at first i was disappointed. during the 2 years past Dear Diary, i had become obsessed with FFTL's signature sound: matt's back-up vocals, travis' screams, Derek's crazy double-bass abilities, the unity of the guitars, and even Jon (i couldn't hear any bass lines on the album...but he was still cute). To imagine them as anything else would to imagine them to be sell-outs. my girlfriend bought the Heroine for me as a birthday present and i was ecstatic. but once i played the CD, i was immediately disappointed. where was matt's wonderful voice? where were the screams? where was the crazy drumbeats, the spunk (although you could finally hear the bass (thank you Wes))? All of FFTL's music had become SOOO different that i felt like giving up on them. it was a week after the first listening, i decided that the FFTL that i know is too good to give up after 40 min. So i popped Heroine in for a second time and realized that, if anything, FFTL has gotten better! I realized that you shouldn't hate a band for sounding different. after all, if a band keeps releasing the same album over and over again, the fanbase is eventually going to get tired of the band and abandon them. so, to end make a long story to a little question: i think that Heroine is better than Dear Diary

Heroine Was Good. They Just Didn’t Sing Like I Thought They Would. Don’t Get Me Wrong I Think It’s Great Just It’s A Little Different From Their Older Reecords. <3

It was a lot better than I expected. I like the fact that it is different to the other records...that's why it's my favourite =]

I honestly thought that Heroine wasn't nearly as great as I thought it would be. I borrowed the CD from a friend and my first reaction to it was that the sound was completely different. I still enjoy listening to it, but I think the songs sound better as just a song instead of a big bunch of them. It's just alot different and I prefer 'Dear Diary' better, as a whole than compared to Heroine as a whole.
If you know what I mean =

I love them both equally. In some ways I prefer Dear Diary, because of it's accessibility and openness, but in some ways I prefer Heroine because it's so deep and requires though to understand the songs. I think that the mucisianship has developed a lot more on Heroine and I like the way they've experimented with different sounds. The thing with Dear Diary is that it sounds so much more teenage, if you know what I mean. Heroine has so much more depth, where Dear Diary is plain and simple. I still love them both the same though.x. 3nodding

dear diary... was much better than heroine... but heroine was more of a mature sort of thing. they wanted to get rid of the "angsty teenage s**t" and bring in this new matured different view.
both are still really good, although heroine is kind of eh... i was expecting better from it.
