Jessi beamed and jumped up from the bench. She hadn't completely finished her meal, but she was too excited to eat, now!

"I think I added them up quite quickly, thank you." She winked at Cross and then lifted up her tray, which also had Secret's food on it. "I'm going to run to my room, get my suit and a towel, and I'll be down at the beach in a flash! See you then! And thank you thank you thank you so much for doing this!!"

Jessi smiled brightly at Cross one more time before she raced to drop her tray off, quickly stash the food she had gotten for Secret in the bag she had brought, and then raced out of the cafeteria.

This is what she needed. It would get her mind off of the terrible accident last night and she'd get to spend some time with Cross again!

Just then, halfway to her cabin, she stopped dead in her tracks when Cross entered her mind and she realized what she had done just moments ago.

"I... winked at him... I winked at him!! Oh good Lord! He must think I'm such a flirt or so immature now! Ugh! I was just so happy and I did it automatically...."

Her face was flushed, but she realized there was nothing she could do about it now. It had already happened and she couldn't change it. Why let that one incident ruin the rest of her day? Besides, maybe Cross had forgotten already, or maybe he didn't even notice. However, those last 2 thoughts, for some strange reason, didn't set well with her. Did she want him to just forget something like that so easily, something she had done?

She simply shook her head and continued her race to her cabin. Just focus on swimming!

When she burst into her cabin, she set her bag down next to Secret and quickly went about changing into her swimsuit. "I'm sorry I can't stay long, but I'm going to go down to the lake and swim around, do some other water activities. It's already getting really hot outside. I think you and Mitsuki should consider coming down to the lake, too, when you're done eating. I think it will do you some good. I got what you asked for from the cafeteria as well as a small container of juice. It's in my bag there. I really hope it helps you, Secret."

She smiled brightly at Secret and then raced off to the lake with her deep blue towel in her hands and a pair of jean shorts thrown over her swimsuit. She could feel the rays of the sun warming her almost-bare shoulders, hitting her nose and causing it to flush slightly. She hadn't put on sunscreen because she figured she'd be in the water most of the time she was down at the lake.

Once she was down at the lake, she threw her towel down onto the sand and started stretching as she tried to subtly look around for Cross. Was he here yet?

Cross, had finished his meal and then used the cut-away path behind the cabins to get to his cabin faster than the normal route around. He entered his room through the emergency exit, grabbed his suit and his towel (Which was still currently hanging above on the wooden beam), and changed. Then, he put on a pair of sunglasses, and walked down to the waterfront, met with the Van Halen Song "Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love", which was playing on the radio. Although he had noticed Jessi winking at him, he didn't think much of it, and even if he did, it wouldn't have made a difference anyway. He walked on the dock to the lifeguard which was on shift there.

"Go take a break, you look like you need it." he said to the lifeguard who was peeling like an orange. "I'll watch these kids for a while."The guard acknowledged after looking at himself and left the pier.

It was then that he got a call on his cell phone and that was when he was reminded to do the radio show, playing two roles this time. Himself and the Dr. He'd do it this afternoon since it was too soon because of the previous night's crash, and would call it a special show, still donating half an hour to requests, but the rest for the interview.

((It took a few hours for me to do, but I just read all of the posts that we've made up until this point. Definitely would like to get Secret and Mitsuki involved again, perhaps even have a conversation with Secret and Cross. The first half had me in complete hysterics when I re-read it all. You all had such great posts, a lot of them were soo....funny!!!!))

((Yeah, it'd definitely be awesome to have them back! biggrin ))

Jessi had still been stretching when she looked up and saw the lifeguard turn around from his post and started to walk off the dock. Instead of following his retreat, though, Jessi turned her eyes back to the dock. There would be only one reason he would have left. And yep, sure enough, she could now see Cross standing at the dock where the lifeguard had been moments ago.

Without realizing it, a small smile formed on her face. After a few more minutes of stretching, Jessi stood back up and walked over to the dock and to Cross. Once she was next to him, she gave him a friendly smile.

"Hi. When do you want to start the test?"

Pulling out a whistle, Cross took the Bullhorn the lifeguard left behind and shouted loudly:

"Swimmer's who are going for their swim test's line up at the edge of the dock please. The swim test will start in one minute. Final call for everyone who's involved in this round. Repeat, final call!!!"

Already, more than a dozen people hurriedly lined up at the edge of the dock.

Jessi's eyes widened as quite a few people joined her to take the test. She thought it would just be herself taking the swimming test. She had mixed feelings on this. On one hand, she was glad she wouldn't be the only one out there. If she messed up because of nerves, maybe Cross wouldn't see it. But on the other hand, she wouldn't be the only one Cross could focus on! It was the same reason she was happy and not happy more people showed up. If she did mess up, she'd be thankful the others were there. If she didn't, then she'd be slightly disappointed that she wasn't the only one Cross had to pay attention to.

Ugh. It didn't matter right now anyway. She wanted to swim! So, she climbed down the ladder at the end of the dock and into the lake. It was a lot cooler than the air around them, but she still wished it was even colder. It would have been very refreshing.

Cross watched as everyone got into the water.

Now remember, if you touch the bottom of the lake at any time while taking this test, you fail. I'll know if you did and will call you on it. You can try again one more time today and then if you fail that one, you'll have to try again tomorrow." said Cross into the bullhorn. "Swimmer's take your mark. Five...Four...Three...Two..." Than he blew the whistle to signify the start of the test. Watching everyone wasn't as complicated as it seemed, you just had to have the right eye for it.

Jessi took off when the whistle blew, but she didn't force herself to go at a neck-break speed. This wasn't a race, and she wanted to enjoy herself. She also didn't want to tire herself out before the day even really started and before she and Cross had a chance to do more water activities.

She was a strong swimmer and had good form, but she stayed at a relaxed speed. She swam out to the buoy, which was the marker, and then swam to the trampoline where she made the seven minute time limit treading water. When she got back to the dock, she lifted herself up until her arms were leaning on the dock and she could look up at Cross. Sunlight was glaring into her eyes, so she had to mostly squint up at him, but she was still smiling.

"Well, I hope that qualified me for a wristband." She laughed softly.

((Had to adjust your post a little bit Laura, swimming out to the buoy is only half the test. wink , but otherwise great post!))

All in all, out of the thirteen participants, only five managed to make it. It wasn't swimming long distance out to the buoy that got them, it was trying to keep their heads above water for seven minutes that did. Some of the taller swimmer's found swimming out to the buoy to be the tough part, due to not being able to touch the ground, but when it came to staying afloat, for them it was the easier part. Two people got disqualified, which wasn't unusual, as there was always someone clever enough to think outside of the box and attempt something not in the rulebook.

"Yeah, I guess it does." said Cross, fitting a wristband on her right wrist. "Now remember to keep this band on your wrist at all times during your stay here at Camp St. Mary's. Otherwise, you will have to take the test again in order to do the water activities." he called into the bullhorn.

((Thanks!! biggrin I'm glad you did that. And there's a trampoline??? Oh my gosh, I hope Jessi and Cross have some fun on that later! I would LOOOVE to go on a trampoline in water! biggrin ))

Jessi smiled again and then completely launched herself out of the water and sat on the edge of the dock. She dangled her feet over the edge and occasionally splashed the water slightly with her feet. She had her hair tied back for the swimming test, so she didn't have any of her wet hair brushing against her face or shoulders right now. Just the warm sun touched her skin, and she loved it.

She lifted her wrist and looked at the green wrist band. "Not bad. At least it's not an ugly shade of green. And this means that I can play on that kick-a** trampoline. I didn't know this camp had that!"

((Heck yeah there's a trampoline! One of those giant ones that floats on the water. They are so fun!))

At about that moment, the lifeguard came back.

"I suppose you want to return to your shift right?"
he said.

"Yeah, I had my fun. Besides, I'm only allowed fifteen minutes for a break anyway."

"Well, I had my fun and you needed a break. In a way, we just helped each other out."

"Like I care er, yeah, well thanks." said the lifeguard changing his attitude immediately.

"C'mon Jess, let's go check out that trampoline."
said Cross, jumping into the water. Today, it wasn't too bad, not like it was a few days ago, bone chilling cold in the early morning hours.
PostPosted: Tue Oct 06, 2009 12:35 am

((Yes! I looked at an image of one on Google. I would LOVE to jump on that in the water, and then jump OFF of it into the water. lol!))

Jessi smiled and pushed herself off of the dock with her arms so that she was quickly in the water again. She quickly swam over to that trampoline. Man she wanted to have fun on that so badly! How can anything get better than a trampoline in the water?!

She FINALLY got to the trampoline and she quickly crawled her way onto the top of the bouncy structure. As soon as she was on top of it, she quickly stood up and started bouncing quickly, trying to get as much height as she could in a fast amount of time. Her face was beaming with happiness. She even released her hair from her ponytail so that she could feel the wind whipping through her hair as she got higher and higher.

"This... is... INCREDIBLE!" She looked down at Cross and grinned brightly at him.

"Come bounce with me!"

Cross climbed up the side of the trampoline and then jumped with her.

He bounced high into the air, but he wasn't skilled enough to do backflips on the trampoline. And besides that, the trampoline wasn't that resilient to where you were able to do back-flips. If he did one, chances were good that he'd land on his head and that would hurt. He noticed to, that there was a lifeguard on the trampoline here as well keeping watch over the people on the trampoline and with a walkie-talkie and a waterproof bag to put it in.

She also was here, he supposed, to supervise the people on the trampoline so that they didn't get too injured or hurt too badly.

As Jessi came down, her wild mane of hair barely whipped Cross across the eyes. "Aaah..." he naturally found himself say, and used his hand to block as much of it as possible.

At first, Jessi couldn't figure out why Cross... Darrien. She had to remind herself to call him Darrien! He had told her his real name so that she could and would hopefully use it. Everyone else called him Cross, so she found herself doing so as well at times. It would take a little while to get used to, but she'd get it to where it was completely natural for her. And she loved that she was one of the few people that he trusted to tell his real name to.

But why was he shouting every time she was coming down from a bounce? Surely the bouncing wasn't throwing him off balance... She kept an eye on him as she continued to bounce, and then she realized it! She saw her hair whip into his face each time she was coming down from one of her high jumps! Whoops!

She put her hands on the sides of her head, behind her ears, and tried to keep her hair from flailing around, but it wasn't working too well. She was bouncing so high and fast now that it was hard to be able to tie her hair back into a ponytail again. But all of this was making her giggle. Here she was, bouncing really high and really fast, but she had her hands wrapped around her head! She must look like a regular goofball, but she didn't care! This was fun!

She was about to slow down briefly to tie back her hair when all it kept doing was hitting Darrien in the face over and over again, but then her heel slipped on the surface of the trampoline as she was coming down and it caused her to slide forward slightly and then fall backwards onto her back. It looked odd, but she was laughing so hard that she could barely get 2 words out. She hadn't hurt herself at all when she had fallen. It was just so funny!

Cross tried to catch her so that she wouldn't fall off the trampoline and hurt herself, however he found himself unable to do this, due to the suddenness of the whole event. It was like trying to catch a fast moving baseball with nothing but your bare hand. Too hard to see, to painful to catch.

So, he landed on his back on the trampoline and he used himself to barely help break her fall. He felt six vertebrae in his back crack but, he got up decently.

And she wasn't hurt. At least from a visible standpoint.

Darrien looked at his watch. He had two hours before he had to do the radio show, half an hour before the next inner tubing session came in.
