Kitai wipes her forehead absently before swilling a health potion, she waves at her gargant as it disappears. "til later old friend, I'll call you if'n we find any more zombies."

((hadn't realized I took so much damage.))

ronin swung his sword to get off any blood that might have stained it. "i guess we head down another tunnel, or go into the room ahead of us. which is it"

Gonzu scrubs fuitiley at his gore stained and ash coated robes. "I don't know if my wardrobe can take many side trips. Let's just get what we came for and get out of here. Straight to the manor." He points towards the room ahead and starts walking.

The room ahead is, as you observed before, currently lit. It seems to be a small reading room, and though nobody is in it at the moment it seems as though people have been through here. You find copies of the spell Heal and the action Smash. No books are seen in the room, but the door does hang open into the next room.

In the next room you sense for the first time that this entire part of the manor exists in extradimensional space. This room actually seems to function as more of a crossroads than an actual room, because there is a door on each of the four walls, and two of them besides the one you came in through are open (the front and the right).

Another dead mage lies on the ground. Reaching into his pocket, you find his recording crystal, and you replay his last thoghts.

... but wasn't in Baron Vyshel's private reading room either, and we were about to search Ever's when they attacked us again. Our spells are darned near worthless against them, and he never shows his face long enough to plant a good fireball in it. The teleporter to the library has to be here somewhere, but I'll never find it with them chasing me!

Kitai looks over the loot and then back at Gonzu. "Ye've got the magic for that heal spell right enough. I think Ronin would be the best choice for that Smash ability." She sighs, "If we find a magic shield it's all mine though."

Okay, if Ninja Lawyer isn't available to make a decision within a day, it's Lone Ronin's job to make one.

"hmmm...... i suppose i could have the smash ability. ok, gonzu can have spell heal, i'll have smash, and you will have, if we come across one, a 'magic sheild'." ronin then turned to face the other three door ways "i say we try the door to our right."

This must be the private reading room the recording crystal mentioned; there are books everywhere about undead, demons, and various spells and creatures. None of them, however, are the book you were searching for.

One of the books sticks out as being strange, however. It is a book about architecture, and it has been opened to a particular page displaying a particular style of pillar. Being so out of place, it isn't a great stretch of imagination to think that just such a pillar is the key to finding the library.

Gonzu snaps out of his catatonic state and wipes the drool off his chin. "Oh! Wait! What was I doing again?" He runs into the other room to join the others. "Right, pillar, room, got it. Shall we go forward now?"

((so sorry, I couldn't get on for very long lately.))

Leaving this room, you wander back into the central room. Sure enough, the room is decorated by pillars of all different styles. Placing your hand on the pillar, you feel it pulse with magical energy. Thinking the word library opens up a portal behind you.

Stepping into it, you arrive in a massive library. The floors and walls are cold stone, and the room is built in a circle you estimate to be at least a hundred yards in diameter. Nearby you see a pair of men wearing black robes and flanked by a pair of skeleton mages. They look at you, surprised.

"Well, so there's more than just mages wandering the manor, then?" He points at you, and the skeleton mages move to attack. He and his cohort jump in as well.

Necromancer Teacher [30] Lieutenant
Attack: 0
Defense: 3
Combat: 0
Life: 20
Magic: 10
Equip: 3
Abilities: Skilled Caster (4), Fast Caster (6).
Spells: Energy Burst, Fireball.
Items: Amulet of Spell Dispersion.

Necromancer Student [18]
Attack: 0
Defense: 2
Combat: 0
Life: 15
Magic: 6
Equip: 3
Abilities: Skilled Caster (4)
Spells: Singe, Energy Burst
Items: Amulet of Spell Dispersion

Amulet of Spell Dispersion (3 equip cost)
Once per turn, the wearer may spend 1 MP to reduce the damage taken from magic by 2 points per point of Magic they have.

The skeleton mages open up with stunning blows (first one is on Thorn, the second is on Gonzu; these are the third and fourth d8s. Even = No spell/action may be cast, odd = they may be cast). They use their combat dice for defense unless they are not attacked, and one attacks Thorn while the second attacks Gonzu.

The necromancers move in to take out the non-magical threats, and Ronin eats 15 damage from the teacher's Energy Burst (the damage being reduced by 5 from 20 because of Thorn's Magic Shield), and the student's Energy Burst deals 7 damage to Kitai.

Gonzu: 7/10 life, 5 AP, 3 MP. (Dropped to 5 life if hit goes through.)
Ronin: 17/35 life, 5 AP, 5 MP.
Kitai: 10/20 life, 5 AP, 3 MP.
Thorn: 2/10 life, 5 AP, 4 MP. (Taken out if hit goes through.)

Party pool: 5 AP, 5 MP.

Kitai rushes forward and attacks the Teacher, "Come my friend! We have undead to crush!!" She raises her shield while summoning her gargant. The great beast appears suddenly in a fountain of sparks and places itself firmly between the skeleton mage and Thorn. It roars it defiance to it's puny skeletal foe and attacks with a sweep of it's great foreleg. Kitai yells back to it. "Whatever ye do!! Don't let that bony b*****d through!"

((Attack Necromancer teacher, summon gargant, roll for Attack, Gargant pulls attack from Thorn with Defender ability.))

((EDIT: not stunned after all. It was the second of the second two rolls that was stun for me. Got it. Thought it was the second of the first two.))

Gonzu immediately conjures his fireball and sends it to intercept the two skeleton mages. "Get back!! Avaunt!!!" He sends half to each skeletal mage, any remaining power is funneled towards the Necromancer student. As soon as this is accomplished he downs the health potion.

((cast fireball, 15 to each skeletal mage, any damage that isn't needed goes to the necromancer student. Health potion.))
