Huamns were actually not meant to drink milk. Think about it, "OMG there's white stuff coming out of these things hanging of of this animal! Lets drink it!"
As a result 75% of the human race is lactose-intolerant. True fact.

I don't think they actually say why he is short in the anime or manga, but I think it is because since Al's body is at the Gate he has toe at for both of them, so he is only getting half of what he needs, so he is short. That is just my theory though, I don't think that it has been proven.

there are lots of reasons why ed is so short...could be because his lack of milk, he hasnt hit puberty yet, or he was just born short. we'll never know. its ok that hes that way cuz he's cute anyways! ^ ^

he doesn't drink his milk, but i also don't drink milk but i'm taller then him and i'm 12. (i drink chocolate milk.)

They kind of explain it in the Manga. The theory is that he is sustaining life for his body and Al's body at the gate. That's also why Ed supposedly sleeps so much and all that. So, he doesn't grow because Al (the adorable little moocher he is) is using up half of Ed's nutrients. So, yay for explanations! I don't remember which volume of the Manga they say this in though, but I could probably look it up if anybody really wanted to know.

I doubt it's 'cause he doesn't drink milk. Since I despise almost every juice there is, so all i practically drink is milk and I'm still short D<
Anyways, in the manga they think it has sometihng to do with some special type of bond between Ed & Al. I think it goes something like Ed's sleeping/eating and doing all that stuff for Al's body too, and since he's only getting half the nutrients, he doesn't grow much. I think it's in manga 11...not sure though confused

hmm, i didn't know the manga. that certainly makes sense. and even if not that, probably a mix of not drinking milk and being born that way.
