Sighing lightly, Chaz scratched the back of her head. Why would the nurses be less observant than the orderlies? True they weren't looking out for trouble, but they were looking out for themselves. Getting as close to people that could potentially drain your body of blood was not something you did without keeping you wits about you.
"No again, everyone different. Maybe orderly is more observant than nurse, maybe nurse is more observant than orderly. Is like asking if nurse is more likely to enjoy colour blue than orderly..." Chaz said blankly as if her words should have been obvious.

Kiara was definitely up to something, and judging from her questions the future didn't look too Rosy for her nurse... It wasn't something Chaz felt the need to get involved with though, whether Kiara murdered her nurse of not had no effect on her.

VERGIL WILLS
|Seeing is not always believing..|

Vergil furrowed his brow at her statement and scoffed a little, she was tough and a little scary on the outside but spoke her mind, yeah, he knew they were going to get along okay or at least not kill each other for the most part. He couldn't help but listen in on her and the Russian woman's conversation, and they had a point. The nurses didn't seem to care too much that their patients had a mouth full of weaponry and were unusually calm about, well, everything. He looked back over, "Anyone know where we are? Exactly." It seemed like a valid question to ask at this point, "I mean, the location of this facility..."

"It doesn't seem like we'll be leaving this place soon, so we might as well know... any thoughts?" If he didn't know, what were the odds anyone else would, then again, he'd been impaired for the majority of his waking time here, so he was bound to have missed a thing or two.

|...but it damn sure helps|

All Kiara did to acknowledge what the Russian woman said was to give her a slight nod. Her attention then turned to the male who finally spoke. His question made her think, that was a key thing she also had to know. Though, she theorized that they were either somewhere underground or on some island far away. Up until now she didn't care where they were but now that she thought about it, it was rather important to know. Of course the more she thought about it the more she figured out who may know the answer.

After the silence she finally said, "Your best bet would be asking other patients, those who work around this place...they probably know. In fact I may ask some more of my own questions since it is clear we hardly know anything about this place." After that mouthful she became quiet again and as if like a turtle she went back into her shell and stayed there unless they had anything interesting to say towards her. Kiara picked at what food she had left and thought about all the somewhat new information she had gathered. Her head filled with millions of ideas, thoughts and plans.

User ImageAlex did as requested after recieving his tray. The food was nothing special. Most of the time, items were well-varied and accomodated just about everyone through-out the rotation. Western style breakfast this morning. Eggs; toast; bacon, ham, or sausage; and runny oatmeal, that was thankfully, optional. It was served with milk or orange juice, and jam, butter, and honey were made available as well. Alex opted out of the condiments and took a familiar seat, with a prime view of the group of patients he'd been subtley watching bump elbows and take verbal pot-shots at each other for the past few days. They were an interesting bunch to be sure; seemed to be adjusting alright, and had kept their heads down and noses clean so far, but that wasn't going to last. One in particular seemed especially restless, and he knew it would only be a matter of time before the hammer dropped. Someone would snap eventually, but right now Alex was hungry.

It was typical breakfast conversation with Aya. They talked about each others jobs, memories and stories about their lives that were managing to come back over time, but really, even the smallest inconsistency in the daily monotony made for good conversation. Alex liked to reminisce about his home in Salk Lake City and his life there; it kept him sane, and he was sure Aya had developed a few coping mechanisms for dealing with their environment too. He could only guess what she was thinking when he told her that he was going to talk to the new group... "You know, this crud actually doesn't taste that bad, -- but it's got no substance...." Alex had his head resting on the table as he systematically lifted spoonfuls of the oatmeal he didn't touch while eating everything else, before letting the runny liquid drizzle back into his disposable bowl. "Call me crazy, but oatmeal should be distinguishable from soup." He let his comment fall away in silence for a moment, continuing his compulsive ritual. He took his eyes from the spoon, and looked at Aya before trailing his glance to the group at the other table for another diligent pass at their conversation. Truth be told he was fair to decent at reading lips; something most everyone here eventually picked-up for themselves; and part of that skill was the ability to read context through body language. He couldn't see what everyone was saying, but he didn't necessarily need to to know everything they might be talking about to draw his own conclusions about the topics they explored. He didn't let his gaze linger on them long before looking back at Aya. "-- I'll be right back.", he said, lifting his head off the table. He offered her a reassuring glance before standing, grabbing his tray, and taking it to the trash, before heading towards the table, where his wildcard was poking the Russian bear again. "You'll find more questions than answers the more you try to uncover all the twists in this crazed riddle-box.", Alex interjected, having overheard the girl's comment as he neared. He sat by Kiara casually as he glanced around at everyone's expressions. He aimed a passive grin back at them for a moment before, "Oh! -- I'm Alex." He said before aiming a peculiar and expectant expression back at everyone like he was waiting on something.

All I know is we are on island. View from roof is all water, there might be land in distance but is hard to tell.” Chaz managed to say just before Alex made his move. He seemed to be the same boy she was watching in line earlier. She hadn’t managed to see where he moved off to after that with Kiara starting up what could possibly pass as a conversation. The way he spoke, it wasn’t how Chaz had imagined him to act after watching the boy snarl down the line with his eyes at some other patient, or should it be ‘inmate’, it was certainly beginning to feel like it.

After a few seconds more Alex gave name, a nice touch to remind them he was just as human as the rest of them. She had no idea how long Alex had been locked away in this place but it couldn’t have been much longer than herself, could it?
Chaz… Рад с вами познакомиться…”* She replied carefully in her usual monotone fashion. Unlike everyone she had arrived with, the other patients had obviously been here longer, they all had their teeth longer, and they have no doubt used them, or had they? And if Alex had already needed blood… There was every chance he could be sizing them up for his next hit. There was so much Chaz didn’t know, and so much she would not take her chances with. Alex may come across as friendly but she could see a glint somewhere, a glint that reminded her once more of his actions in the food line. There was more to this boy than first met her eye.
I assume you have been here longer than us, yes? which means it is also safe to assume you know more about what has happened to us. Feel like, shedding some light on what happens next?” Chaz said over the table to quietly. Of course she would take anything he said with a pinck of salt, there was nothing to stop the boy from blatantly lying to reel her in for a kill or whatever, she wasn’t even sure if they did use their teeth, of course they could if they needed to, but she hadn’t noticed anyone use them so far… Then again it could just be something they all did quietly and discreetly.
I could make it worth your while…” Chaz added, leaning forwards provocatively to make her scrubs drop away from her chest slightly. A mildly suggestive lingering of her eyes on Alex’s own and a glinting, dangerous, smile shrouded Chaz’s actions in questions. Was she being ‘forward’? Threatening? Both? But the biggest question should be, how would Alex react? Keeping the same airs around herself, Chaz shifted her gaze to the girl sitting at the table Alex had moved from. A slender girl, her muscles looked thin and slight, which either pointed towards her being from money and having other people do all her work, or being extremely ill, before her arrival. Chaz didn’t keep her eyes on the girl long though and turned back to Alex once more.

Kiara had gone off to her thoughts again as she waited for anyone to speak again but despite her thoughts being else where she quickly spotted a male walking toward the table she had first claimed as her own but was quickly occupied by others though it didn't irritate her all too bad since they weren't sitting there talking about useless annoying things. Her eyes, as usual held the same coldness and darkness she had showed everyone before she looked away from the guy who later introduced himself as Alex. When he sat beside her she slightly moved a bit away from him, wanting her own room, not liking others being too close to her. It wasn't paranoia or anything of that sort, it was just her keeping her physical comfort in one piece. The spoon she had in her hand was no in her mouth as she bit the edge of it still thinking about things. At one point one of her lovely fangs pierced through the spoon but only because she had a minor flash back and it had irritated her. Of course everyone was probably paying attention to the new addition at the table so they probably didn't notice that moment of her lose of control. She regained herself and continued to stay quiet feeling no need to introduce herself since he wasn't directing any questions toward her nor talking at her directly.

Kiara picked up some little things now and then whenever some staff came in to do something. Her eyes followed that person everywhere and even lingered at the door after they left. It could clearly be concluded that she was a peculiar person. Perhaps far more mentally unstable than the others? It was something one could not really conclude but if taken the time to get to know her, then they would probably be able to conclude what type of person she truly was. But for now, she seemed to be a cold hearted girl who only spoke when spoken too and only seemed to ask odd questions.

User Image"Chaz? -- I bet!", Alex said sarcastically with an indominable smirk directed back at the Russian; he guessed anyways, whatever she'd said certainly reminded him of vintage spy movies. He leaned forward, and planted his elbows on the table, clasped his hands in the same stance he donned when he waited for the line earlier that morning, and peered at Chaz. "Alex is short for Alexander, that's an easy one; Chaz, -- hmmmm. Well, in the states, it's an abreviation for Charles, but that's a man's name and doesn't do a woman such as yourself justice; something more ellegant instead,.." He paused a moment, before flashing a fang through his smirk. "Charlotte; yes, thats better. It's a pleasure to meet you." He smiled, but was under no dillusion that she wasn't without reason for introducing herself with her nickname, so didn't want to antagonize her by flaunting the name about in front of her. "Heh, sorry. -- I just read your tags. I'm really not that clever."

His comment seemed to bounce off of her, and Alex's smirk melted away to an expression of silent anticipation of what she was about to inquire. He listened to her question with wholehearted interest but found himself distracted from giving a straight-forward answer by what he could only describe as borderline solicitation. "Well!, you certainly are a friendly one; I should have done this a long time ago!", he said with a smile, letting himself tastefully drink her in with his eyes for only a moment before giving her a more concise response. "As tempting as you are, you can relax, alright?... ", he offered with a lighthearted chuckle. "I'll tell you guys anything you want to know. -- But what happens next? Not much else. You're unused hardware, and that's about it. You haven't been here long, but it's getting pretty close for most of you, I'd guess; it's usually after the first week that you start feeling symptoms. They tell you what the teeth do, but even they aren't stupid enough to let us reach a point that we need to use them. Once you start showing the signs, they won't wait long in giving you blood to sustain yourself, which will reset the clock for about as long as it took to get to that point in the first place; rinse and repeat. Most of the time, they just take care of us early before an episode happens. Doesn't always work though, and every once in a while, someone manages to slip under their nose and flips a wig."

He paused to gauge the reactions of those at the table around him. He caught Chaz's aversion of her gaze, and followed it quickly to Aya, but made no acknowledgement that her glance held any significance to him before turning back around and continuing immediately. "Other than that, there really isn't much to tell that you haven't already seen; they've built a pretty little cage for us all, and I don't think they have any intention of letting a blunder of this magnitude have a chance in hell of leaving this place. No matter what direction you look from that rooftop, there is nothing but an endless sea. They planned ahead when starting this whole thing, and all of us fell for the trap. -- But hey, it's not all bad; I'm in the best shape of my life, haven't so much as sneezed since waking up here, get to read all the books I want., he looked around the group, gaining eye-contact with all who would indulge his attempt to do so, as if to make clear there was double-meaning to his next words. "What could be better than this?"

❝You still don't get it do you? Courage isn't about being fearless...

xxxx "Sorry." Katherine mumbled. She knew she shouldn't cry, but there was a difference between should and would. Arugh, why was she so mopey? Was it understandable? The people around her didn't seem all that fazed. But, really, everyone here was far from normal. They had all just been turned into the real life version of a vampire and they were brushing it off like dust of their shoulder. Pull yourself together woman! Can you mentally slap yourself? Well, she did. Kiara spoke for the first time in front of Katherine, asking about the elevators. She also noticed the girl and the blinded man from before playing the eye contact game. Wait-what? How...is that..? Well, she supposed they all must of been cured of a variety of things. Which apparently, included blindness. Chaz raised a good point. You could live in a hundred story apartment building for your whole life and only ever visit two floors. The floor in which you live, and the lobby to exit. It was the content that mattered, not the quantity. Kiara was most likely planning something. It was a little surprising to see her so talkative, even if it was only to gather information. Katherine felt rather out of place sitting by these two women who had their whole act together. Strong and stoic. She needed to aim for that. At the moment, she had nothing to contribute to the conversation, she doubted she'd have very much to say at all. Vergil asked if anyone had any idea on where they were. Katherine straightened out a little, this was something she was a little more interested in.

xxxx Another boy sauntered over to them and introduced himself as Alex. He was looking preetty...uh...jolly. "Katherine." She knew hardly anyone would care, and she didn't help at all to a conversation, but she didn't want to be totally forgotten either. She tried a smile, but it just felt all wrong to her. Finally a question was answered with a straight answer and minimum amount of sarcasm. An island? Well that didn't seem too promising. Katherine was never a strong swimmer. Could barely make it to one end of the pool and back. Oh my g--Chaz! What are you doing?! "I think he'll answer your question without all that..!" Katherine's inner alarm was only shown outwardly with a raised eyebrow. She turned her head away--Kiara d'you just bite through your spoon?! Her eyes couldn't decide where to look now. Alex, probably the most outgoing of the bunch started going off about names, and somehow managed to get to Charlotte all the way from 'Chaz'. Haha, that whole speech just to reveal he read it off her name tag. She had to admit, he would've had her fooled. Charlotte, that was a really pretty name; Katherine wondered if maybe she'd let her call her that? Alex hardly had a reaction at all to Charlotte's flirtation. Instead, he gave a blunt response to the original question. Regular feeding intervals to stop them from growing haywire. She felt sick to her stomach. You sure animal blood wouldn't cut it? She already knew the answer though, this wasn't some crummy teen vampire romance novel, this was reality. And no chance of escape. They really had all just naively fallen for this trap. She wondered how a nurse could work here, knowing what they were doing, and still hold their conscience.

xxxxThis guy, seemed pretty content with his life. But it seemed that his definition of better and hers were far from similar. Think about it. What were they doing? If the natural course of life was allowed to go on, they would have all been dead by now. In order to stay here on this Earth for them, they had to drink blood; or otherwise go insane. This enormous room was filled with people who all needed the same elixir of life. And new patients just like them were probably going to keep coming. Just how was this facility getting all of their blood? She knew this was kind of jumping to conclusions but, from all the other procedures they had gone through, she felt the sharp pain in her chest from her memory. It was most likely not in the most legal way. By doing this, they weren't gaining new life, they were stealing from others. Someone must be developing this; for themselves. And whoever had the nerve to do all this, probably wasn't Mr. Nice Guy. Don't get her wrong, she was grateful to be alive..but... She doe-like eyes met his for a brief moment before they quickly shied away. "There are also times where you should know well enough to pass on the gift." Of course, she'd never voice her opinion aloud; especially not after his spiel about how great it was here.

...it's about being afraid, yet doing it anyways...!❞

Chaz laughed to herself a a little as she lent back into her chair, her intentions had been to show Alex a cloaked dagger, not 'tempt' him, but with him giving them a little info anyway, there was no point in actually threatening him openly for now.
"Symptoms..." Whatever they were Chaz was sure she'd notice them when they appeared. She had been feeling a lot lighter on feet recently, whether it was something to do with her cure or not wasn't obvious though. And the fact that the blood loss was much the same as her original disease, so as things stood, all Chaz had gained was a set of shiny teeth, so far.

"Facility is not biggest, room will run out at some point. How many more will it take to fill 'cage'? what happens when 'cage' is full? I do not want to be here to find out..." Chaz mused as the crowds moved around in the background. If the facility did reach a max, she assumed that those needing the highest level of care would be the first to go. And by the looks of the situation this wasn't all that legal, she doubted they would just let people go. Too much effort had been taken to assure they were out of the way and separate from the world.
PostPosted: Sun Apr 15, 2012 11:11 am

User ImageAlex smirked as Chaz sat back. He could see the consideration in her eyes, and he had a feeling, she would be his first.
"My sentiments, exactly.", he replied to her conjecture. "Things are crowded enough around here as it is -- Someone needs to pull the plug on this place..." He paused as he looked around the table at everyone again, and if one was looking close enough, they would have seen the metallic glint flash in his eyes for a split-second before the light's in the room dimmed, began flickering sporadically, and finally shut off completely. A few seconds in the dark was all it took for all the conversation in the room to shift to panic and uncertainty, growing louder with unease each passing moment as everyone tried to find their bearings in the pitch-dark. "If it's something you really want, you can move mountains to get it. You just have to trust what your gut tells you; you'll feel that 'sixth sense' too."

Alex's ambient words in the darkness hung in the air for a moment, before the lights began to flicker again, and each turned back on. The roar of conversation didn't subside, as most were content to now bellow and laugh about the brief blackout. Something like that was so rare here, it was possible that it had never happened before, and now suddenly everyone in that place had something to talk about. At the table, however, Alex had already stood, and began back towards Aya's table. He was already about halfway when the lights cam back on, and he didn't look back as he finished the distance, and slid himself back into his seat across from her.
"Not a very lively bunch", he said with a self-satisfied smile. "The Russian woman was interesting; calls herself 'Chaz'."

He looked at his friend across the table, and for a moment, his gaze changed to one more intense and foreboding; he was about to make his move, and things were probably going to get hairy. He didn't want to get Aya unwillingly involved, but in truth, weren't they all? Not telling her about his plans had been for his own protection so far, but he'd have no other choice if he wanted to make sure she'd be able to make it out, alive. He shook off his uneasy gaze, and offered her a reassuring smile, as he glanced up at the clock.

Kiara had not lifted her eyes from the table throughout the whole conversation between Alex and Chaz and even during the blackout. She had caught that look in his eyes but did not respond to it other than getting a small smirk on her face but it had quickly vanished. When the lights flicked off she could see where everyone was though faintly. Living in darkness prepared her enough for seeing a bit in the dark. Finally when the lights flickered on she looked to see Alex already half way back to where he was originally. Kiara glanced over at Chaz for a moment before looking away uninterested yet again. The rest of the time she did not speak, falling back into how she was and for now she would not talk to anyone even if they spoke to her. She felt no need to speak since she heard what she needed and said what she had to say. Now, all she waited for was the time to get out of here so she could head off to the library and continue what she had been doing before. She was sneaking around doing things most wouldn't think of doing.

At last when that time came she simply got up and left the room without a word. She had thrown away what food she did not eat along with the spoon that still had a hole in it after she had bit down into it. She was lost in thought as usual as she made her way to the library. Every now and then a patient would glance her way and give her a dirty look or a look that showed that they wanted to drain of her blood but she simply gave them a rather malicious smirk before walking into the library.

" An island, huh...",he thought. Vergil had a feeling that getting out of here wouldn't be easy, now it seemed almost impossible. In the long run, it wouldn't have been a good idea to try and sneak off anyway, in his "condition". What would leaving this place mean? Living a neck away from death, having to consume the life of others to stay alive? What if he lost it and went insane like Alex mentioned before, and took a bite out of his parents or his friends? No leaving wasn't an option at least not yet. He raised his brows and shrugged. Alex's demeanor was slightly refreshing compared to everyone else, and he had almost completely forgotten the other girl that was sitting there, Katherine, until she finally spoke up. Something was familiar about her, but how could he possible have known, right?

He looked back out toward the mess hall as it stared to empty slowly thought about what to do next... that's when the lights went out. Vergil flinched a little, thinking for a moment that his recovery had spiraled downward. The lights came back on reassuring that it was only a temporary black out. Alex was already gone. And so was the other girl sitting near Chaz, um Charlotte, supposedly.

He got up and left his tray on the table, he assumed someone would come around and take care of it. Vergil thought about what Alex had said... "If it's something you really want, you can move mountains to get it. You just have to trust what your gut tells you; you'll feel that 'sixth sense' too." It was true enough, given they had the resources to do so. He walked the corridors extending from the mess hall, barely giving any of the other patients he stumbled across a second glance, as he took a longer path back to his room...

Aya Ikito

Breakfast was somewhat peaceful. Alex had, indeed, saved her a seat, which she took gratefully. It was long before he excused himself and made a short trip over to another group. She watched them from the corner of her eye as she ate, noting a pointed look one woman made at her, which Alex followed, but didn't acknowledge. Aya bit back a smile. What was one the woman's mind? The lights suddenly flickered, and Aya blinked, suddenly blinded in the darkness. The black-out was't long, but when the lights came back on, she had to blink away the spots that appeared in front of her eyes. How had she gotten used to the darkness so quickly, that the light blinded her? She scratched her head in confusion, but just filed away this piece of information for later.

Alex returned to her table soon after the lights came on, noting that the woman's name was Chaz, and she was Russian. 'Chaz.' she thought to herself, glad to be able to put another name to a face. "Well, I think it's a bit hard to be lively after the nights they've gone through recently," she said, a note of humor in her voice. She shifted her gaze back to Alex, catching the intense look he was giving her, which was quickly wiped away. Weird. Alex suddenly seemed really uneasy. "Alex, are you alright? You seem a bit... uneasy," she said, lowering her voice. His reassuring smile did nothing to allay her curiosity, especially as he kept on glancing at the clock. "We've got time before we have to report for Missions. Relax," she said.

User ImageAlex let himself enjoy a laugh in return of her response, but it didn't do much to cure his ails. It only reminded him of what he had to do; what no body else so far seemed willing or able to do. He was tired of waiting, tired of standing aside and watching as the life he unwillingly forfeited was wasted like a white rat, gleaming tiny crimson eyes through cage bars, watching lab coats concoct ways to torture him.

He laughed at her comment, but it was no cover for what was bothering him; he couldn't even keep a smile on his face after the laugh, and Aya wasn't missing anything in Alex's eyes. She noticed his state-of-mind, almost as easily as she had caught him checking the time one too many times; he was busted. -- In the proverbial boxing-match of 'now' or never, it would be 'now' that took the round.

"Huh!?--", He sparked ambiently as she spoke, looking at her as he was caught staring at the clock again.
"Sorry, Aya, -- I, uhm, -- They are making the us move shelves in the Library today.", Alex began, almost too nonchalantly for the mood he was really in. "Sort of a micro-management thing, I guess. Cataloging, taking damaged books out of circulation, that sort of thing. Tedious. -- I'm sortof dreading it, to be honest with you."

He took another look at the clock as he let his deflection sink in. As with any lie, it was first baked in truth; they were reorganizing the library today, but that, of course, wasn't what had him counting the seconds as he felt each tick of the clockhand in his head. He hadn't backed out; quite the contrary, but over breakfast, in the Assembly Hall, wasn't the time or place for what was going on; more specifically what he had to show her, not only about himself, but her as well.

"Actually, if you have some downtime from your Mission today, why not stop by the Library? It'll still be business as usual down there despite the renovations, and I could use the company; besides, there's something I want to show you.", Alex let the words roll off his tongue with such a casual air towards the invitation, it would have been hard not to be curious; just what was so special in the library? Beyond the decent set of computers, and shelves of books that were always there, what hadn't Aya seen before? He smiled, glanced back at the table where he'd been talking with the new arrivals, before letting his gaze fall back to Aya. His eyes said that was waiting for some kind of affirmation, though played it well enough that he didn't seem desperate; that the true weight of that meeting was still elusive.

Aya let out a chuckle. "Is the Library really that boring to you? I'd rather be there than in the garden. I'm stuck pulling weeds today. I don't even get to plant anything new! Just weeds weeds weeds." Aya crinkled her nose in distaste. As much as she loved nature and all, the work that went with keeping up a garden, like pulling weeds, was enough to keep Aya from ever wanting to make a garden herself. She'd more than likely hire someone to take care of it.

"I should be done with my Mission around 1. I can come by before I head back to the Assembly Hall for my next Mission. S'that an alright time? I don't want to interrupt you while you're working or anything..." She was actually glad he'd invited her to come by. First it made her feel good to have a friend who liked hanging out with her, and second it gave her an excuse to visit the library at a time that wasn't Break. Sure there wasn't too much variety when it came to books, but she had found in the weeks since her operation, she was absorbing the content from the books she read much faster than before. She soaked the information in like a sponge.

Back when Aya still had spinocerebellar ataxia and couldn't move, she had to stop her studying because of it. She'd missed studying during that time, and was more than eager to catch up the studies she'd been forced to miss. For this reason, she frequented the Library often. She wouldn't be surprised if she got through all the books there soon.

She had finished her breakfast, and her empty tray lay in front of her, so she pushed it aside, and crossed her arms on the table. She leaned in closer to Alex and asked, "So what is it you wanna show me?" Her eyes were bright with mischief and curiosity. "Did they bring in a new load of books or something?" she added, half joking. She'd be thrilled if that were the case, but she doubted it.
