Ugh, I hate these political calls... But I love making the person who calls uncomfortable...

Koukon_Tenshi Zetan Koukon_Tenshi Just wondering, what do you guys think the universe will remember about humans once we some-how vanish? This question is very vague. Taken literally, it assumes that "the universe" has a memory. I'm assuming you didn't mean it in this way, since this is a rather silly notion, though I suppose not impossible. The way in which I'm assuming you meant this question to sound is how extra-terestrial life will remember us. This assumes a great deal of things, some of which are more likely than others. First, it assumes that there is life on other planets, which is extremely likely. However, it also assumes this life knows about us, since in order to remember something at all, you have to first know about something. This is much less likely, though I suppose possible. So, in answer to your question, I think it unlikely we will be remembered at all, unless we discover/are discovered by some other form of life.
Lets say, the universe has a memory, and knows all that happens, kinda like a god. What do you think would stick out most in it's memory?Much better said. smile Well, in that case... I think that it would remember how big of changes we made in such a short time. I heard a statistic sometime, and just went back to do the math myself.. it's pretty increadable. If you took the entire history of the Earth on film... heck, just the history of life on earth (which started about 3.5 billion years ago), then sped it up so it only took two hours, humans would only be around for the last 0.2 seconds. Imagine that for a moment... imagine that video camera sitting right in the middle of where New York City is to be built. Now you have two hours of nothing but nature... animals slowly evolving, coming up out of the water... and in the last fifth of a second, suddenly, BOOM! Giant buildings spring up out of nowhere. We've changed the entire face of the planet in a fifth of a second in earth-movie time. Whether for better or worse, it's pretty damn amazing.

I'm very strongly oppinionated when it comes to this sort of thing. Words are just words. Saying one word, no matter what it means, is not going to hurt anybody. Ever. Going to jail over that is just... obscenely stupid. Though, personally, I also believe that people should be allowed to go nude in public with no problems, but I won't go into all that now.
