part of the reason punishments seem less harsh is because of the differnet in goverment than in the past.
IN the past it was 'guilty untill proven innocent' whereas now it is the other way around. As bad as the punishment might be for someone who comited the crime, it would be even worse for someone who was found guilty but was actaully innocent, because they know they did nothing wrong. I think the punishments are in part to accomadate for this minority.

I think the punishments are in part to accomadate for this minority. Very well said; I didn't take that into consideration. With that, I could see as to why they don't have harsher punishments.

Another thing to bring up to Drago's post; cruel and unusual punishment is banned; I think that's what she was trying to state but couldn't remember what exactly. Cruel and unusual punishment.
