Noting the girl's speechlessness and unsure how to continue on Jon tried again to put all of the feeling he had into words, "Mori I can't promise you perfection. From what you've seen of me you know that I am anything but. I can't promise you a worry free life or one without labor. I can promise you that I am willing to make what ever sacrifices it takes to be with you and to be there for you. If I have to I will proclaim my love for you to the mountains and beseech them to move. I will beckon life to spring from the wastelands of the dessert and for the waves of the ocean to stop all together. All in your name. There are a million things I could do for you and if doing every single one of them means that I am permitted to be with you for all eternity, I will do every single one of them." He paused for a moment, "I've been with other women before and none of them have been to me what you are. I don't want Nemo's harem of lust and canal desire. I want you and only you. Your love is more than enough to satisfy."

It took her a moment to absorb what he was saying, even as she fought her tears. Finally, she gathered her courage and whispered her fears brokenly, "...and when I am not enough anymore? I'm so afraid... So afraid I'll disappoint you, or you'll grow tired of me... You heard Oberon. I'm not aging, Jon, not changing. You'll grow bored of it, of me, soon enough... I couldn't bare you leaving me for that, or worse... staying with me out of obligation, out of some sense of honor..." Never had she voiced her fears over anything to anyone. Fears could be turned against her by cruel people wishing to do her harm but not wanting to risk stirring her powers. Telling such worries to someone, for Mori, was the ultimate act of trust.

Jon wiped some of the tears from her cheeks with his finger, "Whether you ever age or not doesn't matter. I could never grow bored of you or even want to leave you for another. Mori you are the one. The one woman in this world I want to spend every day and every hour with. You're the one person in this world who makes me feel whole, like I actually matter." he couldn't give this up; wouldn't give this up. To even think of her as a burden would be a sin against nature. In Jon's life she made sense more than anything else.

"Jon... I..." Mori was unable to figure out what to say. He had just quietly answered every fear she had, reassuring her that they were all unnecessary. Meeting his eyes with hers as the last of the burgundy faded, she saw the steadiness and surety she had come to associate with him. "I'm afraid..." she finally whispered. "This is so strong between us... I don't think I could survive without you anymore..." The last few moments were proof of that. The young half-demon had come dangerously close to dying to escape the pain of possibly being without him.

"I'll tell you what." a soft clarity reigned throughout his voice. It was hard to believe what he was about to suggest but he found that they were already so close that it should have been done any way, "After we get all of tis Oberron Mess cleaned up, how about we..." He found the words stuck in his throat. He took a breath and tried to start over, "Let's..." No they wouldn't come out that time either. His hands began to shake slightly as fear creapt through his spine, fear of rejection, "Would you consider.. getting married to this poor b*****d." The words came out but his fear didn't. It felt as if time had stopped. Suddenly it seemed like his heart beat was the loudest thing in the room.

(Three words: Holy. Flying. Penquins. eek )

Mori felt her heart jump into her throat, and her eyes grew wide as she stared at him in amazement. Had he...? Did he just ask...? It took her a moment to compose herself, feeling dazed while at the same time completely overjoyed and overwhelmed. Never had she thought to find a mate, whether human, demon, or other. She had always been so sure that she would always be alone. But Jon had torn through that certainty like a dagger through thin cotton, and she had a chance at something she thought impossible. Finally, she whispered, feeling shy though completely sure for possibly the first time in her life, "Yes... If you really want to marry a demi-suri..."

(Take that doubts. Oh s**t Yata...)

Yes? That was a yes, right? His ears hadn't misheard and his eyes hadn't mis interpreted what he had just seen? Yeah that was a yes. A smile crept across Jon's lips and the trembling ceased, "Whether you're suri, demi-suri, or human doesn't matter to me,. It doesn't change who you are on the inside." He pulled Mori into his embrace un afraid of anything that could happen to them now, she was his and he was hers now no matter what anyone said.

(Huh??? confused )

Snuggling as close to Jon as possible, Mori felt tears forming again. This time, though, they were tears of joy. Never had she imagined this for herself, not in all her years of living. Yet here she was, with a man that loved for who and despite what she was, finding something that made her worthy in his eyes. Perhaps she wasn't in Nayru's shadow, as she always feared. "Oberon once called you my aliluna..." she whispered quietly. "Who knew that he was right, though neither of us were ready for it yet?"

(Yata apparently thinks of Mori as a daughter, and this happens right as he is about to make a come back.)

"No he was wrong, you have a choice. If we were betrothed you wouldn't." Jon thought that maybe Mori was more fortunate than the full demons in that aspect. He laughed a little but, "How are we going to tell the captain, you know she wants to know everything that goes on among her troops. I'm not so sure that she'll be all that surprised though."

( rofl )

Mori made a face at the thought of telling the captain, but she twisted the problem around in her mind for a moment. There were, to her knowledge, two very subtle ways of going about to reveal an engagement. In her village, in the rare occasion that a girl didn't have an aliluna, through misfortune of some sort, and a boy proposed, or when an aliluna wished to take his charge as his wife, a ring was formed, either of metal wires, usually silver, or dyed silk, usually white, and the girl wore it on her left hand where the wedding band would eventually go. With demons... Well, it wasn't an option in her mind. She had enough markings, and if she remembered right, she had at least one more to gain. Instead, she said softly, "A promise ring is how it was done where I grew up... It attracted attention because it was somewhere where nothing should be or had been before, so people caught the difference immediately. The metal or silk being pale silver or white made it clear that it was an engagement, not a marriage, and most questions were avoided."

(yeah exactly what I was thinking)

Jon backed away a little bit and thought, "Well I don't have anything here like that, but if you wanted to we could go down to the port market and find something suitable for you. It isn't a bad idea and it leaves little explanation so that would probably do rather well." Jon was still all smiles as he looked into Mori's eyes deeply and lost himself in them. Nothing could ruin this moment for Jon, nothing. He knew that he had wanted something to proclaim that she was his and this seemed like the best idea to do so.

(I smell the "I want grandbabies" talk coming...)

Smiling slightly as well, she nodded in agreement. However, a blush instantly crossed her cheeks as she realized that she was quite intimately pressed against him, still in her night clothes that felt far too revealing at the moment, more so than even her dress simply because these were what she always slept in, a part of her normal life. Her ears twitched slightly, her hearing slightly more sensative than normal because of her near death experience. Mori could hear his heartbeat from where she was at, the soothing rhythm comforting to her on an instinctual level. The characteristic faint shimmer in her garnets was finally returning to its usual strength as she continued to recover from diving so deep into herself.

Jon was pleased to see that she agreed with the idea of going to the market later. Meanwhile he just held her. Her warmth yet again penetrated him.He took in a deep breath through his nose and inhaled her scent. "Are you feeling better now?" He couldn't help but wonder, "I mean earlier with the whole sleeping thing. I know that that wasn't a normal sleep, you almost seemed dead. I thought for a second that I had lost you forever." He kissed her head softly. He was more worried about her health after that event more than anything else. All other fears were far behind him now.

"I... I'm honestly not sure what I did..." she admitted somewhat reluctantly. "It hurt, trying to let you go, so I tried to escape from the pain. There, while it didn't necessarily hurt, it didn't feel anything else either..." Her memories of being in that place were vague and confusing. For a moment, she had thought the moon was speaking to her, as if Nayru was right at hand. Now, however, she knew that it was actually the captain who called her back. "I feel better, I think." There was an odd feeling in her legs. She hoped this wasn't going to be like when she found out Yata died; not being able to walk on her own very well had been embarrassing.

(oo they made me master carpenter for romeo and juliet and I'm a freshman)

"You think?" Jon wasn't sure if he liked the way that last part sounded. It made it sound like there was something that she either didn't want to tell him was wrong or that she wasn't certain was wrong. He didn't want to press it though, "Well it should all be well over time, maybe I should let you get back to your rest, real rest not that near death stuff."
