Sumeria is part of Mesopotamia.

Sure, I'm cool with wherever you originate your characters from.

Ah, yeah. Now I know what you mean. Yes, they wouldn't care about the individual.
PostPosted: Sat Apr 09, 2011 8:31 pm

...Yeah but I thought the Sumerian civilization was before the Mesopotamian. Also I thought Meso was on like a pennisula or something near the Eu...Euphrey...That river is ancient times that began with an "E" and ended with what sounded like "Es" Kind of like the end of Haiti.

How does that answer if Aztec or Mayan is older? That aside did we decide on what way we'd be doing it? Pms and word, or 1x1 forum?

Exactly...though some of the younger ones might care. Not sure about the sole middle guy. He could probably play favourites.

Euphrates? Sumeria is definitely part of Mesopotamia. I used to love it because it and Nubia because they predated Egyptian civilisation. I can find the Epic of Gilgamesh if you're interested. It's very repetitive.

Oh, it's a question. I don't know I'm sorry. I've never studied them.

You mean the vampire council member? I imagine he/she was appointed because he's the oldest vampire and leader of the vampiric court. He'd show favouritism towards vampiric wants and needs. What I meant by middle guy is that he's on the vampiric court and Die Synode, which would mean he speaks to both.

Yeah that river, wasn't Mesopotamia's center near that river or whatever it is?

...Wait I forgot about Incan.

-waves hands about- No no no! I got that figured out already and the person that's in the council and covenant is one of the older members. I meant age wise. You have three young member, three old member...than the one that's in the middle. Silly.

Mesopotamia means "between two rivers" but it would be illogical to say that they didn't build on the outer sides of the river too. Sumeria was... on the southern side of the area?

Ohhh. I thought it might be the oldest of each race.
PostPosted: Sat Apr 09, 2011 9:17 pm

I see well maybe Sumeria rose up and started a civ in ancient times...something happened, then Mesopotamia came out of it? Could work, I guess though prove me wrong XP

AHAHAHAHAHA Divines no! If only the oldest were on the council, it'd be mired in traditionalist bullshit and other hooey that'd bring teh races demise to a slow painful end. No it's who's likely the most suited, and has proven themselves. Sure they might all seem old when compared next to each other, but...I kind of want to say it varies between race. Like the gnome member might be in his midlife, same with Aysel...-snaps fingers- That could be her problem. She's having a mid/three-quarter millennium crisis.

Riiight...*hasn't been paying attention*

I shall post and whatnot in a few weeks probably. Sorry...

You know how much I'd love to discuss stuff... but right now I have to get ready for work. sweatdrop I'll be back in a few hours, or whenever I finish.

Phew. How do they prove themselves? Does species play a factor? Democracy sucks and having the other council members vote would lead way to corruption faster than I can think of a metaphor for.

Coolio. Have fun posting. There's really no rush. I still have to fnish my last post.

I know~ And I think I got the three oldest members, though I still have to look up Ancient China. Either way it's going to be Mesopotamia, then...probably Egypt...followed by someone from Pre-classical Mayan civilization. If China's older than Egypt, I'll probably throw out Egypt since there's already someone from the mideast.

...Hmm I gotta imagine that life-span would be the greatest factor, and that Betel since he's the founder, he has tremendous say in it. I guess species might play a factor, but it'd be more for opinions. I kinda think of it as a tribunal in most cases. Aysel, the gnome, and Betel/Nasir have the most responsibility while the Succubus and the other guy are like underlings. True, about possible corruption, but that's why I was leaning toward a tribunal of the three oldest. PLus can you really see three people who'd probably value self-reliance as one of the top three traits to take bribes?

Yes do try not to feel stressed or pressured in any way Alykia, when it comes to this.

-Slams fists down on table- ******** a duck!! ...So apparently Betelgeuse is one...of the younger Vampires. Not what I was expecting.

...Anway since I figured out the court/covenant's ages I figured I'd write it down. Well the main seven members...not the stenographer or the barista? Using the term court for vampires makes me think of literal court.

Eldest: Mesopotamian; 5919
Egypt; 5171
China; 4213
Middle: Mayan; 2817
Betelgeuse/Nasir: Byzantine; 1558
Ottoman; 812
Youngest: Aztec; 684

I'm still sure Sumeria was part of Mesopotamia. The Sumerians were overthrown though... and... assimilated into Amorite culture. Don't quote me on this. It's been ages.

Damnit, you posted before I did... oh well.

*snickers* I have a vampy I could throw in (or three) at some point. Actually, Devoiah would have died by now and Catriona would have become a hermit. Vivian/Victor (male) would be happy with hiding.

I believe that's how they were run originally... in pre-Dracula fiction.

Woah, crazy Chinese Emperor dude!

Oh yeah. The Epic of Gilgamesh mentions and discusses the great flood, as in the one stolen by the Christian Bible. Should we throw that in? Actually, can I have the Mesopotamian/Sumerian?
PostPosted: Sun Apr 10, 2011 12:01 am

You were right...Sumeria is a section/province within Mesopotamia.

-giggles- Honey the four oldest are the closest things to hermits the Covenant has or will. Sure Catriona and or Vivian/Victor could be I guess. They could probably be stenographer or Barista if I can't think of anything else.

Pre-dracula what? Oh the court thing? Eh I just don't like that term, a Covenant sounds neater and sort of hints at what the organization actually is.

Oddly enough that was very easy to find. Haven't figured out a name. I'm thinking On Xia or Tao Xia or possibly and perhaps redundantly Zhi Xia for the chinaman.

I guess we could and what do you mean by have? Like use him? I guess it'd be okay. I still need a picture and a decision on whether his name should be Aziz or Zarek. I was leaning toward Zarek since Persians could probably be traced back to Mesopotamia...and that he probably forgot his original name. So he adopted a Persian one.

You do understand that he'd be the most monstrous one. I'm not even sure how to imagine him. I kind of want to say he'd be like that Vampire elder in Blade 2 but...much less human. Possibly something like this Unless you can find something better.

Oh I had an idea while looking for picture. What if, stay with me here...What if over time, you following me...over time, Vampirism, Ra are you listening?...affected everyone differently!

If Caitriona is there, she would be a leader of something, so I can just not use her. Vivian/Victor would make a good stenographer. Barista? Do you mean a coffee maker, a lawyer or something different? I don't see how either would be part of the council.

I understand, court was has been taken out of vampire lore because of mainstream culture rapage. I'm not surprised you don't like it. Sure, we can use covenant. Court is just the correct word to use as a plural noun. Coven is short for covenant, which is what witches have.

What attributes are we saying vampires have: bat wings, bat shape-shifting, general shape shifting *winces*, death by sunlight, aversion to sunlight, death by garlic, death by crucifix, aversion to crucifixes, version to churches, aversion to bells, must count spilled beans (and other things), can only drink human blood, aversion to angelic, in league with witches, creation by suicide or other violent deaths, possession, sleep in graves, become corpses during the day, not coming out on Saturdays ... ... etc ?

Nice name. Tao Xia sounds good.

I meant create him. I believe you've created every single Synode councilman.

Not nessecarily. Age and monstrosity do not go hand in hand. Elves get more refined as they get older. The picture looks cool though.

rolleyes

I'm listening. It makes sense too, it could be a reason why accounts on vampires are so varied... along with the people creating fake descriptions of what vampires are.

Bodyguard or whatever you suggested in addition to what became the stenographer. Sure we can use Court...I just have to get used to the word is all. I could see a newling(?) who's just been turned asking about why it's called a court and not something cooler, then the older vampires (that have been around for more than a century) get all disgusted/pissed by the newling's idiocy.

...Eh I was thinking sort of the more modern things. Like enchanced strength, enchanced/peaked speed, aversion to light depending on how it affects you. All from slight itch/feel slightly hotter than those around you...to bursting into flames. Crucifixes and the church thing are just myths since they've been around before Christ. Most of the bottom half is just superstition since they've had to survive on whatever they could get for centuries at a time. Not sure about the process of being changed. I wanna say bitten, but I also wanna say that there's a random chance that it'll happen if they survive.

Tao Xia it is.

...No I haven't. Betel and Aysel are the only two ones I feel comfortable with. The gnome possibly but he'd be more of a joke. And this is the Vampire court, not the Midnight Council. Betel's the only vampire I'll be indirectly using in my part. The age and race/lineage thing was only so that they could be called Elders. I kind of left it open on there gender and name...well cept Betel and Xia. Though if I could add one more thing it'd be making the egyptian a female vampire.

Niether does beauty. By monstrous I should've said that his humanity has left him as he's pretty much emotionally dead...or just really distant/apathetic towards others. Though I thought it'd....just be sort of symbolic if he didn't look human since let's say that his vampiric difference was that. Then again, something that appears human could probably perturb more people than something that doesn't.

Oh goody though it doesn't become apparent until...like after their first millennium. Meaning the Ottoman and Aztec elders are still waiting on their manifestation. I kind of figured out Betel's...possibly not sure.

Ya, bodyguard is a close enough description. Okay, Court it is.

*shrugs* Most of the stuff is pre-Dracula lore rather than superstition. Again, pop culture ruined a lot of mythological beings. It was what made vampires stand out from other evil creatures but... *sigh* Twilight. I thought the Christian stuff would have more to do with holy or sacred places rather than Christianity itself. Eg. a statue of the Mother Goddess would do the same as a crucifix.

Bitten isn't the only way of becoming a vampire. Traumatic births, traumatic deaths, adultery and suicides were all related to vampirism.

So which elders have you decided on so far? Why would the gnome be a joke?

Just making sure... in collab fic, nobody controls certain characters. All characters are open for use by everyone involved.

That paragraph (monstrous) confuses me.

Manifestation? You mean they have different powers? I would have their powers manifest earlier, especially as we only have 100 left.
