Ruben E. Discano “Bean” Ruben nodded, starting off at Sam’s affirmative response. He wasn’t sure if it was because he didn’t want to talk or not. Really, he didn’t like the number of people. He still counted it as three others, even though the one boy had been hiding, not speaking. One was about the maximum number of people he could stand to be around. He had always been told not to speak unless spoken to, and then only to give a straight answer. He supposed that that was why he was so awful at speaking, now. To anybody but the girl, that was. “Thirteen years.” Ruben sighed as he moved slowly back to where he had been walking before, his eyes looking up at the dark sky. That was how long he had lived like that, worked as a gardener. It seemed weird to even be moving outside of his room and the garden. It was like he was in a whole new world, even if all it was happened to be in shambles. It was all so new, so exciting. The blonde boy stopped, frowning slightly as he looked around. He hadn’t noticed it when he was with the others, but he was growing tired, exhausted really. He gave a short nod, moving by a rather large pile of rubble. He supposed that this would work. He could dig a hallow under it just big enough for himself. Hopefully, then, nobody would find him or bother him. Ruben set down his wire cutters, starting to dig at the base of the pile. He hummed softly to himself as he worked. He was used to working alone, so he almost found it more comfortable. The only other person who was ever in the garden with him while he worked was the girl. And she always just sat among the flowers and watched curiously, as if she couldn’t figure out what he was doing. That had always made him smile. The fountain is my speech. The tulips are my speech. They didnt seem to be argueing with the fellow that had last approached but calmly talking, for the most part it seemed calm, maybe one of them had laughed, that sound always drifted on the wind in places like this. However thinking on the matter she realised the numbers had once more dwindled down to three. There should have been four by now right? It was then her mind realed. That was right, one of them had left. Quickly turning on her heal she looked down at the other side of the pile of rubble where she had left Alles, but the canine was nowhere to be seen. "Ficken" The word escaped her before she could even worry about keeping quite to observe the others, or even caring the word echoed as she stood. What was going through her mind though was the fact she had dropped the single word that could get the wolf-dog to attack any strange thing with a pulse. Hunt. Little angel black birdMaking a mad dash Leyna took off down the pile of rubble, stubling a few times as she decended the rather gentle slop, her boots getting caught here and there. She only had the general idea of where the man had gone off to, but she knew the mutt would be able to track him down easily. And just as she had thought Alles was the one prowl, crouched low and slowly sneaking closer to the man as he began digging. Soon though the creatures animalistic instinct ang gluttonous will kicked in and as the mutt creeped closer it let out a feral growl. Little angel black birdLeyna had no clue where the canine had gone, in her panic she couldnt tell, she couldnt think straight, she just kept running, until she heard the growl. Close. Rushing around a van she was able to see the wolf, crouched and ready to attack. Already breathing hard from her moment of panic she managed to muster up one deep breath, putting her thumb and index finger in her mouth before letting out a high pitched wistle, gathering the dogs attention. "Alles. Stop." she yelled. Her masters call had pulled the canine from her prowl, before she slunk hezitantly to her masters side. The teen sank to her knees in relief, breathing hard and plaing a hand against her chest. That could have been bad for her companion or the man, she was just relieved that nothing bad had happened, but was more focused on catching her breath. ☆═━┈┈━═☆Once upon a time there was a little princess confined all alone ╚══════════════════════════════════════════════════╝saddly she died of a broken heart And i see you | Killing me softly

Ruben E. Discano “Bean” Ruben kept up his soft humming, wondering idly what the others were doing, taking about. He doubted he was being missed, though. He was never missed when he left, he had realized early on. But, really, he would rather not be noticed or missed at all than to be hated and talked about all the time in a bad way. The blonde had learned to be much like a shadow. Never seen nor heard. Really, it was a nice skill to have in days like these. He kept up his digging. Though it sapped him of strength, he would much rather have had somewhere nice to sleep and be safe than be worried and freaking out all night. The humming of the tall man stopped abruptly as he heard something. A low growl of sorts. He turned quickly, taking his shovel out of the ground and holding it forwards, like a weapon. His eyes found a shape in the darkness, either a large dog or a small wolf, the gardener couldn’t quite be sure which. But in any case, it sure wasn’t friendly, judging by the low growl it let out. He took a step forwards towards it, hoping he could scare it by defending his ground. The blonde’s eyes were fixed on it. Did he turn tail or try to fight it? His mind raced. He wasn’t sure which would be better. His heart was starting to pound in his chest. He hadn’t even gone that far. He needed to go farther, search longer. His attention, along with the animal’s was turned towards a sharp whistle. Ruben relaxed as he saw the female, she seemed to be an owner of sorts. He relaxed fully, leaning on his shovel as she commanded the dog and it moved back to her side. That was certainly a fortunate turn. He left his shovel sticking in the ground, moving over to the girl. She didn’t look very old, that was for sure. He leaned over, placing his hands on his knees as his sharp green eyes studied her. “You alright? Just catch your breath. Then you can speak if you feel the need to.” He advised her calmly before turning back, picking up the shovel again and going back to his digging. His little cave was almost big enough for himself, which he was glad for. He wiped the sweat from his head with the back of his gloved hand before stopping and peering at the girl again. The small female intrigued him. She seemed so gathered and prepared. Plus, just the few words that she had spoken made her seem confident with what she was doing. Ruben felt slightly jealous, though he hardly knew the girl. She just seemed so… Together. Not like Sam, Koi, or that boy who wouldn’t come out from hiding. The fountain is my speech. At least the creature knew it had done wrong, or was in trouble, either way she wasnt going to attack the man. Pointing a finger at the canine it took little more than a stern "No" to shift the creature into a full submissive stance to the woman whom had always cared for it, even elicting a soft whimper of sorts from the beast. However with the imediate crisis averted her hand twitched at her side, wary of the man as he approached, one could never be too careful. Though seeing as he had left the shovel where he had been working, and he didnt seem to have any other weapons on him, at least visibly she relaxed a bit. Little angel black birdGazing at the man now in an almost confused manor Leyna couldnt help but blink, a tad startled by his question. Was she okay? He was the one who was going to try an fend off a hungry wolf mix with a shovel and he was asking if she was okay? She gave a soft nod to answer his question and then one more when he said just to catch her breath, there wasnt much more she could do than just that for now, any attempt to speak at this point would only be in vein. Taking slow deep breaths, inhaling through her nose and exhaling softly through her mouth she let her eyes follow the man as he returned to whatever it was he was trying to do. Why in the world was he digging? Was he looking for something? Was it for shelter? She couldnt be too sure about any reasoning for that. Little angel black birdFinally catching her breath she just sat there, watching him with curious eyes for a moment before seeing him wipe his brow she shifted shrugging the bag off of one of her shoulder before pivoting it on the other. "Are you okay?" she asked now that she was able to muster up enough breath to speak calmly. Digging through the bag she glanced up just keeping an eye on the man before she managed to weasle out what she had been going for without spilling the rest of the bags contents. A bottle of water. Zipping the bag once more, prize in hand she shrugged it back to its proper place before standing, lightly dusting off her pant legs in the process. Even with her boots to add a bit of height she didnt stand taller than five foot two. Trying not to focus on the rather obvious height difference she held out the water to the man "Least I can do for an apology, right?" she said simply. She felt bad that her companion could have done the man damage, but seeing as he was indeed working up a sweat only made to urge to give him something as a simple apology grow, and that twinge of natural worry at least wished the man not to be dehydrated, that that her expression showed much emotion. ☆═━┈┈━═☆Once upon a time there was a little princess confined all alone ╚══════════════════════════════════════════════════╝saddly she died of a broken heart And i see you | Killing me softly

Ruben E. Discano “Bean” Ruben watched the girl, his brows furrowing slightly in confusion when she asked if he was okay. He looked down at himself, wondering if he shouldn’t have been alright or something. Really, he wasn’t used to that question. People didn’t usually care about how he was. “I’m fine.” He said softly, his eyes moving back up to the small girl. “Thank you.” His voice was small, honest. But rather quickly his soft smile melted off of his face, back to his expressionless gaze he normally had. He moved over to the dugout, squatting down and running his gloved hand along the inside wall. Luckily, he had picked a good spot and the walls were firm and held together. He turned, a bit startled at the female, holding out the water. An apology? He frowned softly, his eyes flitting from it to her. Why did she feel the need to apologize? It was just an accident, of course. The blonde shook his head, standing back up. He was struck by how small she was, at least a good seven inches shorter than him, perhaps more. “No.” He told her, his voice back to that soft and gentle tone. “Keep it for yourself. No apology is needed.” He hesitated, thinking about introducing himself. But Ruben dismissed the thought quickly. That was viewed as rude, like he thought he was the better man. Which he wasn’t. No, if she wanted to introduce herself, he would just say his name in a proper reply. There was no need to force anything. He closed his eyes, doing some mental calculations on how big this dugout would have to be. This would have been so much easier if he was shorter. The blonde opened his eyes, moving over to his wire cutters and starting to dig through the rubble pile, searching for something he could use for a kind of door substitute. He found himself thankful for his gloves, it made never taking them off a bit more cheerful. The fountain is my speech. The tulips are my speech. The grass and trees are my speech. Though hearing him say he was fine she nodded, though the thanks just sounded odd, his voice had sounded small, compared to the rather collected and detached tone he had spoken with before. The soft smile was just as unexpected though she only saw a flash of it as it faded away and he returned to that emotionless state he had been in but a moment before. She knew she shouldnt be one to talk but it was odd to see the man so gaurded, though maybe it had been the slip of a smile before returning to that emotionless guise that made her think so. Little angel black birdSeeing him startled once more she blinked, mostly suprised by his reaction. Offering him the water was a small token yes but it seemed like the least she could do. She felt guilty for letting the canine out of her sight, and even just thinking of the possible outcomes if she hadn't noticed the dog had left at that moment, if she had been a few moments later in getting there, if she had gone off in the wrong direction. She didnt want to think on the possibility of loosing her companion or allowing the canine to injure another person. As he refused her apology she sighed softly, both at his refusal and at his tone, she couldn't not let him take it after that. Little angel black birdWatching the blonde move to the pile of rubble and begin digging around she sighed once more, running a hand through her hair, a force of habit she had grown somewhat tired of after having a 'patient' point that out. "At the very least you look like you could use a drink" she offered, arching a brow as he dug around, curious as to what it is he was doing, but she would have felt awkward asking. Though it was in this moment that the idea of introducing herself came to her mind. Would it be too odd considering the circumstances though before she could think too much harder on the matter she slipped "Leyna" she said, blinking a bit when she realized what she had said, though it seemed as though her choice had been made "My name is Leyna. Nice to meet you... though not under the circumstances" she said rather honestly, feeling a bit awkward. ☆═━┈┈━═☆Once upon a time there was a little princess confined all alone ╚══════════════════════════════════════════════════╝saddly she died of a broken heart And i see you | Killing me softly

Ruben E. Discano “Bean” Ruben continued to dig around, reaching for something far back and nearly slipping. He caught himself quickly, looking around instinctively before reaching back forwards, more carefully this time, and pulling out the long sheet of metal. He smiled triumphantly at the slab as he eased it down on to the ground. Perfect. He wiped his hands off on his pants before turning to the girl as she spoke again. He sighed softly. Why was she pressing this so much? He felt bad taking a drink from her, but his blonde head bobbed slightly. He was certainly parched, though he would never admit it. He reached out, taking the bottle carefully, without letting his gloved fingers touch her bare ones, and took a small sip from the bottle before handing it back to her. It was almost as if Ruben was teasing himself, taking such a small amount. It made him crave it, want to snatch it back and down the whole thing. But he restrained himself. “Thank you.” The man turned back to what he had been doing before, lifting the edge of the sheet metal slightly and setting it on the rubble over the trench. It was at just the right angle to create a sort of roof. He smiled down at his handwork. That would be perfect for the night. “Discano. Ruben.” He introduced himself rather flatly, just like he had to Sam, earlier. He turned back to Leyna, studying her for a moment, thinking over her words. “Isn’t any meeting with a kind soul a pleasant meeting?” The blonde inquired, his green eyes sharp and curious, his lips pursed slightly. He looked at her for a long moment before turning away, feeling shy again. He moved over to his wire cutters and set them next to the little shelter he had made, moving his shovel along with it. Mostly, it was just something to busy his hands, to keep himself from looking directly at the petite female. Ruben had never been able to look someone in the eye for very long, and now was no exception. The fountain is my speech. The tulips are my speech. The grass and trees are my speech. However as the man gave in and finally took the water from her she couldnt withold a soft smile, though it lasted only an instant. Seeing that he had only taken a small amount her smile fell as he handed the bottle back to her, still hearing his thanks she just gave a soft nod, subconsiously tightening the cap before turning the bottle in her hands, biting back an oversealous responce on dehydration and the effects on the body. Digging the hole in the ground undoubtable would have made the other work up a sweat. Knowing all of the effects of dehydration on the body and how it could quickly sprial out of control only kicked her worry-dar into over drive, not that she showed much worry. If there was one thing she could hide it was that. Little angel black birdHer attention was gathered once more when she heard the man introduce himself. "Ruben" she echoed softly, commiting it to memory incase their paths were to cross once more. Though as he went speaking she blinked a bit startled by his sudden comment, though after thinking for a moment on it she couldnt fight a slight smile "That is true" she said though added "However i must admit calling the dog off of said kind soul is not quite the way i like to meet people, many would call that a tad less than pleasant" she mused as he moved back to the hole, she found saying so much at once strange but it was a nice change of pace, even more so the fact that someone was there to respond. Ruben E. Discano “Bean” Ruben’s head swiveled around instinctively when he heard his name, like an eager puppy. His cheeks only flushed as he turned back around, digging his toe around in the dirt as he worked to contain his feelings. Luckily, it was dark so that it probably couldn’t be seen all that well. “I’m not a kind soul.” Ruben admitted quietly. “Far from it, really. But thank you. I more meant you.” His eyes looked up at the sky. He wondered what time it was, though time didn’t much matter these days. There was nothing to wait for. You slept when you got tired and woke up when you were refreshed. That was just life. “I think it’s alright. There was no incident. No reason to see I than anything less than…” The blonde trailed off. He hated the word ‘pleasant.’ Whenever he said it he didn’t mean it. It was just another one of his rehearsed words. It was just another thing that had no meaning in his life. “Nice.” He said slowly, instead. He hoped she wouldn’t ask about his hesitation or his use of words. The blonde sighed heavily, sitting down and running his fingers across the dirt and ashes on the ground. “I miss the plants.” He said quietly, sadly. “The world just isn’t whole without them here.” Maybe his words were slightly biased, since he used to be a gardener. He wasn’t sure. All Ruben knew was that the world just didn’t seem right. So barren, so bleak and sad. It was like all the color had been sucked away, like a never ending winter. One with no snow, only ashes. He wondered that, if a storm came, if the wind would blow it all away, if the rain would run the ground elsewhere. If so… what would be left? Ruben supposed that they only had to wait to find out. The fountain is my speech. The tulips are my speech. The grass and trees are my speech. - George T Delacorte

Like some form of innocence had survived. Shaking her head at his comment she said simply "I find it hard to believe that someone who can remain so calm with a person after a greeting like that from their 'pet', or respond so... egarly to hearing his name could be too far from falling under the classification of 'kind soul' " she said honestly, holding back a light laugh. Taking slight notice of his hezitation and the way he almost carefully picked the last word she arched a brow but didnt say anything, she didnt much have a right to devle in much with the practical stranger though she was a bit curious "Well if thats the case you have one calm head upon your shoulders" she said before taking up spinning the bottle in her hands once more, a friendly distraction that was really just something to keep the bute of her curiousity at bay. No need to go testing his patience with an endless game of twenty questions. Little angel black birdAdmitantly seeing the male take a seat made her feel a twinge better about their height difference, even with her boots to add an inch or so he still towered over her. Damned genetic fluke. She cursed it every chance she got. However hearing his rather saddened comment on the plants and how the world really just wasnt the same without them she sighed softly and shifted her gaze towards the stars. There were alot of things that made the world seem lacking now... so many things... so many people. She stopped turning the bottle and subconsiously bit her lip for but a moment. "Just give it time" she breathed softly, that was all they could do for many things, just wait. "The sun still shines, rain still falls now and then and the wind still blows. Plants are resourceful. It's only a matter of time" she finished off before resuming the slight spinning of the bottle. Just wait. It pained her to think about it but there was little more people could do. They could go out in search, like she was for her brother, but in the end it was all in times hands. Samantha Robinson. Death is not an end, FriendsSamantha looked at Koi, asking the same question she was thinking. She looked back to Ixil waiting for him to start signing. "Deer." she answered looking back to Koi, that would explain it. Though she always thought deers as animals who had a sense that told them that danger was near. Or maybe they were just some very unlucky deer. "Learn." she said, she was getting better at this as they went, remembering more as he signed. Maybe that was just because he was signing slowly though, she couldn't be quite sure about it. She got confused though when he spelled his name out again, trying to understand what he met.But merely a new beginning.

Ruben E. Discano “Bean” Ruben’s face heated up more as she spoke as he leaned back on his hands. So she had noticed his quick turning at the sound of her name. “It’s not really a choice of mine.” He sighed softly. “It was the way I was raised. Remain calm, keep your mouth shut, and remain…” He frowned at the word. “Polite.” He made a slight face. “Even if I felt angry at you for losing track of your little friend, I couldn’t ever lash out in anger. I would always have that damned politeness stuck in my mind.” Ruben’s words were bitter, and he immediately felt sorry for saying them. Really, the only thing he could ever get angry with was not being able to let out his emotions. Which really didn't make much sense. But, instead of trying to excuse the words that he wanted to take back so desperately, he switched gears, deciding to explain something else, the other thing she had pointed out about him. “And I respond so eagerly to being called Ruben because only two people have ever called me by that name. My mother, and the little girl who lived in the mansion I worked at. Though she usually called me by silly nicknames.” He smiled, thinking about it. Her favorite for him had always been ‘Bean.’ She’d move up to him, peering at him curiously and would say, ‘You’re the bean planter, aren’t you?’ Eventually, it was just shortened to Bean. Even as they grew older, the nickname stuck with him. The blonde shook his head a bit. He supposed Leyna wouldn’t understand. It was too hard to imagine for most people, being a gardener for thirteen years in the same mansion? It was insane, really. It was only because of the girl that he had stayed so long, really. She had needed a big brother figure. And he fit the mold. “I’m sorry.” He excused himself quickly. “I usually don’t talk so much. I’m not good with people. So usually I’m either cold, or I ramble. I suppose with you it’s the latter.” Ruben knew that that was only because he didn’t feel threatened, like he had with Sam and Koi. But, somehow, he didn’t think that she would take the information like he intended. So he just didn’t volunteer it. "I'm not as good of a person as I may seem." He said, reminding her, and himself really, of why he had rambled like that to begin with. At leasthe had a point, this time. “That may be true.” The blonde responded evenly. “But if the seeds are burned, as resourceful as they may be, they will never just reappear. Some may be gone forever. But people are too involved with merely getting along to care about this world that they’re on. Without plants, the animals will die. And then us. Really. It doesn’t make sense to just survive… Now does it?” Ruben asked her, turning to face her, his green eyes challenging and say at the same time. A myriad of emotions were floating though him, all tangled together like a ball of thread. Really, he was worried he was speaking too much. That he wasn’t listening. That she would get angry with him and leave him. He hadn’t realized how much he had wanted a friend. More than any food or water, he just wanted someone to talk with him and listen to him. At least for a little while, before he had to leave again.

Koi 'deer' he heard Sam say, the buy was hunting deer, he supposed that made sense. When Ixil told him to learn he more then understood, having someone speak for you because another can't understand was very inconvenient.
Koi was slightly starting to enjoy the company of the two people, but then he started thinking about Ruben and if he was alright. He still had the head injury...but he seemed like he knew how to take care of himself, find food for himself...suddenly Koi's stomach rumbled, he hadn't eaten anything since this morning, again his stomach rumbled he tried to hide and flushed a little "ah-hum" he said trying to get the attention away from his ever growing louder stomach "I think its time I left this place" he said and began walking away from the two and stopped for a moment "if you want to join is be fine with that" he said not really directing his offer at either if them.

The complexities moving in |And I feel that I do not have the strength | Tregedies plaguing me solemnly | It's affecting my will. And darkness is fading in | And darkness is real ╔══════════════════════════════════════════════════╗ ℒεყɲɑ 𝔄ოʂεℓ Little angel black birdBlinking slightly she listened as he went on explaining that he had no choice in the way he acted since he had been raised to basically supress emotion. She couldnt fight a scowl at the notion. The idea of a person being forced to repress reactions and remain calm, to keep quiet and even more remain polite. She struggled with pretty much all of those just to not appear too nosey, she was full of questions, spoke without thinking and could be blunt to the point it pained people. "Well... there goes any thought that you really weren't mad at me and that i'm not being an ignorant piss off at the moment out the metaphorical window" she sighed, that was the one thing that bothered her most, the feeling that tore at her insides, the potential that she was completly rubbing someone the wrong way. "Though for throwing damned in there i'd have to think you are a natural at being not too polite when you want to" she said, half joking around though her tone didnt much give that away, the thought of angering another had her a tad downtrodden. First actual conversation with a human being and she could have ultimatly pissed him off and had no clue. Little angel black birdListening to his explination as to his egar responce to being called Ruben, she couldnt help but smile slightly, it was a bit of a saddened smile though she didnt show him it. Instead after schooling away the bit of saddness for the stranger she flashed a bit of a playful smile his way and said "Well then you can kick that number up to three Ruben-ben me boy" she said, initially saying his name in a bit of an odd accent making it sound more along the lines of 'roobeen' and ading in the last part for the hell of it. She could understand the nickname bit just a bit, her elder brothers had done things like that, singing out a little play on words with her name, usually something along the lines of 'little lady Le-le' or something like that. Even now though she found the thought just a bit infuriating, though the affection behind the nicknames was missed. Hearing the apology she only shook her head "On the contrary, I find the rambling to be a nice change of pace" she said, honestly any form of conversation would classify as a nice change of pace but he didnt need to know that. Though as he went on to once more say he wasnt as good of a person as he seemed she frowned slightly "Wouldn't you say thats call i get to make? Weither i think your a good person or not" she said turning now to look at him with observing eyes before turning her eyes back to the stars once more. Little angel black birdGiving a gentle nod felt like all she could do as he spoke, explaining that if the seeds were burnt they would be rendered useless, that some could be lost forever. The part about the animals needing the plants to survive she knew and that soon after that they would follow. "But they can't all be gone. The world was not engulfed in flame... not everything can be gone." she murmured softly, it couldnt all just be gone, they had deer roaming through the remnants of the town, so it made sense that there would be some plants close by, something for them to feed on. "And not everyone is just surviving. Some of us are searching... you yourself sound like the later" she said calmly just drawing the conclusion that that was the case, after all with all that had happened many still had something to live for, some urge or quest that kept them going. ☆═━┈┈━═☆Once upon a time there was a little princess confined all alone ╚══════════════════════════════════════════════════╝saddly she died of a broken heart And i see you | Killing me softly
