Well it appears our good ole Osama is still alive and well, he's even offered a truce if we pull out of Iraq and Afganistan (sorry if this is mispelled). I'm sure some of you left-wing members will most likely push for this truce.

What have we taught you about assuming things? rolleyes
Going into Iraq was a mistake. It was poorly thought-out with bullshit reasoning, and Bush should be held accountable.
But now that we have toppled their government and made a big mess of most of the country, pulling out prematurely is one of the worst ideas I've heard offered up yet. If we just leave, the place is ripe for civil war, for insurgents to take over the country. They can't fix themselves right now. As much as I think we have no business being there, now that we are, we can't just go, "Kay, well, that was fun... look over there!" and run home.

The interesting thing about torture. Y'know it's illegal under both US and international law? That's why Gitmo was in Cuba, and all. Trying to get it outside US legal jurisdiction. Didn't work.
only because it was decided by the US supreme court that it was still in US jurisdiction it was decided that no forms of torture may go on there.
But I agree with both Drewser and Pimpkiller that sleep depravation and other psychological techniques should not be prohibited. Also there are worse things besides punching and kicking that we already do. But as far as full blown tourture we should leave that to the pros, our Arab, and Persian allies in the fight.

Not t' mention, th'elder Bush closed the blinds on the massacres of the Shi'ites, but hey. Any metaphor in a storm, right?
it was the kurds and they are sunni.

I mean the revolt. The one that the US fostered. In 1991.

The one that produced most of those mass graves. Which were not, one might be surprised to understand, do not much contain Kurds - Hussein is Hussein, not Hitler; his killings are brutal, but pragmatic. During the Iran-Iraq War, he considered the Kurds a threat; during the Shia revolt, he considered Shi'ites a threat.

Being a dictator and all, he makes demonstrations for people who make themselves threats to his power.
