Not too far from Hrothgar's grill pit, Kujaku shifted his head as he was stretching the freshly salted pelt and staking it so it could dry. "Hmm?" He hadn't heard anything suspicious so he shrugged in response to Hrothgar's question. He glanced up at the sky, but it was still fairly bright and clear. It didn't sound like anything was going on, but for a more extensive answer, Kujaku knew what to do. He was a bit occupied at the moment and wasn't interested in performing a calling ritual to consult the spirits.

Nothin huh? "Great. I must be losing it.", Hrothgar muttered and shook his head as he walked over past Kujaku to the slaughter house. Since Kujaku didn't hear anything and Obsidion didn't react to anything, Hrothgar figured it was all in his own head. As he entered the slaughter house he collected a cleaver from the suspended tools and began to cut up the freshly skinned meat of the carcass.

((Perhaps we should fast track this.))

Since they weren't traveling, Kujaku took the down time they had to take a breather. He took some water from the well pump near the barn, and used it to get some of the copious amounts of blood off of his axe and his leg guards.

After not being a complete mess anymore, he kicked in the back wall of the barn, sending many of the remaining animals stampeding out the open front doors. It may have seemed humane at first, but these were domestic stock he had just set free, they'd likely just get hunted upon by local predators and monsters. Still, there was little else he and Hrothgar could have done for them besides releasing them into the wild.

He spent the remainder of that afternoon with a mix of relaxing and rummaging through the possessions of the conquered residents, and every so often consulting with Obsidion to see if it had seen anything suspicious.

After finishing up cutting and sorting meat, Hrothgar threw some seasoned steaks on the grill he set up and gripped some of the firewood, igniting it with intense temperature and leaving the grill fire to do its thing.

Following suit with Kujaku, Hrothgar went over to the water pump and tossed some water onto his axe and wiped it down with a rag to clean the edge of the blood accumulated from the last few raids. Once cleaned, Hrothgar stuck his axe back on his harness and switched it for his hammer. The stone face of the hammer was still searing hot but never seemed to affect Hrothgar's skin when he touched it. The blood that would spatter on the hammer must have burned off. The wooden haft was unaffected by the heat of the hammer head as well, and through all that smashing and breaking things, the haft wasn't splintered or showing any signs of wearing.

In the periodic trips to the grill to rotate the steaks and form stone plates to shelter them and cook them evenly, Hrothgar thought about why exactly Smoldar had given him that hammer.

Once the food was ready, Hrothgar gave a quick shout, figuring Kujaku was in range before he ate and went about whiling away the rest of the day.

Kujaku woke up the following morning as light from the sun started to reach his head under the shelter of the busted house and the furs he used to cover himself. He sat up and took a second to pick something out of his ear as he grumbled. The sun was clearly rising above the horizon. He stood up and approached Hrothgar to nudge him a few times. "It Morning. Get up!"

Hrothgar flopped sideways, stirring before he sat up. Kujaku was there. Obsidion looked to be sitting in the exact same position Hrothgar remembered before going to sleep, but now it was a rising sun beyond rather than the star blanketed sky. After running his forearm across his eyes, Hrothgar stood up and stretched. "All quiet still, huh?" he grumbled, still waking up. "It's like nobody's even here."

Approaching a low human table, Hrothgar collected his shirt and harness, putting them back on then looking back over toward the makeshift grill.

Obsidion remained still, seated and facing in the direction of the sun.

Kujaku stepped across the open house area of temporary shelter to collect his things, "Me speak to spirits. They say, humans occupied by big town event. They be busy for days, maybe weeks." Kujaku nodded contently. "We smash up and go?", He asked gesturing to the makeshift shelter they had used, and the remaining buildings that stood standing. He had a particular enjoyment for smashing things but mostly had figured that this was a necessary step to cover their tracks before they proceed on their trip.

Hrothgar took a moment to stretch his legs and elbows and wear away the sleep a bit more before walking over to his stoneware grill. He opened it and took one of the remaining scraps of grilled meat and bit onto it, holding it there before taking his Hammer from over his shoulder. "Ok. Lets get started", he said through his teeth before eating and walking toward a farther house. Since nobody had noticed, he wasn't in a big hurry, but wanting to savor the rest of his time at this ruined hamlet and enjoy his handiwork.

On command, or at least having heard to get started, Obsidion turned and immediately began clobbering through the house it sat by all night. It clubbed walls with its arms, punched and pounded at the roof, and stomped its way through the lower walls and floor.

Feeling a bit rambunctious, Kujaku decided to let loose as he focused on crushing the barn first. He let out a chilling war cry and raised his axe above his head before tapping the base of the handle against the ground. Though the tap was gentle, the resulting rumble was quite fierce, forging a three pronged rift beneath the barn and sending it collapsing into the hole. He cheered loudly and pulled his mask down before leveling his gaze at the next building. His axe gained a faint glow of energy as he prepared local spirit energy for an offensive strike.

Stopping for a moment, Hrothgar counted out the piles of rubble, skipping over the building closest to Kujaku. Since there was one left beside Kujaku's current target, Hrothgar approached it and slammed his hammer into the ground next to it. Fissures branched out like tree roots across the ground beneath the structure, fracturing the ground below and creating a sinkhole for the building to collapse into. Kujaku was likely to finish up fairly quickly, so Hrothgar plodded over to his extra loot and the grill, harvested the bag of loot then waited by the grill to watch Kujaku's handiwork in action.

The blade of Kujaku's axe burned with a fire of wailing souls, creating an aberrant howling noise as he cleaved through the last standing house. As he finished the first swing, he shifted the axe above his head and brought it down at an opposite incline completing a cross slash and shattering down the upper section of the house into the floor. What stood ahead was a pile of rubble with a low but fairly cleanly cut outer wall in a triangular point shape.

Kujaku grinned and turned to start toward Hrothgar. "Ok, that fun. We go.", he grinned.

Hrothgar rolled his shoulder to work a few sleeping kinks out of it before starting toward the open road. "Alright then. Lets finish our little mountain run. We should be reaching the halfway point in no time." He nodded as he picked up his walking pace to a jog. Now that it was daybreak, they had nothing but time.

Obsidion brought up the back end of the trail, picking up its pace to avoid falling behind the pack. As they reached the open road, the gravel below rattled a bit like a dull drum as Obsidion took step after step.

Kujaku hurried up to a jog to catch up and keep pace with Hrothgar. The bit of exercise and seeing the mountain countryside blow by was fairly refreshing. He hadn't actually paused to enjoy the foothills since he had left the jungle until now. Since he also began to wonder, he turned to ask Hrothgar. "Hey, what you think happened to keep everyone at castle?"

Between breaths and jogging paces, Hrothgar trailed ahead and answered Kujaku, "Beats me, maybe the king was feeling lonely." He shook his head, "I can't believe I used to keep up with nobility crap like that. Look what it gets me. The royals don't give a rats a** about anybody on the lower rungs, treat the backbone of society and the economy like tools, and now my hometown and most of the farmland burned down." This oddly didn't bother Hrothgar that much, but his loyalty to the crown was questionable from the beginning. The past month might have just been the straw to break the camel's back.

Kujaku looked down at the ground briefly remembering what he had failed to stop back in the farmlands. He shook his head and grunted, feeling that maybe it wasn't his fault. "Me from separated. Me great shaman back in village, but out here, me bottom rung. Me and most separated. Separated not closely link with rest of earth nation. And how? Separated care for people of all place. Caste system loose, not isolate people."

Rather than get carried away on a tangent about how much he disliked non-Separated Seg people and particularly selfish nobles, He shook his head and went to change the subject. "What we do about refuge? Survivors not going to live there forever."
