Well, first off, they will only suspend your pants if they are fire-trousers or similar garb. Secondly they mostly just reverse the effects of fire on living tissue and then rotate the polarity from physical to ethereal.

Note: Flame suspenders also work on numerous forms of flame undergarment.

Flame suspenders also work on dry wood, and grass clippings.
but for an entirely different purpose.

Contrary to their name they would only prevent those things from catching on fire and maybe form a dry wood and grass clippings elemental.
