Fail: Sounds a LOT like Franz Ferdinand, Bloc Party, etc., painfully emo singer.
Win: Rock that makes me want to dance is rarer than it should be. Can we return to it being cool to shake your a** to something besides rap and techno?

Ólafur Arnalds- 1440
I just downloaded his debut album,
Eulogy for Evolution and it's absolutely beautiful.
It's verges on post-rock sometimes, but it's mostly classical.
It's so powerful and invokes so much imagery...
I think a lot of you would enjoy his work.

It's great to see that instrumental composers can still make it as popular artists outside of film score, though it seems they still have to sell out to the "pretty" side to be noticed. It's nice though. <3

Adele - "Daydreamer"
Just bought some tracks off her debut album, 19. It's SO good.
She reminds me of Amy Winehouse, but with less attitude and more of a Feist-like mystery about her.
"Chasing Pavements" is also an amazing song. Usually, I find it cheesy when verses erupt into a loud "epic" chorus - like with most songs - but in this one, a symphony joins her and it's incredibly moving. Her voice sounds effortlessly rich, both powerful and tender at the same time.
I highly recommend her. <3

Enchanted Rose by Aivi Tran
Awesome artist. But her releases are few and far between.
She puts out hits with every song, but apparently is a perfectionist that likes to bide her time.
You have me wrapped around your finger music wise, what gives. gonk

Thank you, I'm glad you like it.
I do write a lot of music... I just don't share it if I don't think you guys will like it. It's tough juggling the line between "academic" music - which professors like - and "commercial" music - which my family and friends like. I like both, so I try to appeal to both crowds with the same piece of music.
My "Sonata for Flute & Piano" and my electric guitar trio called "Fountains" if you've ever heard it, are examples of that. They're supposed to be accessible and pleasing, but they also meet the expectations of my mentors. Astor Piazzolla's music is a great example.
"Enchanted Rose" isn't something I'd ever bring to class with me to show off, but it's gotten great responses from my family and friends.

Lights & Music - In Ghost Colours -Cut Copy
So thing I found on iTunes about a month ago during their free music deals.
Real catchy, techo, great vocals, and the lyrics really have something to it.
I'd buy the rest of the album if I had enough money on my iTunes account.

Amazing pianist, second only to Aivi of course. >3
Real emotional, talented, I feel that I also hear some of Aivi's expression in this song but this is just me. sweatdrop
About a 7 minute song, which I love when it comes to classical or just really influential music that is both addicting and pleasing.
God I'm such a sucker for beautiful music, especially classical since it's what I listened to while in the crib as a baby and supposedly in the womb too. sweatdrop

Really don't care for the music video but this song is so addicting. Walking on Air by KerliThe way that it sounds creepy and peaceful, and with all the interlaced notes some how seems to fit me despite how the lyrics are. Go download it on iTunes this week if you like it, since it's free this week only. The video kind of reminds me of Beretta Grimm's Creepy yet beautiful doll. sweatdrop

Joe Hisaishi - "Ponyo On A Cliff By The Sea" Soundtrack
The new Miyazaki movie came to theaters while I was in Tokyo. I didn't see it, but I bought the soundtrack. It's not as good as other recent Hisaishi soundtracks, but it still has bits of Hisaishi's style and lovely orchestrations. Perhaps after a few more listens I'll find some gems and favorites.
Listening to Hisaishi music makes me want to go into film score instead of game music... the use of acoustic instruments and live performers is much closer to the kind of music I wrote in college. I don't really care for where the American game industry seems to be going. I don't want to be a technician who does music - I just want to compose, damn it.
