Working sucks. I want a job where people pay me to make computers for myself rather than people paying me to make computers for them, which they're just gonna break anyways.
Customer> "Why won't my computer work?"
Me> "Oh, I think the problem is located in the I D 10 T transistor located on your motherboard."
Customer> "Oh." Blank stare falls heavily upon their face. "Can you fix it?"
Me> "Why no, I'm quite sure that fixing that I D 10 T transistor is quite impossible."
Customer> "Oh. Do I need a new motherboard?"
Me> "Yes, yes you do." aside- "You ********> "How much will that cost?"
Me> Muttering, "these past 2 hours of my life. I want them back, dammit."
Customer> "What was that, I didn't hear you."
Me> "About $100."
Moral of the story: If you don't know how to use a computer, DON'T FRIGGING USE ONE!!!!!!! Seriously, these people are as bad as someone who doesn't know which end of a gun the bullet comes out of; complete with similar end-results. You toy around with it and don't know what the ******** you're doing, someone's probably gonna get hurt, and it's probably the asshat toying around.

The I D 10 T thing? Don't use it, eh? That's rude, obnoxoius, and really really old.
I don't know s**t about my computer. One greasy little geek told me I had an I D 10 T error when a circut thingy blew or fried or whatever. I don't care how my computer works, and I don't want to learn because it's boring as hell and I have better things to do.

jopwie The I D 10 T thing? Don't use it, eh? That's rude, obnoxoius, and really really old. I don't know s**t about my computer. One greasy little geek told me I had an I D 10 T error when a circut thingy blew or fried or whatever. I don't care how my computer works, and I don't want to learn because it's boring as hell and I have better things to do. It may be rude, it may be obnoxious, and hell, it is old. But this 'greasy little geek' is telling all those out there that if you don't want to put time and effort into learning on how to at least use your computer safely (the cd tray is NOT a friggin drink coaster), then do NOT come crying to the geeks who are there to repair the pieces of s**t all those stubborn, 'holier than thou' asshats literaly ruin due to their inherent and quite blatant stupidity. I for one absolutely HATE having to deal with people who couldnt tell you the difference between a keyboard and mouse quite literaly SCREAMING into my ear about how 'I' ******** up their computer. "Well Mr. Robinson, if you didn't surf around for pornography all damn night while the wife is asleep, you wouldn't have gotten all that malware and spyware." Let me say something jopwie; you might not like it that we geeks (and i for one am proud to be one) pull this immature bullshit with the "ID10T errors" and whathaveyou, but in order to even start this, someone had to give it credence. Don't agree with me jopwie? Good. I'm not here to make you happy. I'm here to rant about what problems I have in my life. Currently, my problems are my having to deal with stupid (yes, stupid) people on a regular basis. Want to attack the rant, my rant?? You better bring the 'guns' necessary to back your point up, because I do so hate being pestered by novices.

So I didn't read most of your post, but if you're trying to make excuses for being disrespectful, I don't want to hear them.

jopwie So I didn't read most of your post, but if you're trying to make excuses for being disrespectful, I don't want to hear them. Excuses?! You didn't read my post and disrespected me. At least I have the decency to read the post before I attempt to tear it to shreds. If nothing else, you should apologize to me, just because you disrespected me in the first place. Bah, this is crap. I won't let comments on some internet forum get me riled up.

Haha, I didn't get that error thing till I read it the third time. ******** I'm tired.
But anywho, I really don't know too much about the interior of my computer, I can usually get past with enough knowledge to keep the thing running as far as on screen stuff goes. For everything else I have a boyfriend and a brother who are both very knowledged about computers that can do it for me.
If we all knew about computers, then what would the people repairing/building or rebuilding computers do for a living? XP

I don't know a damn thing about the inner workings of my computer.
I know how to use teh outside just fine.
I don't want to really know how it works either. It doesn't interest me.
Making fun of people because they don't understand how somethign works is childish. It's annoying, yes, but there is no need to pick someone apart because they don't understand it.
That being said, those people whose computers you are fixing have no right to yell at you because you did what was nesaccary to fix it after it broke.
You don't need to know how to fix something in order to use it. Odds are, most of us can't change our own oil. Or if we can do that then we don't really know what the hell a carburator even does. Or where it is...or how to spell it. confused

Never once did I say that everyone had to know about the inner workings of their computer. I don't expect most people to be that in-depth. All I ask is that people remember to plug the tower in before calling tech support.
The guy that I was helping had installed no less than 20 programs on his own within the first 24 hours of when he purchased the computer from the company I work for. Another 30 or so were malware/spyware. It completely nuked computer. I swapped out the RAM and CPU (both worked fine) as well as the motherboard (totally burnt out).
His reason on calling the store was that his computer wasn't turning on. We asked him if both his monitor and tower were plugged in. He responded in the affirmative. I was sent over there and the first thing I did was plug in the tower to the wall jack. Seriously, remove head from a**.... *shakes head in disgust*
And once again, never once did I demand that people know each and every inner workings on their computer. Hell, I know people just won't understand that stuff. But for ******** sake, to the idiots out there, while the computer is a great and wonderful convenience, REMEMBER TO PLUG THE DAMN THING IN!
This is above and beyond, of course, knowing what will nuke your computer via surfing the web. As was stated in my 2nd post in this completely ridiculous 'discussion' in a most sardonic tone, "Well Mr. Robinson, if you didn't surf around for pornography all damn night while the wife is asleep, you wouldn't have gotten all that malware and spyware."
Ah well, I just have to cope with the realization that human ignorance is my bread-and-butter.
Oh, and any continuation of this in this post in a negative manner is gonna get some rather disagreeable feedback from yours truly, possibly a banning or two, depending on the offense (I am an officer of this guild, after all). I don't b***h in a thread designed for venting to have my means of employment and quite frankly, me personally, attacked in any such way. I won't do that to you guys and I had hoped that it wouldn't happen to me. Jopwie proved me wrong.

Mmhmm,....
I wasn't saying anything except that making fun of people who don't know about computers was childish. No reason to get in such a huff.
I'm an officer too. There's no reason to ban someone for disagreeing with you in my opinion.
Rant about your job as much as you want. We are allowed to disagree with you though.
Now for my agreement with you,
Yes, haivng to plug something in because people didn't would drive me ******** insane and I would want to hurt them. Badly. You just didn't make it that clear that those were the people you were making fun of.
In that case, poke away. Even put their head through a monitor if you want. smile

ANd if you thought working in a tech support is bad, try a convenience store in the middle of welfare bourg. After that you'll see what true stupidity is.
