"No need to defend me kind cloak swirling man. These two are probably afraid of me, why look." Montar cast a quick illusion, and to all his allies it appeared as though nothing happened, the illusion he cast however made him look like his enemies worst fear embodied and standing there. "Boo."
PostPosted: Sun Aug 06, 2006 5:01 pm

While a couple of the eight soldiers stumbled back at the sight of the illusion, the others did not. They were seasoned fighters, and if they didn't know an illusion when they saw one, they were too stuborn or drunk to back down from a challenger. Seeing the others draw their blades against the illusions, the two soldiers who had gotten scared then followed the example of their fellows. Soon all eight soldiers has their weapons out, just waiting for further excuse to use them, even the ones Matthew had by the throat.

Sick of this bickering, and looking out for her inn, Omika slammed her hand down on the counter. "Enough!" She yelled, and watched as the soldiers eyed her. "Good sirs, please put away your weapons. As soon as things here have been settled, I shall replenish your cups." She told the soldiers, her voice polite, yet stern so that it just bordered on being insolent.

Then she turned to Matthew and Montar, and spoke with open scolding. "As for you two. No one shall be starting fights with soldiers of our nation's army in my inn. I shall escort you out at once. " Saying this, Omika stepped out from behind the counter and moved between the soldiers and Montar and Matthew. She put a firm, yet small hand on their backs and coaxed them out into the lobby

With a pop Montar vanished, and scurried back into the room witht the guards. Not be scared by his illusion were they. Not buying pies eh? Well it was marketing scheme time. A mischivious look on his face a pie went soaring, right into a guards face, and he popped into invisibility again, scurrying back into the lobby. They had to have at least tried it.

Matthew sheathed his two long daggers, giving a rather sastifying clipping sound as the two daggers were set firmly in their original position. He moved his cloak to once again cover the dual hilts of his left side. He smiled, "Sorry about that gents, forgot you're fighting to protect us." Then he allowed himself to be coaxed into the lobby, but not before looking back one more time at a pie soaring into the face of one of the soldiers. A genuie smile crept across his face. He was going to like it here.

Once Omika had started ushering the two out, the soldiers returned to their drinking and loud talk. It was broken suddenly when the gnome appeared and splattered a pie in a soldier's face. No one moved, no one made a sound as they all watched a bit a pie drip from their comrade's face. Tension built in the air till it was so thick, it threatened to explode in a fury of wraith and anger. But all that tension dispersed when one of the guards, a more light hearted fellow, walked over to the man with the pie in his face, wiped some of it off with his finger, and tasted it.

"Mmh. Not bad." The said simply, and all the others laughed before returning once again to their drinks and talk.

Once Omika had escorted Montar and Matthew out into the lobby and they were out of sight from the guards, Omika dropped her head and sighed. "I wish you hadn't of done that..." She whinned, moving over to the nearest chair and taking a seat. She brought a hand up to her temple and rested her head on it, looking tired and slightly older.

After a quick moments rest, Omika looked up at the two. "You don't actually have to leave, I wouldn't do that to anyone, but I'll have to ask you to make yourself a bit scarce. You can go around back and into the hotsprings if you like, just don't let the guards notice you. I don't need any more trouble from them, and I'd like to keep this place standing."

Taking a long breath and closing her eys briefly, Omika continued, "They shouldn't be here long, so please, don't cause any trouble." She opened her eyes again and leveled them with a determined stare. "I appreiciate the well wishes, but I can take care of myself. No offense, but you don't know how things work here, and you'll only cause trouble." With that said, Omika stood, seeming to have a bit more energy. She waited there to see what their response would be.

Matthew smiled in response, "Of course m'lady," Matthew performed a bow normally given to nobles, "I understand completely. It is a rather interesting world we live in. May I inquire as to the open positions are in this fine establishment?"

Omika raised an eyebrow at Matthew's question and his choice of words. "'Positions'?" She mused, then shrugged. "Whatever really. I'm the only person that really works here, so any help is fine. Unless you specialize in something." She pushed her bangs behind one ear as she thought about it.

Bored with the goings on in the lobby Montar left for the back towards where Omika had said the hot springs were. It had been too long since he had gone for a swim. Arriving quickly he smiled and ran over to the water, cannon balling in. A bit warm but nice nonetheless. Swimming around Montar smiled, then when he realized he still had his clothes on he laughed. They needed to be washed soon anyways.

"Well, uh... my skills involve being rather quiet and sneaky. I'm not too proud of that. Otherwise I noticed you have quite a few people in this place, some of which could definately cause you some trouble. Perhaps by allowing me room and board I could be a," Matthew chose his words carefully, "a loyal protector of this place? I promise not to start trouble and I'm rather clean. I also don't steal..." Matthew mumbled something under his breath which happened to sound a lot like "at least not from people who don't deserve it."

Omika tilted her head gently to one side as she thought, crossing her arms infront of her and changed her weight to one leg so that the smooth curve of her hip was accented through her clothes. It was a habit of her to stand like this when she was thinking something over, and she never even realises she does it.

"Protector, eh?" She said soberly, trying the word out. Then she straighted up, her charming smile returning to her young face. "Ok, you're hired. You can have one of the suites to stay in. Here's the key," taking a rung of keys out from her pocket, Omika took one off, not having to go through any to find the right one, and handed it to Matthew.

"The Suite is on the third floor." Omika instructed cheerfully, "I'll still have to ask you to stay away from the guards for today, however. Speaking of which, I should probably get back. Make yourself at home." With that, Omika left for the bar to continue serving the men.

How near it was to being considered pathetic, the little effort it took to remain unnoticed here. Simply staying seated, not saying a word, and keeping his masked head down, Ivellios had avoided the entire conflict - hadn't even caught the guards' eye. Interesting, however, that this had been their location of choice. Surely, Ivellios thought, there were larger locations nearby? But then, it could be that their camp had given them little other choice than this fairly out-of-the-way inn.

Ivellios sighed at the sight of their futile combat, waving it off. Soon after, both Matthew and the gnome were shooed into the lobby. Such a ruckus over something so simple?

Omika walked back behind the bar and served out another round of drinks. After a good hlaf-hour or so, the guards left in a drunkan stupor, leaving silence and a huge mess behind them. Omika leaned on the counter, sinking her face into her hands, and let out a large sigh of relief.

"Finally." She exclaimed, standing up and wiping some sweat off her soft brow. "And now to take care of their mess." Omika spoke to herself as she took out a rag and started picking up dirty mugs and wiping up the counter. She always hated it when the soldiers came in. It was never anything but trouble. They were rude, loud and messy, and worst of all, if they were displeased they could come back and burn her inn to the ground.

At least they still payed, Omika thought optimistically. They didn't have to pay, instead they could say it was their right to free drinks for protecting the nation. But these men did. She always figured that most of them weren't really bad men, they were just like that because of the war. The war had recked so many fine people, so the soldiers that fight it should be no exception.

Pausing from her cleaning, Omika thought about what effects the war has had on her. The loss of her parents was definitely the biggest thing. It was the reason that she was alone, and managing this inn by herself. Besides that, however, she could find no other things the war could have changed in her. I guess I should feel lucky that I'm not really hit by it's full effects.

Matthew had finally finished 'unpacking' what a great room this was. Matthew stared at his new home for the time being with pride. He missed his own home, but he doubted it still stood. War had called so many into its clutches, Matthew wasn't of the few who didn't suffer the hardships. Matthew had built in ranks, before his talents were recognized and he was transfered to a different line of work. Currently he was pursueing a noble, who had run off from his own kingdom in search of a friend. Not to kill him, rather to help him. Though before his assignment he had met a beautiful woman named Leila. She was daring, overly optimistic, and her eyes seemed to hide no sorrow. The woman was happy with her life, and Matthew was extremely attracted to that. Matthew often felt alone, and upon meeting Leila he had never been so happy. Now he enjoyed life in ways he could never imagine. She was currently on her final assignment. She had infiltrated a secret band of mercenaries who had recently been part of some major assasinations. Matthew had gotten a promise out of her that after this mission she'd resign, and Leila would meet his parents. Then they'd get married. It was Matthew's dream. Matthew took one last look at his room, breathed a sigh of relief and smiled as he proceeded down the steps.

He doubled checked if the guards were gone, luckily they were. Upon seeing Lady Omika in the process of cleaning up, he decided she might need some help. "Excuse me m'lady, do you require some assistance creating a presentable workspace?" Matthew realized that he wasn't in the home of noble's, and corrected himself. "I mean, do you need some help cleaning up?"

Omika looked up from cleaning at the sound of Matthew's voice. "Hmm? Oh! No thank you, I'm fine. This is what I do, after all." She finished wiping off the rest of the counter, and returned to her post behind the bar, where she turned to Ivellios and spoke in an apologetic voice. "I'm horrible sorry for not giving you much attention while they were here, but if I don't take care of them and get them out as soon as possible, things could get ugly for my inn. She offered a weak smile, "So, can I get you anything to make up for it?"

Dripping wet and with a large smile on his face Montar walked into the bar. "Brillant pool out back madame Omika, beautiful pretty water." Frowning slightly he continued. "Got one of my pies wet though." Switching back to a smile he continued again. "Only one though!"

Done talking for now he pulled himself up on a barstool and leaned back, almost falling before grabbing onto the bar and pulling himself forward. "But my clothes are all wet, do you have a place to dry them? I'll give you a pie." Winking Montar smiled and plopped a pie on the bar.
