When Ater next woke up he found he had been sat up in his bed and was being sponged down. Though his mind felt a tad better now it immediately began to sulk. Great, he was so helpless right now he had to be sponge bathed to get all the blood and sweat off of him. That was just peachy, what was next, someone wiping his a** for him after he took a s**t? He didn't like the idea, it didn't seem natural to have someone else do that.
He could still feel various tubes sprouting from his arms, though this time he didn't have a tube rammed down his neck. Sitting there, his head down and hair covering his face he spoke as loudly as he could, which was barely above a whisper "Food." It was only one word, and even that hurt him. His head felt like it had been cracked open with something then put back together two sizes too small.
The nurse looked up, a surprised look on her face "Mr Vivin? You're awake?" her voice mimicked her look as the woman peered at him. Again Ater's demand was whispered as best it could be "Food." The woman's face whitened very quickly as she stood up, dropping her sponge and running from the room so fast she knocked over the small container of water she'd been using to wash him with.
Ater kept his eyes closed, the room was dim, but the woman had left the door open, and the light spilling in really burned his eyes. He must have been out a while. He remembered pieces, though the last thing he could really remember was they had just met another Turk on the stairs. After that things were a blur. He tried to focus on the swimming images and fractured voices, but it began to make his head ache.
Suddenly the room was abuzz with people in white coats, lights shone on him, what seemed to be a flimsy robe was moved around as cold metal disks were pressed to his skin. Each disk made him shiver. And each shiver caused a searing pain through his body. Didn't they have him doped up? What the hell were these people doing?
"Give.....us......food." He ground out the request, even managing through the pain and disorientation to make it up too three words as opposed to one, though they were all still whispered. This caused a re-newed bout of people in coats pressing disks to his body again. Fed up with it Ater changed his tactic "********......" He breathed heavily "...********." He felt proud to have pieced a sentence together. And he was even happier when the men left at this request, a small hushed huddle immediately taking place outside the door, blocking some of the light.
Unable to move his head Ater watched as best he could from the reflection off of one of the various monitors that had been hooked up to him. He felt better than before, though he knew he was going to be here a while.

It was morning and the sun had just peeked through the clouds for the morning, shining through her massive windows and white curtains she awoke.
While being caught up on her rest, hopped up on pills and finally starting to feel like herself. She woke up in her dorm opened the small orange container and popped the last two white little devil's into her mouth and took the glass at her bedside table. She wiped her mouth with her hand. She looked across the room at her uniform recently washed, ironed and hung up neatly.
She turned on the shower and quickly did her morning duties. Steam billowed out of the bathroom as she opened the door into her bedroom, covered by a dark red towel she reached for her clothes. The radio had gone off when she was in the shower. 'Looks like its going to be a sunny day for the new President's speech! Isn't that something to look forward too? On note traffic-'
She buttoned up her white shirt and tucked it in, tied her tie and applied her jacket to the uniform. She stood straight in front of her large bedroom mirror and examined herself. Washed and brushed hair, clean teeth trimmed nails and. 'What is that?' She picked a long white hair off of her uniform. '..Gross' and flushed it down the toilet. Wydda shuddered 'Blegh'.
Wydda took a deep breath and sorted some papers on her desk across from her bed and slipped them into a folder. She checked and loaded her pistol and then left to get an early start on her office work.

Looking in the mirror Ater straightened his tie. It was hard with only one hand, and it took a few minutes to get it presentable, but he was just glad it had never been untied. He sighed, looking at himself in the mirror still. He looked gaunt and drained. He'd only been out of the hospital ward a few hours now. Once they'd fixed up his arm all it took was a dose of painkillers to be prescribed and a recommendation of bed rest, then he was out of there. It wasn't like he'd been taken off duty, and even if he had been it wouldn't have mattered. He'd have just carried on anyways.
He looked down to his arm. The sleeves of his jacket and shirt had been pinned up to prevent them from catching on things since he no longer had a hand. It still shocked him. But after the stress he'd been through during the assault he hadn't the time to really think about how it would effect his life. Sighing again he absent mindedly brushed his hair back from his face. He really was a mess. All scars and scowl.
Moving away from the mirror he sat down on his bed, slouched over and leaning his elbows on his knees. Today was an important day. So many things had happened while his mind had been in various states of ******** up. But now things were changing, there was a new era beginning. And he was still alive to see how it was going to turn out.
Standing up slowly Ater picked up a pair of slim shades from his bedside table and slid them on. Taking one last look in the mirror, then around his room he gave a slight nod, his hand reaching out and picking up his staff before he walked from the room.
The lock clicked behind him as he stepped out into the corridor in his crisp uniform. This was going to be an interesting day.

Kim opened her eyes as the morning rays of the sun filtered through her window. She roughly rubbed her eyes and sat up stiffly on her already-made bed. 'Had I been so exhausted? She thought, pouting, I wish I had at least undressed.' She slowly pushed herself off the bed and gathered her bathing tools with the speed of a snail.
The warm water of the shower woke her up more than anything else could. As the droplets hit her weary body, she felt her famillar vigor start to return. She wrapped herself in a towel and returned to her room to change. The cool wind from the blowdryer dried her hair and she swiftly put it up in her trademark bun. After cleaning her dusty glassses, She pulled out a clean, ironed suit and dressed. Today should be fun,' Kim lazily thought, 'The President has his speech, and everything has returned to it's normal peace... at least for now. I wonder if the other Turks, Reno and the gang, have come back? I really do...'
In the midst of her musings, her stomach gave a loud, obnoxious rumble that startled her thoughts. She gently patted her stomach and walked over to the mini-fridge. She pulled out a bottle of orange juice and a pre-prepared bowl of cereal. She plopped down at her desk and hungrily ingested the simple breakfast. "I don't think..." Kim pondered out load, between chews"... my stomach could wait... for me to reach the company cafeteria... if it's even open..."
She cleaned up and checked herself one more time in the mirror. Her glasses were a little crooked- she'd have to get them fixed. Her hair looked almost presentable and there were dark circles that were present under her gray-blue eyes. "They'll go away with a full night's rest," She assured herself. All in all, she looked alright but her spirit was ready to face the day. She hoped no one would mention her raggedness.
"Well, here I go!"

Natsu's head had been pounding madly all the way from the top of the Shinra headquarters back to her Turk quarters, and it was still hammering away this morning. It felt as if someone had set the entirety of the Shinra Military Police on her cranium, stomping and stabbing it with small spears.
Somehow, she decided dully, she wouldn't put it past her new employer, master of grand speeches and underling torment.
She lay in bed for a while more, Turk suit feeling rather than looking horribly rumpled. Scowling and rising to look in the bedside mirror, she noted that she seemed all right, though her hair stuck up on one side and she felt her eyes throbbing very slightly, as if bruised a few days ago.
Still presentable. Just barely.
After indulging the vain side of her, Natsu somehow managed to lurch out of bed, grabbing the bedposts to steady herself. Ohh.
She grimaced, and remembered -- Sephiroth's return, the murder of Prez Shinra [1], Turks bleeding on the staircase. But then, she reassured herself dimly, last night's tumult wasn't that horrendous for me -- people got off worse...
Then she remembered something else: murder of President meant new President meant potential further tight-fistedness, meaning ... potential pay cut, and Neo-Turks didn't make much as it was.
The migraine intensified.

The rays of intense sunlight shining upon her face made her blink once, twice, sleepily. Her hand drifted up to her eyes as if trying to shoo the unwanted light away, and then they snapped open. Where..? The infirmary. She'd fallen asleep in a chair next to Ehren's bed. She glanced off to the side thoughtfully. It was such an impossibility. Sephiroth? If he was alive, then where had he been all these years?
Sighing, she rose slowly to her feet, her eyes probing the room. The other Turk that had been particularly injured--his name, she wasn't familiar with--was gone. Ehren, on the other hand, was still out unconscious on the bed next to her; the medics had told her last night that they had a shortage of type O blood, which naturally was Ehren's type. Universal donor, yes, but they could only accept blood from other O donors. Upon inquiry, she discovered that they'd had some delivered from a nearby hospital overnight, but they were keeping him until they could ascertain how he was taking it. Either way, he'd be fine now.
It was good to know. One less burden to trouble her mind, at the least. The idiot was always off doing something more dangerous than he needed to. Had he seen him? Sephiroth? Then again, who else could have left Ehren propped up against a wall in a pool of his own blood? He might not have been the strongest fighter, but he was certainly one of the most effective, one of the most ruthless; he knew how to get things done in a manner of his own choosing. Why, then, would he even have been fighting somebody so far out of his league?
Nothing makes sense anymore, she thought bitterly. Ehren was taking risks he didn't normally take, Sephiroth may or may not have been back from the dead, President Shinra was dead... What was going on with the world all of a sudden?
Her eyes narrowed as she thanked the medic currently on duty, and quickly exited the infirmary. She had some exploring to do, and she made her way to the elevator. Her finger hovered for a moment, hesitantly, above the button for the floor she knew she shouldn't go to, but had to, before coming down on it hard.
A few moments later she had arrived on the 48th floor--the tech department, and the location of the heart of the Shin-Ra mainframe.

Ater sat in the company cafeteria, staring blankly at his bowl. He'd ordered porridge. He was at a loss to remember why he wanted to eat anything that looked like a disease in edible form, but that wasn't stopping him. He'd calmly eaten about half his bowl, it was at least a good distraction and semi-healthy. The doctors had said he should be eating as much nutrition as he could while his arm recovered still. Even if they hadn't been happy about him leaving their care so soon.
Sighing he watched some of the goop drip back into the bowl before he took another mouthful. It was far to sweet. He'd added salt to it, but no matter how much he added it was still too damn sweet. He sighed again. Really he did feel a tad depressed, he was questioning himself now. Normally he would never do such a thing, but after the loss of his hand he kind of had to. Taking another mouthful of the porridge he began to look around. It seemed strange. Everybody around him was chatting and greeting their friends in the company. All Ater knew were Turks and more of the senior members of the company. Somehow he couldn't see himself sitting down with Heidegger or Palmer and having a friendly chat.

Kim's phone rang on her way to the company building, spewing the Turk theme song as loud as it could. It startled her at first, since she didn't expect to be getting a call from anyone. She lifted the phone and pressed it to her ear, "Hello, this is Kim."
"Kim? Oh, thank god I got a hold of you!"
"Dad?" Kim exclaimed, blinking.
"Of course it's me! I was watching the news all night, worried sick about you! Are you all right? Did those rebels touch you?"
"No, not at all, Dad. Just a few scratches, but I'm alright now. I'm just heading over to work now."
"Heh, sounds like I taught you well."
"Oh, so you're being cocky now?" Kim grinned.
"No! I just wanted to know that you were okay. You should have called me. You could have been dead and I wouldn't have even known."
"I know, I know." She sighed.
"Alright, I just wanted to make sure you were okay."
"Going so soon?"
"I have things to do. You just didn't call me."
"Alright Dad. I'll remember to call you next time."
"Good. Bye, Honey."
click
Kim sighed and put her phone away, rolling her eyes. That was her Dad: he never said much. He's always worried about her, but never likes to show it. Man, I feel like a high schooler. Didn't I grow out of the "have to call" stage.
She stepped into the building, greeting the unfriendly secretary at the front desk. She passed by many things, not really knowing where to go. There were construction signs all over, on every floor. She wondered if the offices were destroyed in the attack. Passing the cafeteria, which was still in good shape, she saw someone famillar. It was Ater, sitting by himself and eating breakfast. Kim smiled and walked over taking a seat across from him. "How are you doing?"

Raising a brow a little Ater looked up from his food and right at Kim, mildly surprised at the fact that somebody was speaking too him. It took him a moment to realise it was Kim that was speaking to him.
"Hanging in there we suppose." He took another spoonful of the porridge and sighed, finally breaking into the conversation proper. "This damn sweet s**t don't help though." He calmly pushed his bowl aside and placed his spoon down next to it so he could lean his elbows on the table, his hand rested over his stump and his chin on his hand as he looked at the girl. "And yourself? Guess you must have been a bit shaken by everything that happened here." He looked at her inquisitively.
It was true that the rebel attack had been thwarted, but then again since there had been no prior warning in any form the defence had pretty much been a shambles. He was surprised the building had been left standing at all after the massacre that had occurred.

"You look pretty good yourself," Kim smiled, sitting back in her chair. She paused for a second and then grinned, "But I expect that from you. I know by now that you can make it through anything."
Being put in a good mood made her do a weird thing: she took Ater's porridge and spoon and swirled the gunky contents as she continued to answer Ater. "I was a little shaken up, especially because it was a big suprise. Who was expecting it? I'm alright now, though. I think I was more concerned about everyone else's welfare instead of my own."
She spooned a big goop on the spoon and watched it flop back into the bowl.

"If it had been expected. We'd have killed a lot more people" he sighed "And maybe have kept our hand in the process." He slowly gave a dismissive shrug "But that's all over and done with now." He raised a brow at the girl playing with his food. He didn't say anything, he hadn't wanted anymore of the slop anyhow.
Yawning and stretching a little bit he sighed again before talking more "So, today is the speech, isn't it?" he knew it was, but then again he knew he wasn't going to be one of the closer guards now he had a handicap. Even if he could still take down most well trained fighters with one arm it was still tiring and a lot of hassle to do so. "Have you been assigned to anything to do with it? After all, we don't think that Rufus is going to go to Junon alone for a celebration with hundreds of potential assassins in the crowds." He chuckled lightly, some moron was bound to shout some anti-Shin-Ra slogans, or throw a brick. Hell, he even felt a slight pang of pity for anybody dumb enough to try and do so.

Kim shrugged, spooning some more muddy gunk into the spoon. "I haven't heard a thing yet. I wish I did though- I can't help but feel overprotective of the new president, you know? Plus, I'm so ready to kick the butt of anyone who tries to pull such a stunt. And, as you said, it will be very likely that such a thing will happen." She paused, pushing up her glasses and knitting her brow.
"Do you... " She trailed, her cheeks turning slightly pink, "...Do you think the other Turks will be there too? Tseng and the gang?"

Ater shrugged dismissively "Whether they're there or not doesn't matter to us really. What does matter is we do our job propperly and to the best of our abilities." He grinned a little bit, letting out a small chuckle "And since we are Turks, well, we shouldn't have any problems now. Should we?"
Just as he finished speaking Ater slowly pushed his chair back and stood up, his hand sliding into his pocket and pulling out his phone. It wasn't ringing, just vibrating. Calmly he pressed the button and held the phone to his ear. "Ater here. Yes. Alright. Understood." And with those few words he pressed the button again and re-added the phone to his jacket pocket as his eyes turned to Kim.
"We're sorry, we've got to go to the labs. Something's come up. Doesn't sound serious but we guess you can tag along if you want. Would save us having to call you when all the plans for the outing have been laid." Calmly he turned and began to slowly walk away towards the now working lifts. He wondered why they needed him upstairs.

Kim played with the slop some more while keeping her ears perked as Ater spoke brief words into his phone. He briskly hung up the phone and addressed her,
"We're sorry, we've got to go to the labs. Something's come up. Doesn't sound serious but we guess you can tag along if you want. Would save us having to call you when all the plans for the outing have been laid."
He got up and started to walk towards the lifts - it seemed to Kim that he knew she would follow. Before he could make it to the nearby lifts, Kim grabbed the trash on the table and dashed to the garbage can. After hearing a satisfying thump at the bottom of the can, she jogged up to him and grinned, "I'll keep you company! I don't have much to do anyway... just waiting around for orders. Plus, I've gone with you to the labs once before, remember? I don't mind."

From the other side of the expansive ShinRa cafeteria Aleksandr watched Kim and Ater with his dark, piercing eyes. He brushed some stray strands of hair from his eyes before starting to approach the two. His steps were slow, deliberately, painfully slow, his hands appearing relaxed but with small, almost seemingly microscopic tremors running through his outstretched fingertips. As he grew nearer he adjusted his suit sleeves and smoothed out a few wrinkles that chose to linger after his first attempt. He didn't want them to know he was a rookie, a new recruit, but he also figured they were familiar with their fellow Turks. He sighed as he got within earshot, his face flushed and feeling as though it were burning. He swallowed his fear, however, and stepped up to Ater and Kim, his well-polished shoes giving what seemed like a thud of confidence as he opened his mouth to introduce himself. "Hello, my name's Aleksandr. I'm one of the new recruits," he managed, though his voice was strained and barely audible over the jumbled conversations and loud voices of the other ShinRa employees. He plastered a smile on his face, not a large, fake, nervous smile, but a small one, where the corners of your mouth slightly perk up, a genuine, friendly, eager smile. He stood for awhile, the seconds passing by after his introduction, his mind racing with nervous thoughts and his heroic ambitions. He just stood, waiting for them to respond, praying that they would respond soon, before his racing heart exploded in his chest.
