Actually, to say that the Pro-Choice guild is more prone to a higher amount of viciousness because of their numbers is inaccurate. They have more members, but we have more posts, so, theoretically, we would be more likely to have hate threads, etc. But we don't. Ya'll do. I'm pretty sure I've linked you to the lovely thread about me before. Yes, people in here bash people in the Pro-Choice guild. But almost every time a mod tells them, "You can't do that here." It's not the same way in the Pro-Choice guild.

I was not saying, at all, that there are more angry and hateful Pro-Choicers then there are Pro-Lifers. But the Pro-Choicers are less moderated, and, in fact, the moderators are far more likely to join in on the bashing then moderators in the PLG.

I don't know about the debate thread. I would guess that it's probably hate filled all around. Yes, as you said, the percentage would of course be higher with the Pro-Lifers because there's only a small number of them, and it's more likely that someone who is willing to fight fire with fire will stay in the thread then someone like me, who is tired of the fighting and name calling.

I think that there is probably equal venting (which in the PCG I do try to correct, and have had others back me up, if they seem to be sometimes unwilling to start it themselves) but that it can be more wide spread in the PCG, since the Mods there are less likely to call people on it when it gets too personal.

And the PCG does have a small handful of really hate-filled people, some of whom are more than willing to add to any problem with Pro-Lifers they see. And Pro-Choicers tend to post in the Guild more when they are upset, since many tend to lurk the Debate rather than hang out in the guild like you nice folks.

The Debate can get downright nasty. I think that, baring one or two foaming at the mouth Pro-Choicers, the majority of regulars tend to remain civil. But everyone has their breaking point, and both sides seem to be adept at pushing buttons of the people on the other side. I tend to lurk and not post, because it gets mean in there. Sometimes I'm too upset to lurk also.

You do have some great Mods in here. I wish more Mods were as good (the ED could use about a hundred as good), I wish the PCG Mods were more willing to at least move the venting more often.

I saw that. But you hadn't replied yet when I posted that. *grin*

I'm A(first name) J(middle name) and soon to be A(last name) too, which will be amusing to me.

I really don't want to bring about debate or hostility in here, because I think that this Guild needs to be a calm (or clam, on days when I can't type) place for Pro-Lifers to relax. I know that by nature, being a Pro-Choicer in a Pro-Life Guild is going to bring about some anger towards me (which is more than understandable) and plenty of misunderstandings.

I do hope not to stir things up too much, while still trying to post my own views without debating. I am very sorry that I do sometimes fail and cause undue drama.

hai, but you are not like them. despite our different views, you are definitely a good person. much like one of us, if i may say so. I have not heard you dis any of us, call us bible-thumpers or mysogonists. you are not blind. i respect you more than any other choicer on gaia for your general good will. a bit confused in my oppinion, but we'll work on that

I don't know if this was directed at me and I sort of assume it wasn't

I really, really, really hate the "Pro-Lifers are mysogonists" rants. I hate, hate, HATE it when someone starts up on that, so much so that I will avoid the Debate, the PCG, and sometimes Gaia for days just to distance myself from it.

Obviously there are a small handful of Pro-Lifers that hate women. I don't think I've seen any in here, but I have seen some in the Debate. There are also Pro-Choicers who hate women. But to say that holding a particular stance on this issue automatically makes one hate women is wrong.

As for the Bible-Thumping thing, I really hope that the whole Pro-Life=Christian stereotype will go away. Yes, there are Christian Pro-Lifers, and there are Christian Pro-Choicers. But that doesn't mean that Pro-Lifers are attempting to shove Christianity down someone's throat (I don't think I've seen it happen more than once or twice). The Bible can be interpted to be against abortion (or for abortion, though that is much, much more of a stretch, I think) but it doesn't say "Do not abort and also blow up abortion clinics" or anything definate (definately crazy, at least) like that.

It would be nice if more Pro-Choicers (and more people in general, no matter their stance on abortion) would think out their arguments before they open their mouths (move their fingers?). It sickens me to see Pro-Choicers who are unable to debate properly and resort to name calling. I used to think better of my own side, but it turns out that humans will always act like humans (which is to say, a lot like monkeys but they sling nasty words instead of poo).

Beware the Jabberwock
Gaia itself has an overabundance of choicers. After awhile getting attacked by choicers who twist your words or ask the exact same questions and then declare victory if you don't answer ALL of them individually, you get kind of fed up. I used to be in that thread like, every single day.

Same here but after getting attacked, asked too many questions at one time and can't answear them all or they take what a said differently I stopped going.
I only posted last time to tell someone the difference between actions and concequence and stuff like that cause alot of people seemed confused and mix the two up.

Yah I really hate being called anti-choice, anti-choice, bible thumper,ect...It's like me calling them stuff like anti-life, pro-death,ect...

I'm not Christian but agnostic so bible thumper don't work with me cause I barly read it and don't even bring it up in debates or God.

The bible just says do not kill. I'm pretty sure it would look down on clinic bombings as well just not said in the bible.

And when it says Murder it means Murder as defighned by God's law, not the law of man. A murder in the eyes of God is a death inflicted on an human who is innocent

Either way it's the same thing. It's death inflicted on a human that is innocent.

Yeah, that's sort of what I thought also. But then I also thought that most assumptions I make in here tend to be wrong, so eek

Yeah. But interptation of the no murdering law could be applied to fetii or it could not. The Bible can be (and is) interpted by many people in many different ways to be for or against just about anything. Being non-Christian, I've always thought the "love thy neighbor as thyself" bit was the most important, personally.

I hate the term "anti-choice" because it's disrespectful. If one can't treat their debate opponant (not enemy) as a fellow human being, one has already lost (sounds sort of Zen).

The insane amount of attention given to any Pro-Lifer in the Debate is probably the hardest part to deal with. There are some disrespectful Pro-Choicers, but also some Pro-Choicers who are polite about it (I know I try to be respectful, and have often failed - everyone has their breaking point and pet peeves, which isn't even an excuse, but is somewhat of an explination).

The name calling and disrespect needs to go, but I don't know if anything can really be done about the number of replies. Perhaps if more patience was practiced by Pro-Choicers, knowing that not all replies can be answered? I don't know...

This is why I adore Waters.

You're such a good-hearted person, Luff. heart

I still sometimes post in the Abortion thread. Just not when certain unnamed creatures decide to unsheath their claws of pro-choiceness on me with personal attacks and insults.

Not a lovely environment.

I try.

Yeah, the Debate can get really ugly. I think the Pro-Life thread is somewhat nicer, but a lot more technical somehow (even though the Debate has like 20-something posts about abortion - it's confusing) everytime I go in someone has a really long detailed post about the 14th Ammendment or the ruling of some case or the meaning of "person". It's like what the Debate would be without the post-and-runners and a couple choice Pro-Choicers.

I'm putting this in a thread that isn't going to be locked to reply.
Moo_moo123
I have that pro-choice people constantly attack me when I'm tring to get my point across like I'm some kind of nazi for being pro-life. stressed

Perhaps, had you been willing to be polite, site facts and sources/back up your opinion, and not outright attack Pro-Choicers, you would have gotten a slightly less angry welcome in the Debate. Now I would be the first to admit that the Debate can get horriblly messy (except that so many people have done it before I could). But being hostile from the start doesn't help. Nor does refusing to back up a single assertion and refusing to ever admit any mistake.

I know the Debate can be really, really mean even to Pro-Lifers who are polite and are willing to site sources. It sucks. But it really doesn't help matters if you are angry and dramatic right off the bat. It really, really helps if you want to be treated with respect when you are willing to treat others with respect first.

Please, I know it's really hard to be the one, or one of a few, Pro-Lifer(s) in the Abortion Debate. But please, please, please try to stay calm and not use name calling as a tactic. I try, really hard, when I am in the Debate to both respect Pro-Lifers and to encourage others to respect Pro-Lifers. But if the Pro-Lifer(s) in question are unwilling or unable to respect Pro-Choicers, how could I possibly ask anyone to treat them with respect?

If you don't want to be attacked by Pro-Choicers in the Debate, please don't attack them first (or even back, in the case of a couple choice Pro-Choicers). Please?
