment until we were one with the net. I'd imagine it's happened to many. Kusanagi Motoko is the exception rather than the rule; her ability to maintain individuality is remarked upon by the Laughing Man as being so.

Hmmm, I don't remember. Long time since I've seen that episode. But, I do remember that in the first GitS movie Kusanagi asked Batou something and he asked if she was drunk. She told him that cyborgs were unable to get drunk or something along those lines. -Shrug-

Yeah, despite the setbacks, It's something I would greatly consider.

-Tilts head- I didn't know that. Thanks for pointing it out. surprised heart

cool, the place is still up and running.

they can will the bodies to break down the process before they get drunk, but to hold on to their humainty they allow it soemtimes.

i dont think id ever choose to merge with the net, to loose one individuality is not seomthing id want. i doubt id go for a 100% prosth. body but definly to access the net would mean life or no life in that world. but i think as i got onlder id do more and more untill i would go 100%

To merge with the net and loose one's individuality willingly and on purpose is kind of like a form of suicide. No? >_o

I'd be the same. I'd change 100% by the time I got really old.

well atlest the major can. i think bauto can alos but im nut sure.

yeah it is, but at the end of the second season, the guy (oh i forgot his name) anyways he talked about taking what people he cna to a safe place as the merge on hte net. its kinda a leap of faith but ur right, it is very much like suicide.

yeah so would i, but i think if i did i would leave all the people i know, i wouldnt want them to know about it. think about it, would u like to have a family then grow old and tansfer to a 100% prosetic body, if u stay there u could end up wathcing ur children and grandchildren die. basicly i would start a new life if i ever did it.

The Major drunk. That's a funny mental picture. xd

You mean Kuze. Yeah, I remember. I bet most of the refugees wouldn't have survived if his plans ever went through.
That reminds me; It still bugs me as to why the Major was so eager to join Kuze in his plan of merging the refugees with the net. She didn't question his plan as much as she should have. She just gave in. And the: "I'm sure the others will understand." comment was pretty odd also. Don't you think? I know she had affection for him and all but it just wasn't her usual M.O. :/

Well, I wouldn't leave them. It would be painful to have them die while you still live but I'd stay with them until the end. They'll be gone but I'd still be alive. Does that sound egocentrical? Still, I don't think we would live that long. The brain would eventually give out. I think.

yeah that would be intersting, the major drunk, hahaa batuo egging her on to dance.hahaa. actaull the only time i really heard the statment was in the Ghost in the Shell Movie. but it was also sated that if they ever decided to leave then they would have to give up their bodies and such. i know the tv show takes some liberites with the basics so i wouldnt be surpriesed btu then again the major is too much of a pro to get drunk.

well Kuze was her first love if i remember right. they both survived a plane crash or soemthing as children and spent time in the hopsital together so they have some bond. i think the whole series made her start to question her self, where she was and what she was limited to do. but i do believe hearing bauto sanped her somewhat out of it, cause she didnt go. she left on her own to do her own stuff

16 cm squared. I think that some of the earlier posters either were going off non GitS related prosthetic resources or had forgotten our primary thread stated mission.

The GitS universe cybernetics have advanced to a point where they do feel pain, they can get drunk and sexual organs function only for pleasure. And while it has been interesting seeing many of your opinions. I would find myself in a horrible position by the time prosthetics of that level came into being. 2040-1984= 56. Just old enough to begin looking at prosthetic equipped individuals with a jealous eye, but still comfortable in my own body.

Then again, I haven't really seen any one take a theological stand point with in this thread. So i'll try. A little.

One could say that gaining a body is just delaying your ascent in the afterlife. For some it would be a way to escape divine or infernal rewards. They could also see that the soul was some how spiritually attached to the mortal coil and that trying to get out of that some how puts it outside of our range of earthly experiences. However another could look at a prosthetic body and go, Wow what a great device to ensure the continuation of the poor and ill, and spend a great deal of time helping orphaned childern that have been severly traumatized by granting them partial or even full conversion prosthetics.

Of course it would also depend on how one would see themselves with in their own philosophies of the nature of humanity, the nature and characteristics of a souls and so forth.

most im sure would. i would stick with my human body till i needed to switchg, like and injury but if i live a healthy life, i might change at age 90

But what if you died in the process? I know their death toll in hospitals in this era is low but you could be the one to die

i think they discussed on the show, as long as u have brain waves u could do a transfer. if i was near death i would do it. if im going to do anyways, wahts the difference.
life is without risks

Well, for me it's less about the inimicable experience of being human, and more about the simple logistical issues with it.

On one hand, you would have to worry about the serious medical issues such as closed-shell syndrome and so forth, but you'd have equally serious health risks with an organic body. Cancer, heart trouble genetic predispositions for a huge multitude of illnesses, not to mention biological threats such as viruses and bacteria.

So, health concerns aren't really concerns, when you look at the balance there.

Truth of the matter is that operations for become fully cyberized are expensive and rare, not to mention the cost of the actual prosthetic body itself and the upkeep of the mechanical parts. This expense is highlighted during the refugee crisis of 2nd Gig, wherein the black market prosthetic body trade does brisk business among the poverty-stricken refugees, many of which have serious injuries that warrant the use of extensive prosthetics.

I suppose the price-tag of it all is just one more way to keep people from cyberizing frivolously. I'd hate to be on the legislation end of laws that differentiate between self-aware A.I. in prosthetic shells and people with full cyberization such as Major Motoko.
