I did send out some notices way back. Regardless the prize money will be divied up between everyone who posted well in this, seeing as the debate really was kinda nonexistant.

You mean everyone who posted well or just the winning team?

I think I'll tally up the total posters in this thread, we'll go from there. Does anyone think we need to deliberate the fact that team Raoul won, if not by default?
I mean the only people who posted were for team Raoul, aside from that little issue a while back. I would've liked to have seen some of the good arguments I know there are for Erik (maybe not the best, but certainly there have to be some). The list of posters are as follows:
PhantomoftheFox Death_Mistress1 Jusy Elanchana
I figure I might as well reward everyone who's tried to keep something going here rather than pick winners (because I really appreciate the fact that people posted at all), I'll leave this open for a few more days just to get a bit more feedback (and gold to give out ^__^).

Woo!
Yeah, since the Team Raoul people, especially Fox, knocked our socks off with arguments, it's clear (and I just knew from the start) that they would win. So someone from Team Erik better post or the debate goes down the drain.

I'm officially giving Team Erik one week to post, if someone else wants to be on Team Erik they can just ask or start posting.
If not, everyone who's posted so far will get an even share of the 3K+ gold I have to put into this.

Good deal. biggrin
If you want, I could post a little for Team Erik, just to keep the debate going... I know I could find some justification somewhere in my brain.

Anything to keep it alive is great! I'm too busy of late to be here as often as I'd like let alone come up with something useful.

Pardon the delay. Work ate my soul. stare
Alright, let me give this a shot... It's mostly undisputed that Christine should go with Raoul on grounds of stability, safety, and security, but what about moral grounds?
So I propose that Christine should have opted to stay with Erik after he had his big epiphany because it would be the right thing to do. By offering to let her go, he had proven that he could feel real love and thus had some hope for redemption. He finally learned to put other's needs before his own, so why couldn't someone as selfless and moral as Christine do the same for him?
And it's not as if she hated Erik, or would have been completely miserable with him. She obviously pitied him, and there are hints that she could have felt more. (In Apollo's Lyre, Christine carefully refuses to answer when Raoul asks her, "If Erik were good-looking, would you love me?")
So, yes. xD Apologies if I'm a little rusty. I haven't been an E/C shipper since I was a phanling.

Wow, nice arguments, Fox...even though you're on Team Raoul. Are you in a debate club in real life or something?

Eh, well someone has to wake the thread up a little. Now don't make me refute myself... I don't think my brain could take that... xD

Sorry I haven't been around to update the thread here. Personal issues abound and I'm not even at my own house anymore so I'm running on someone else's schedule half the time.
That said, I have to agree with Fox on that point. In book canon he died alone, when in altruistic fairness Christine could have conceivably spent Erik's last days with him. Building on the epiphany statement Erik's realisation of what love really is comes just a little too late, but I think that Christine could have given him that much. For someone who's been alone and scarred and selfish his entire life, that one selfless act means so much more than Raoul letting Christine walk all over him.
And let's face it, Raoul did let Christine do some pretty stupid things for the sake of letting her do what she wanted. For safety I have to say Raoul isn't exactly the greatest choice either.

Responding a little to Fox's argument (because I'm on the free debate team and I can say whatever I want):
Yes, Erik was trying to put Christine's needs before his own by letting her go with Raoul. But if Christine decided to go back with Erik instead after that, Erik's favor would be kind of worthless. He is starting to see that she wouldn't really be happy with him, so he's letting her go to the one she loves.
E/C Ela: But that would make him worse off! He's losing his only love in the world! We all pity Erik!
R/C Ela: Quiet. >_< It's my turn.
