procrastination girl when i say "irish band," i'm not even so much talking about bands FROM actual ireland - just bands who make a big deal out of their irishness and pull in a lot of traditional elements or make over old traditional songs. it's a genre. interestingly enough, i've heard of bagpipes before, so i know they're from scotland, but a lot of these bands employ them. This concept is so foreign to me, I can't even imagine something like this happening in my country. Traditional Irish bands to me are like The Dubliners and bands like Great Big Sea and Flogging Molly just draw from that tradition to make their own music. I guess this is related to the great importance Americans apply to the country their ancestors migrated from. burning_eyes

I have no music playing right now. My computer has suddenly decided it doesn't like it when I have my Winamp playlist going while I have Firefox (Or IE) on at the same time. (And my browser always, always, always, has Gaia. Or LiveJournal.) It also has decided it doesn't like it when I have more than three tabs up in any browser. My computer hates me. crying

Can you right click on the This Computer icon, go to properties and check what it says at Memory (RAM)? If it's something like 128 or 256 then I'd be inclined to blame it on that.

Wind Up Workin' in a Gas Station - Frank Zappa So simple, but really great. It's amazing what awesome music can do for a ridiculous song.

Selecter - Missing Words.
British Two-tone is awesome and Selecter is pretty much the only band from that wave with a female vocalist. Double awesome!

Organ Grinder - Marilyn Manson Portrait of an American Family is seriously the best album they ever made. Kiddie Grinder is so much better than Organ Grinder. talk2hand

Madita - Ceylon
I'm sooo glad I found this song. It's quirky, feminine, relaxing yet subtly uplifting, light piano textures and pretty harmonies over a groovy bass and beat. Kind of right up my alley.

Stranger Things Have Happened by Foo Fighters on: Echoes, Silence, Patience, Grace
This song has been playing on the radio/pandora for some time now and I've instantly fallen in love with it. I love all the elements of this song, lyrics, tempo, instruments, everything.
I want this album so bad if only for this song. crying

The Foo Fighters are freakin' win with their new album. I want it too! heart
I'm listening to Mariella by Kate Nash. I just love her songs. They're so different and non-traditional. Very original (even though there are artists like her, there aren't a lot. We need them in the U.S.!)

Yo Yo Ma - Three Preludes, No. 1 by Gershwin
Ever heard "Rhapsody in Blue"? This prelude has the same bustling city energy, with a dash of broadway showtune and twist of modern classical, starring a fun-loving cello over an energetic piano line.
I think it was originally a piano piece that Yo Yo Ma adapted for the cello. Not entirely sure. Either way, the guy has impeccable taste in the pieces he chooses to perform.
