He made an expression of the sort one uses when pitying an ignorant person, and then said, "Take a really good look at me for a minute, will you?" Hopefully she would see his true appearance for a second and dispel that thought.

Edea shook her head, "Special but...magic?" she inquired softly, looking down at the ground, "And even if there is magic, why would one such as I possess it?"

"Because you do, of course. Same reason as anyone else," he said. "Besides which, how can you possibly deny that you're hearing other people's thoughts in your head? Also, if you were willing enough to believe that you are capable of magic, you could find someone better at what you're capable of than you are to help you block them out."

Edea lifted her head ever so slightly, her eyes wide, "C-can you...?" she asked hesitantly, desperate enough to make the voices stop to try to believe what he was saying and actually ask for help.

Edea shook her head, a self-derisive look on her face now. "I'm sorry, asking isn't something I'd normally do....I'm just a bit out of sorts, today, it seems. I'm hearing voices in my head and someone is telling me I'm still sane..."

"It's fine, you're probably just hearing everyone else's thoughts," he said. "I'm not sure why it would only start today, but in any case you're just as sane as anyone you're listening to."

Edea bit her lip. How to say that she hadn noticed before and just desperately wanted to believe it was a passing thing? Better not to, "T-thank you," she stumbled, shurgging her shoulder as a way of answering the second part of his sentence. "Was there somewhere you had to be?"
