As Mathias sat upon his bunk, his mind began to drift. He remembered his time back on Reach, and subsequent events that happened there. He was planetside when the Covenant had arrived there. It was the first time that he had been amidst the havoc and fury that the Covenant unleashed like they had all the other planets. It was the first time in his Marine career that he had been seriously wounded, he had the scars to prove his past.

"******** covenant" he said as he stripped himself of the helmet and set it down next to his bunk. He sat up, thinking for a moment about how much it had hurt. How much those damn plasma rifles hurt. He had almost been killed. Would have if that one SPARTAN didn't arive. He was lucky but the SPARTAN wasn't. He didn't make it off the planet before it was glassed and Michael took the last spot in the Pelican. He regretted every part about that day and he still did.
[Like my little transmission I made Mathias? xD]

((haha yeah, something to write about xd ))
The Captain snapped back into reality when Michael had spoke. Though it wasn't loud, it brought him back to the present. Mathias layed back on his bunk and sighed discontently. "Some memories aren't worth remembering huh?" He said to Michael in a louder tone since he was across the room from him.

"Yeah, they aren't." He looked down at the gun he had assembled and then spoke again, "The next time we see a Covie b*****d, I'm gonna shove the barrel of this gun down its throat." Michael stretched his leg. It had been sore ever since the UNSC had done work on it. That was what had really been messed up at Reach. The cold air in the barracks didn't help either. Standing up and looking around he decided to speak again, "That SPARTAN saved my life. He gave up his for mine and I owe everything to him. But before we left the planet and he began his own onslaught, he said to me, 'Earn this chance to live. Earn it." He rubbed the back of his neck and stretched out his arms, yawning softly. "I'll never forget that."

Mathias chuckled at first to Michael's reply, then fell completely silent when the Sergeant began to speak more seriously about the SPARTAN and earning the chance to stay alive for awhile longer. He let a moment go by before he said anything more. "Something like that would be hard to forget, even if you wanted to..." The Captain said in his own response. "That day wasn't your day to die, neither was it mine."

Michael grinned and nodded his head. His fighting spirit was back. "If I'm going to die, I'm going to go out fighting." A marine in the bunk above his spoke out clearly, now awake, "Hoorah!"

The Captain chuckled and stood up from his bunk, walking towards where Michael was at. "You got that right. Never give up, never surrender. Fight on till the last man!" Mathias replied high spiritedly, becoming amped up from the vibe in the room.

"I wouldn't mind dieing along side you guys. When they said that I'd be with my brothers in arms, I didn't think they had ment you guys. It's been a great experience" he said grabbing onto the bar of the top bunk, smiling. "And if were going to die, we're going to take them with us. We're going to have some company in hell."

Mathias stood back and grinned. His battle hardened, gristled face smirked showing a passionate devotion and belief to what Michael had said. The Comradery he shared with his fellow soldiers, navy personnel included, was something he took very seriously. It was his brothers he fought along side of. The people he would die for without hesitation, but he wouldn't senselessly throw his life away either. "Damn straight!" The Captain threw his fist into the air.

By this time a good amount of Marines were awake and smiling, along with everyone else. Michael clenched a fist and looked around and then he yelled, "We're the UNSC and we don't take s**t from any one! Give those Covie bastards hell and spare on mercy. Can I get a hoorah?!" His fighting mood had come back and he would kick a**, all the way to his grave.

Mathias, including several Marines, and a few ODSTs replied in unison, "HOORAH!!" Followed by the majority of the soldiers beginning chatter amongest themselves how much they wanted to kill the Covenant or 'rip and elite's skull from its head.'
The Captain walked right up to Michael speaking rather loudly so that Michael could hear him over the others, "Well said Hammer."

"And I ment every word of it" he said right back to him, raising his voice a little, "they needed that little bit of encouragement to go on." He was smiling as he heard the marines and ODSTs talking about how they were going to shove a grenade up an elites a**. It was a funny thought.

Michael smiled and put out his hand to Mathias, "And if you ever need a good kick in the a**, I'll be there." He almost laughed as he said those words. But a little humor never did anyone harm.
