Tall ships have masts and you can see around them and in between. On a ship like the Titanic, it's like there's a gigantic house on top of it. Besides it was enormous and most cruise liners these days are bigger than most tall ships.

Here, I just started creating this site - http://www.freewebs.com/maj-tallships/

The branch handbook has arrived and I am already researching places where the ships can get to in East Anglia.

Hey Mel! Is that handbook a thick or a thin one? I wanna know if it's gonna take you a while to read or what...

Fairly thin really. Most of it is straight forward and common sense.

smile It strikes me that common sense would be a definite plus when dealing with the ocean and a very large ship. *grins*

Cool to know Mel! It won't take you long to read then...

Say, I just saw a small article about pirate ships and how they were divided. Do you think most tall ships had similar compartments inside of them? I wish I could see a chart but I have no idea where to find it.

I sail on the ships, but that isn't my job. My job is to publicise, support, and fundraise for them. Unfortunately, it's voluntary and I don't get paid for it. Perhaps I might find a paid job in that area in the near future...I hope I do.

The branch manual highlights the dos and dont's and other guidelines when it comes to legal matters and the likes.

Think of the position in terms of a future resume/CV document for job searches or university entrance essays and applications. A job is a job, whether you get paid or not; to work hard at something even though you don't get paid is a very important point of reference for most university entrance people and hiring managers.

Write up a list of all the stuff you do for the group--whatever it is. Then couch it in terms of regular job speak. Publicising, support functions, fund-raising, public speaking, group management--these are all easily translatable into jobs in museums, offices, even the government. It's all good! smile

Well I'm thinking of going to a business seminar. There are free ones with a particular company so I've been told. I want to see if I might be able to turn it into something in the future.

Carefull about those free buisness seminars... they will usually try to sell you something - Have you gone to craigslist (tis FREE!) to see if there is anything open at a museum near you?! That's how I got my museum job - and *crosses her fingers* I'll be a research assistant soon!

Good Luck!
