((Made this post assuming that the hunt was successful. Reply may change depending.)) Word of the Yama pack had reached her weeks ago. The rumor was a pack of fumes had joined together and were working together as a team to cover more land, take down better prey, and protect each other like family - even if they weren't related. The thought of such a pack excited her. Ginger longed for a pack to belong to.
Over the course of her life, she had traveled many lands. She had studied under other, more experience fumes and learned many survival techniques for almost any kind of environment. But she was an adult now. Now it was time to settle down somewhere and pass on what she had learned.
Even though she hadn't met them yet, Ginger knew this pack was where she belonged.
Finally she had made her way to the lands of the Yama Pack. The scent of fumes was faint in the air but the territorial marks were everywhere. As she ventured further into Yama territory, Ginger had a thought. It would be rude to show up empty handed and ask to join a pack where everyone looked out for one another. Yes, she would bring food to prove that she was of value to keep around. Her mind made up, Gin went into hunter mode.
It took her almost half an hour before her nose caught the scent. It was faint, very faint, but it was there. She moved slowly and silently. It wasn't long before she found the source of the scent. A pair of grouse, male and female.
My lucky day. Gin thought to herself. She stood frozen, watching the two birds try and find food of their own. For this meal, she decided to just rely on her instinct. The right moment appeared and Ginger went for it. She dashed and caught the closest ones wing. On very direct shake of her head and the small bones snapped. She dropped it and darted for the second, catching it right before it made it's get away. It was over quickly.
With her head held high, Ginger made her way towards the concentrated smells of the Yama Pack, eager to feed her new family.

Starblade's tail dropped as she trotted along the scent trail to meet up with Thundercloud. They had decided to split up today to see if they would have any luck catching little prey. Starblade herself had been chasing rabbits around, but they got to their warrens before she could get her teeth on them. After a while the rabbits all just vanished, like they tended to after you alarmed more than a couple, so she gave it up as bad luck this time around. It wasn't like they were on the verge of starving to death, but things definitely had room to improve.

Thundercloud's mood was grim. He had been trying to corner a marmot before the creature could spot him and vanish back in its den, but unfortunately it had proved too wary for him to sneak up on. He had thought about digging it out, but there was a chance the den had a bolt hole and he could ill-afford to waste energy.
He was thinking about changing locations. This den was higher up and there was less chance of flooding, important things during the rainy seasons, but it would do them no good to starve. He was going to give it a day or two more to see how things looked, but already he was trying to decide which den might be better to move to.
He found Starblade, looking dejected, and knew she'd had a bad run too. Poor kid, she probably thought she was just a bad hunter and that was why she wasn't making any kills. He opened his mouth to say something reassuring, then stopped as a smell caught his attention. Probably a good thing, reassuring wasn't exactly his specialty. Starblade looked up and saw him sniffing, and joined him. The pair glanced at each other, then began to move forward cautiously. They didn't exactly try to hide (Thundercloud might not have been able to, with all the greens and dull browns and grays), but their postures were alert. They were not violent towards strangers, but no chance risking a stranger who could be violent towards them.

She didn't have to travel very far until she found them. Well, two of them anyway. Perfect. Now she just had to make friends and get accepted. Hopefully the food would help with both of those.
Slowly, she took a few more steps forward to make sure the two others saw her. She knew from the way they stood that they knew she was there, but she wanted to be very visible so they could see her movements. To show she wasn't a threat, Ginger dropped her catch, took a few steps back, sat down, and lowered her eyes and dropped her ears. It was as submissive as she could get without rolling over to expose her neck. She hated feeling so submissive, but she knew first impressions were important and she did not want to be taken as a threat.

Thundercloud and Starblade exchanged a look, and without having to be otherwise prompted Starblade fell in behind his left flank. Thundercloud turned his attention back to the stranger. Her markings were interesting shades of brown that bordered on russet in some places. It looked wolf-like, though she was clearly a Fume. His gaze flickered to the grouse for a second before he resumed watching the female. If she had been traveling for a bit it only seemed to argue that the pack should move to find more prey. Whether or not that was the case, a double kill certainly argued that this female was a strong hunter.
They paused several feet away. Silence stretched between the groups for a moment. It didn't escape Thundercloud's notice that the female was taking a submissive posture. He could think of a number of reasons why that would be and he had no idea, not knowing the motives of the female, which of the reasons was the correct one.
Finally he broke the silence.
"We do not harm strangers who just wish to pass through, but you are traveling through territory claimed by the Yama Pack. Even a kip could have smelled our scent markers. Tell me, what is your purpose in being here?"

Quick little notice. I already updated the front page with this info, but when the HSR is 1 you can roll once a day for the whole week. You only get one participation point per Fume per week though, so this is just to see if you can make a successful hunt and raise your other stats. Check the front page to see how often you can roll depending on the HSR number.

The way the younger girl flanked the male made it obvious that he was higher ranking. Could he be the one in charge of the pack? Or just a higher up member? Beta maybe? Did it matter? They were obviously at home here so they were her key to being accepted.
As they stared her down, she took a deep breath to focus... But it didn't last long. The silence was uncomfortable. Were they judging her? Did they already figure out why she had shown up? Did they get new members often? Was this a test of some sort? Ginger cleared her thoughts. She would find out soon enough... Hopefully. For now though, she needed to just focus on the situation and not over think it. With another deep breath she finally managed to stop the hammering that had started in her chest. She didn't get this nervous often.
She was very relieved when the male broke the silence, speaking directly to her. This was her chance. Ginger straightened up, holding her head high now.
"I am here to prove my worth and join the Yama Pack." She said with all the confidence she could muster.

A slight ear twitch was Thundercloud's only physical reaction, though inside his mind raced. They didn't get many requests to join the pack. Iskiri had been the most random request, and circumstances had led him to accept the request. Storm had also shown interest, but she had been young and new to venture into the world. He hadn't wanted her to join only a whim and he had temporized by telling her she should get to know the land a bit before she made such a decision. That she had tracked the pack to their new den location after they had moved was all the dedication he could have asked for, and he let the dark-furred female join their ranks.
Thundercloud was also surprised the female knew the name of their pack. Iskiri had known a pack was present, but had not known who they were. When had their name become known?
He did not mull over these thoughts since they had no useful point at the moment and would take too much time. "I am Thundercloud, Alpha of the Yama Pack. This is Starblade." Beside him he felt Starblade nod her head in greeting. He continued, "If you wish to join, we certainly won't turn you away. You should know that hunting has been lean these last few weeks. Your timing is actually interesting, for if things do not seem to improve in the next few days we would have moved to another location."

Starblade watched the conversation with interest, but stayed quiet. It was better if the leader did the talking. Her curiosity, already high before, grew when the stranger mentioned wanting to join their pack. New people were rare enough that this was big news! If they could add more hunters to the group, perhaps they would have better luck setting up ambush attacks! They would have tried before but there hadn't been any herds sighted, only small groups of three or four.
When Thundercloud introduced her she nodded, hoping to convey a friendly manner. Her ears dropped slightly when Thundercloud mentioned their string of bad luck. She hoped it wouldn't frighten the stranger away, but it was only right to tell her the truth. Their luck had to turn around at some point though!
