Actually, I still won't date black guys. Don't ask. All psychological, really.

Dating is a bit different, you don't date people you aren't attracted to. If you don't like black guys, you aren't attracted to them, so you wouldn't date them.

Lol, anyway, hiring really depends...if you're in a situation where you are directly working with this person for much of the time, it would hardly be fair to either of you if the whole time you acted out on racism even though you didn't realize you were doing it. That's perfectly possible; discriminating accidentally, I mean. If you don't feel comfortable with someone, regardless of why, you shouldn't be working with him or her everyday if it's strong enough a discomfort that you aren't sure how well you'll be able to set your prejudice aside.

Not so, you can't inadvertantly not hire someone because of their skin colour. If they're dressed properly, seem well educated, well spoken, good experience and over all great for the job and you hire some one who wouldn't be as good at the job, because they're white, there's nothing inadvertant about that.

Did that come out right? I mean, like, you may not realize that your'e doing it, but maybe you use them as a scapegoat or don't give them enough recognition because in the back of your mind, there's a block sorta. Prejudice is emotional more than it is intellectual, andj ust like depression, love, hate, happiness, you can control it to a certain extent but you don't want to put yourself in a situation where you might get out of control.

Racism is very emotional and not intellectual, but so is abuse. That doesn't make it "okay" or "understandable".

Don't always know what makes you tick. People are in denial because it's a nice place to be; you can get yourself to believe that the white person would be better at the job for real reasons, usually made up reasons that you don't even realize you're making up. People do it all the time. I understand not hiring someone based on your fear that you will treat them differently. Some people are never going to stop being racist, it's too set in their minds without them even realizing how much of a hold it is. Lot of people who say, "I'm not racist," and really are honestly believe that they aren't.

I don't date black guys because a black guy tried to rape me. I'm attracted to them, but I won't date them. It's a silly prejudice, I should get over it, but I can't and well, that's the end of it. I don't think a guy would enjoy dating me if I was nervous the whole time, like, not just regular nervous "omg he's looking at me can he actually like me omg i think i've got a crush" nervous. And I don't want to put me through that at this point, quite frankly, bad enough

But hey, I understand wanting to abort....doesn't mean I don't fight against it. I just understand how someone can do it. Well, sorta. I don't agree with it, strongly, but I understand. Still, I fight.

LOL I just got off the phone with my friend. First he said that Americans are terrorists for killing off the Native Americans and shouldn't complain about al qaeda, dismissing the fact that the first Americans came from his precious Europe. Then When I said that holding predecessors accountable for ancestral crimes would be like if someone took over Germany and started shoving German gentiles into ovens and the world said, well, stop complaining, Germany, you did it too. "I wasn't old enough to even talk then." "Well your parents did." "They died in concentration camps when I was a boy." "Well they were THERE! So you shouldn't be complaining." Then he suddenly had to go. The minute you say that the innocent people who are born from not so innocent people are just as guilty as their parents, there's something wrong.

Alright I know I said I was leaving, but something came to mind that I want to post before I go. What is this bullshit about eating chicken eggs = chicken abortions? That's complete bull.

So I want a show of... answers. (if you raise your hand I can't really tell) How many people here eat FERTALIZED chicken eggs?

Edit: I'm raising the stakes, answer this also; how many people here equate eating chickens themselves to murdering human beings?

I don't eat eggs- icky. But yah, they're not fertalized. So what. And killing a chicken equal to killing self. I know I'm not a genius(lol I still have no clue how I got into honor classes) but I thought I was at least smarter and more important than a hicken! gonk And I just started getting over my self esteem issues! gonk

When hiring, you are obligated to hire based on ability and positive qualities. Does this always happen? No. We live in a world where white people are chosen before minorities, and men before women. Is this right? No! I absolutely believe that the government should take part in assuring that the most capable people are being placed in the nation's jobs, both for the employer and for the consumer.
I'll note that this doesn't ever mean that we should reverse discrimination to favor minorities and women. If I try out for a job which includes lifting heavy objects (such as in a farm/feed store) and a white man happens to be the strongest, he should most certainly get the job. Appearance and other qualities that have nothing to do with the work should NOT be considered at all.

Everyone has the right to be ignorant; and so to be racist. However, when you begin voicing or acting on such an opinion in a way that could be harmful to someone else .. that is NOT okay.

Homosexuals .. ah, here goes. I'm a liberal commie, I know. heart

Our country is not a Christian nation. Sorry, but here we have a little thing called separation of church and state. As a Christian, I can honestly say that I believe denying homosexuals a government-recognized marriage is absolutely ridiculous. Whether the Christian church wants to recognize such a marriage is the choice of the church, but homosexuals deserve the right to live without being pestered, and to marry the one they love?

Disagree? 'Skay, 'cause you can't get married either, sinner.
I don't think YOU can marry either. Your relationship almost certainly grew from a lust, which is also a sin. You saw him and thought he was just too cute? DING! Wrong! Because your relationship sprung from such a vile sin as lust, and probably still grows in it, you can't marry either. How does that sound? Not too good? Well .. it's okay, because we DO have a separation of church and state, and I say we stick to it.

I state again that I am a Christian, and a sinner. I try my best to be a humble Christian, too, because being judgemental is sinning, too. I understand that I have lied, lusted, said God's name in vain, worshiped idols .. numerous sins .. and that I am no better than anyone else, including homosexuals. As Christians, I say we teach through serving and not preach from a high horse.

The fact remains that the marriage of homosexuals harms not one person. As such, these people have the right to be married as far as the government is concerned.

I'm all for gay unions. This has caused much religious turbulance in my life, but....I have so many reasons for it. I still say, however, that you don't have to employ everyone. You have the right to employ who you want, regardless of their qualifications. It's to your detriment if you pick someone who isn't as fit as another based on race. Who's it hurting? That qualified person will go on to get another job and become competition, and be better than the person you hired. You won't gain as much money if you pick an underqualified person based on race. It's not right, I believe, but it's still an option that people should have. When you hire someone, you're discriminating. Hopefully, against unfit people, but some people do it racially. It's not right but who's to say what qualifications matter most? What sort of employee you're looking for? If someone outright says, I don't hire black people, that's illegal, I think. But you'd have to be pretty stupid to say that...... The point is, women and minorities have the right to get a job anywhere at any company, mostly, but it's up to the employers to hire who they want. Unless they say it's due to sex or race, nothing can be done and nothing should be done. I'm tired of people who don't get their way claiming racism or sexism when really, they just weren't fit. I'm tired of people making money by sueing doctors for their own mistakes. You can't control other people, and some power or right shouldn't be given to you just because you're a minority.

Sorry, but here we have a little thing called separation of church and state.

I'll bet the liberals are glad to see you drank the Kool-aid. We don't have separation of religious concepts and state. We merely have a constitutional amendment guaranteeing that the government may not Establish a religion. That means forcing people to worship in a specific way (i.e. declaring the nation Catholic or Anglican or Muslim, and requiring everyone to pray to Allah). That has nothing at all to do with making it illegal to have laws that happen to coincide with religious standpoints. Murder is illegal, yet not every person agrees on that, and many are against murder for religious reasons. Some feel that it is their religious right to murder.

If you take out anything that could be construed as religous from law, you will have anarchy.

yeah....there is the point that murder, rape, theft, etc. laws are based on religion.

The difference between those and something like gay marriage, is that murder, rape, theft etc. hurt an outside party. Gay marriage only concerns the parties involved.

I know you are, I'm just stating the flaw in using the religion theory. For instance in the bible it's okay to kill someone under certain circumstances (it may only be in the new testiment, I'm not sure.) but in law today it's basically wrong unless it's self defence. And even then it's wrong if they think you could have defended yourself without killing anyone.

yep. But big countries like France, UK, Canada, US, Germany, Russia.....laws are based on the bible and other sources. THe core human values which we hold to be human rights are based on the movement in religions, all different kinds of religions, that life is sacred, in many human life is more sacred than others (which is quite debateable, but I guess to humans, humans are more important than other creatures by virtue of being...human? I dunno, lol). If it weren't for religion, we wouldn't have these laws. Why is it wrong to kill someone other than in self defense?

Because it's forcing a choice you've made upon someone else and their life. You see, I believe that everything is one and the same. We are all Spirit and I believe in reincarnation, so killing something is basically just changing the state that it's in. Someone dying is not a horrible thing to me. But it's the choosing something life altering for someone else that I have a problem with.

that's YOUR belief, but it's not shared by many. Why do you hold this belief and why should you be able to force it on other people?

Because otherwise it hurts an outside party. I've already stated that. Without setting some ground rules innocent parties are hurt. But things like gay marriage only the couple being married can be hurt. (through divorce and if you believe in it, them going to Hell etc.) It is someone's life and if they wish to hurt themselves, why stop them? Homicide hurts someone who has not made the choice themselves, to be hurt.

yes, but that is just your opinion...the lives of other people have no value to many. Why should you infringe on what other people want to do? It is your beliefs.

Just like the anti-gay thing is a belief, many believe it's a detriment to society and hurts people. I dunno why, but they do. I'm just explaining why religion comes into play on your side as well as on the opposing side. Neither has any real basis; sure it's wrong to hurt a human, but why is that worse than hurting a head of lettuce? That's all humans are worth to some people. It's a belief. To you, all of your beliefs are obviously moral and right. To them the same applies.
