Lake Nenuial

Nolah smiled at the redhead at her side and then slipped out of her shoes. She took a few steps towards the water until her feet were submerged an quickly lifted the hem of her skirt, much like a child as the waves rolled around her ankles. " I've always loved the water..." They were in a spot that was more or less hidden from view unless the observer went down to the beach themselves. Nolah shed her blue dress to reveal a black garment beneath. It was one she wore beneath her lighter clothing to ward off the wind and chill. Thought it had been a warm day she'd put the thing on instinctively. After carefully folding her dress over the branch of a tree she tied the black skirt at her knees and then waded into the lake, hair loose and still not entirely dry from earlier.

It was cold but not unpleasantly so and she turned to Loswen. "Are you joining or watching?" She called.

Loswen smiles as Nolah waves back at her. The half-elf sheds her long trousers and tunic, leaving her in a pair of shorts that might have been trousers at one point in their life, and a hand-made shirt made so show off what little figure Loswen had. Both were white, and showed a lot of wear, thought there was not a hole to be seen.

Setting her carefully folded clothes and shoes beside Nolah's own, Loswen wades into the water.

"Ee!" she says, "Cold!" She laughs, looking up and wading until she was to her waist in the water.

"I grew up in Belfalas," she says, "And there, in the sea, the water is warm. This isn't bad, but quite a supprise."

She turns to Nolah, "You look and seem of Royal blood. Where are you from?"

"My family is that of Pennbeleth. My father could trace our nobility back for generations. He had the chart in his study. Sadly, as I said earlier I am the last of my house. My mother died years ago and my father perished in the fall of Numenor." Nolah smiled softly and then eased herself down into the water so that only her head was now exposed.

Both girls shivered at a sudden chill and Nolah watched as a cloud passed over-head, smile giving way to a frown at the sudden change in weather.

Morthol the Squire

The wind was chilly, and the clouds were gathering. Morthol, with his usual curiousity (and a bit of interest), went to the beach, as stealthy as a hare beneath the ground. He would jump across the beach, hiding behind every big rock, until he was able to spot two women bathing. His position could not be compromized.

He took a peek out of the rock, and the natural beauty of Lady Nolah flooded his heart and soul (and something else). Even the clouds that were threatening to pour down their waters now seemed as beautiful as if covered in rainbow colours, and the dim sunlight seemed as if the radiance of the Two Trees, in the time of the mix of light. He was overwhelmed, so overwhelmed, that he did not felt the Captain of the Guard patting his shoulder.

"Wake up, lad, the King is calling for you! Hey! Lad!" The Captain growled in his ear, but he wasn't listening. His mind was frozen, and his mouth wide open

"Ya need a doctor, lad?" The Captain asked. No answer was given.

"For the sake of Manwë, wake up!" Morthol kept motionless...

"All right..." The Captain growled, as he picked him up, as if he was a sack of potatoes. "You're coming to the emfermary. Bloody orcs! Your face is red blood!"

Loswen only catches a glimps of the guard taking away a young man.

"Looks like we had company," she smiles.

She turns to Nolah, "My father is one of the Faithful from that isle. He told me wonderful stories about it. My mother is a Noldorin from Hollin. I am sad that I never saw Numenor. By the time I was old enough to travel there, it was gone."

Nolah too had seen the two men and watched with red cheeks as they left. "Morthol." She said trying to surpress the warmth in her cheeks. "What would-where is the guard taking him?" Loswen shook her head and Nolah started in embarrassment. "I'm sorry Loswen, I was listening, I swear I was-"

" It's quite alright." Loswen smiled softly. "We should head in, I don't like the look of the weather. We can talk further of our lineage once we're warm indoors."

"Yes." Nolah stood so that the water gathered at her waist and the two began the long trek back to shore. As their luck would have it, mere feet away from the pebbled shoreline the clouds burst with water and rained down upon the two figures as they scrambled to land. Clothes that had been so carefully hung only a quarter of an hour earlier was now sodden. A curse fled Nolah's lips unbidden and her blush returned with a vengance. She apologized profusely as she gathered the wet garments from their posts.

"I apologize again, I suppose I am not the best of company." She shrugged. "If you'd like though Larion will probably be waiting with warm food and dry clothing. A scolding for me perhaps but it could be delayed if you arrived. Though I do wish to know what the squire was about, hiding I suppose."

Loswen smiles. "I would enjoy that. As for the squire, two fair women in a lake is enough for any boy to want to look."

She lightly laughs, gathering her soaked clothes from the tree. Instead of trying to put them on, she grabs a long cloak out of her bag. She hands it to Nolah.

"Ladys of nobility should not walk the streets in anything less," she says, "Don't worry about me."

"I thank thee, though I hardly consider Morthol a boy." She smiled gratefully at Loswen before wrapping the cloak around her shivering frame. Now that the blush had gone her dusting of freckles stood out against her white skin. Loswen said something about getting in from the cold and quickly the two women hurried up the path and then into the city streets.

Ten minutes later they once again found themselves outside of Nolah's apartments, dripping water onto the corridor floor. Before the handle could be tried Larion pulled it open with a flourish. She looked about to launch into one of her scoldings but upon the sight of Loswen at Nolah's side she quickly gained composure.

"My lady, Lady Loswen." She curtseyed with a bow of her head and then stepped out of the way to let them enter.

" Thank you Larion." Nolah returned the gesture before she and Loswen strode into the room.

"I've laid out some dry clothes for you M'Lady, I'll go fetch some for your guest. Bejo has a meal of bread and heated honey with a pitcher of warmed wine, I'll send for another glass."

" You're wonderful." Nolah grinned and then after excusing herself disappeared back into her room to change.

Annuminas-Nolah's apartments

Once her door was closed Nolah spied a warm nightgown laid carefully across the bed with one of her robes, though a winter one, trimmed in fur and made of thick wool to guard against the cold. It had been one of her mothers.

Shivering she quickly hung up the borrowed cloak and shed her sopping dress. After drying sufficiently she slipped on the gown and then pulled the robe tight around her. It nearly swallowed her in its size-her mother had been exceptionally tall- and then quickly, hair still loose and uncombed, she went back out into the hall.

The floors were cold against her feet as she made her way to the library. A fire was blazing in the heart and the food was set before two large, cushioned chairs.

" I hope everything is to your taste, My Lady." Bejo stood in the doorway, arms behind his back, hands clasped in respect. Nolah nodded with a smile and then cast another glance around the room with a frown. "Lady Loswen is changing into the clothes Larion got out for her. She'll be here shortly.

"I don't know what I'd do without you two." Nolah gave him a quick peck on the cheek for he had been with her since before she could remember and then settled herself in a chair, tucking her legs beneath her. She felt very much the child for a few moments before reaching for her glass of wine.

Loswen walks into the Library. She is wearing a simply cream dress, and of course she has no idea where it came from. Her flaming red hair is braided around her head, to keep it off her clothes as it dries. She sits in the chair next to Nolah.

"Your friends here like to try and dress me like a Lady," she smiles, "but they are kind."

"Ah, not one for dresses it seems." She gestured to Loswen's glass. "She means well." She added with a smile. "You were telling me of your family."

Loswen smiles. She ends up grinning a bit.

"I grew up in Belfalas with my parents," she says, "my mom is a Noldor survivor from Hollin, and she met my father when he sailed here from Numenor. He is a Dunedain Ranger. He lived in Osgiliath for a while, but once they married, they moved to Belfalas where I was born. I left about twenty years ago, just after my little sister was born. My sister may not even know I'm here, that I even exist. I like it that way. We're half-elves, but as much as we look like our mother's kin, we're mortal. It's hard to fit into either life, but I chose mine. After my sister has chosen hers, my parents will tell here where I went."

"Have you heard no word from your parents about her, what's she's like, where she's gone?" Nolah dipped the corner of her bread into the bowl of honey, eyes flickering to her companion briefly.

Loswen takes a bite, then smiles once again.

Oh, I get letters. The last one I got was a week ago. Neniel, my sister, is in Osgiliath training as a Ranger. She may come to Mithlond, I don't know. By the time I would, she'd be here anyway.

"You will be able to meet her then when we arrive if she comes with the party from Gondor?" Nolah's eyes shone. " You must be so nervous, so excited, so..." Her voice trailed off and she nibbled quietly at the bread.
