It is a hassle. Don't bother. I'm not going to, anymore. Relationships are for people with weird emotional needs and too much time on their hands.
He could just as easily turn the pepper spray back on you. I always say, learning how to knife fight is one of the most important skills one can acquire in life. If every rape victim carried a knife and knew how to use it, the rape statistics would go down considerably. : P

Yeah, I've really wanted to learn some good fighting skills lately. Apparently my parents wanted to enroll me in martial arts classes when I was little but I insisted on dance. -__-
lol It's never too late. XD What kind are you interested in?

Uh... the kind that allows me to kick a** easily? eek I'm not very well-versed in the different styles, if you hadn't noticed already. sweatdrop
MMA, Muay Thai, or Jiu Jitsu. I've also heard Krav Maga's decent, if you're interested in practical self-defense focused on fighting an armed opponent while unarmed.

Oh yeah, practicality would definitely be preferred. The last one sounds the most useful. 3nodding
They're all useful. That's why I recommended them. I just added Krav Maga at the end because, as I don't know much about it, I can't really recommend it. I just heard it was good and among the variety that you're looking for. My favorite of the bunch would definitely be Muay Thai. (It's one of the most, for lack of a better term, hardcore martial arts out there.) But there are an obnoxious number of people who'd swear their mothers life by MMA. (It's the one to learn if all you wanna do is beat the living s**t out of people. Not much of an art form, but highly effective.) And Jui Jitsu is what the US army teaches recruits. (Mostly grapling, good for smaller fighters going against bigger opponents.)

Also Liz, are you by chance a Satanist?
pfffffffffftHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA rofl What do you take me for? xd

I was bored and decided to go to the Church of Satan's website, but I had a feeling you wouldn't buy in to the pretentiousness despite similar philosophies. : P
Satanists are pathetic, whiny, weak, childish, imbecilic lemmings. And as far as I'm aware, we do not share similar philosophies. The only spiritual doctrine with which I have ever felt kinship is Taoism. Though I don't identify as a Taoist. I merely respect and relate to the outlook.

Well, they certainly seem slightly hypocritical. Maybe I'm just saying you have similar philosophies because you're both libertarian. : P Sorry.
OooOooOOoo Taoism, which like many Anglicized Chinese words, does not reflect phonetically the word in Mandarin. Yin yang! Laozi! There's a teahouse in Beijing named after him. 3nodding
So I've heard. XD But as I haven't started learning Chinese yet (it's definitely in my immediate plans), I'm not going to presume to be anything other than a dumb westerner, and continue to use the anglicized version. : P

I took a quick look at the Wikipedia article for Krav Maga, apparently it was derived from street fighting in Jewish quarters against fascists. 3nodding Of course, it's used by the Israeli Defence Forces.. It has elements of jiu-jitsu and muay thai, and it seems like the only one that was formulated with real life confrontations in mind.
MMA is fun to watch, not sure if it'd be actually useful in real life. sweatdrop

Daoism would be more accurate, and it's used sometimes instead of Taoism as well. 3nodding It's okay, I forgive you, if you use the actual phonetic spelling 90% of non-Chinese speakers will have no idea what you're talking about.

Pretty much all martial arts are formulated with real life confrontations in mind. The ones that aren't, are not real martial arts, as far as I'm concerned. Just a dance. Obviously some do it better than others. MMA also has elements of Jiu Jitsu and Muay Thai. If you put an MMA fighter up against a Krav Maga fighter, my money will always be on the MMAer. However, if either one got ambushed by someone with a gun, the Krav Maga fighter would have the advantage. It really just depends on what kind of attacks you think it's most important to be able to defend yourself against. Personally, I intend to learn both eventually. But whatever floats your boat.

I agree, it depends on who attacks you. But I think I'm more likely to be attacked by someone with a gun with little to no formal martial arts training than an MMAer. Of course, it'd be ideal to learn everything, so...

I only meant that MMA is better in hand-to-hand combat against anyone, and generally the superior martial art, but Krav Maga has its advantages, because it's more specialized.
