I think the Akatuski Unit was just a throw in that the author's put in when they were out of ideas.

Considering how quickly Cagalli gave it away to Neo and how that was totally out of character, I would agree with your theory. Not like they wrote it as they went along, RIGHT? ninja

lol, actually i think it was because of conflicts between the creator and director; they had to "compromise". but i think their arguements are what's stopping them from making a third series >.<

Well, the creator never really wanted SEED in the first place, right? Or am I catching the wrong argument? And then there's people saying that the scriptwriter Chiaki Morosawa only got the job because she was the director Mitsuo Fukuda's wife... of course, I don't know if all that's true or not - obviously, they're not about to tell THAT.

no from what i know, he planned SEED, but it just didn't work out when they made it.

And then I also heard about how the head scriptwriter kept on handing in scripts late... so they ended up making it as they went along... I read that even the director admitted to that.

For making the story up as they went, I suppose they did a decent job at keeping everyone in check and being consistant. But I would have liked some more Yzak and Dearka.
Btw, did you guys see what was on the cover of the newest Newtype? Yep, Gundam SEED Destiny. I swear, SEED and Destiny have been on the cover more than any other series. Which is good for us. sweatdrop
