Have you gone apartment hunting often in the past? Have you checked the water pressure in the shower(s)? I would sometimes forget that, and one time we ended up renting a place with crappy water pressure. People don't often think about checking that before renting.

Ah, the only not-so-good thing about renting during this time is that summer tends to be the most expensive time of the year. It's popular for moving. Prices tend to be lower in November or December.

Hmm, I didn't even think to check water pressure. This is the first time I've really gone apartment hunting before, and I'm going all out. I've seen about... 8 or 9 places so far. I found two that I really really really like, and I'm gonna schedule an appointment so my babe can see, too. He didn't come with me while I was hunting, 'cause if I don't like it, then why bother him with it? Hahahaha.

The ones I want are right next to work, and I could walk less than half a block to go into work each day. 3nodding And they're huge and they've got a fireplace!

Amy: Oh, yeah, you should go back and check, if you can. Check inside fridges, dishwashers, check under sinks, take pictures of EVERYTHING. Also, when you decide on a place, take pictures within the first week or two, and upload them somewhere. You don't usually notice the flaws--cracked walls or chipped paint, dents on corners--until you've been in the place for a week. Then, take pictures, so that way when/if you go to move out and the apartment manager says, "Hey, this corner is cracked, you gotta pay for that" you can show him the pictures (and their timestamps, or like on the website where you uploaded them it'll say "added on xxx2014") to prove that, hey, this flaw was here before you moved in.

Good places to really look out for are around windows and doors (see if there are any cracks and if the screens fit properly) and anywhere that sees water on a regular basis--bathrooms, sinks, kitchens. Check the caulking, look under the sinks and check pipes to see if there's water damage or not, see if the drawers are warped. Also good to think about ventilation, and if the bathrooms will be able to air out well after you shower. Don't want mold to grow.

Ugh, driving interview over. Now I just have to wait for them to call me back to make an appointment for the written and actual driving tests. Japan, why are you so complicated. =_=

Side note, trying to do the whole "online banking" thing is a TOTAL pain in the butt here. First off, the bank is only open from like 9 to 3 M-F, so you have to take the morning off of work. Then you have to go into the bank, fill out some forms, create a password, and then they'll mail you some more forms with a second password created by them. And then you have to go online and make up a username and stuff.
