Shinta looked on seriously, a strange, deadly gleam in his eyes. "The Dolarian clan you say..." His voice sounded harsh and cold.

Tochi noticed the difference in Shinta's voice. He felt truely sorry for Lux.
((I know, But I'm an a**))

Lux watched the dog disappear, then stared at her blade. As she racked her brains, a memory came to mind...

Loud laughter poured from a brightly lit room in a mansion filled with youngsters. Through a large window, observers could see several teens gathered around a young man, captivated by tales of his adventuring. The man was gesturing wildly, obviously embellishing his tale for the benefit of his audience.
Bright blue eyes sparkled on the man's tanned face, dark hair falling rampantly across his forehead. He was of a medium build, with a strong nose and square jaw. He wrapped up his tale with a dramatic flourish of a knife he was holding in right hand, miming a death thrust into the chest of an invisible foe.
Outside of the mansion, hidden behind a large tree, a young woman of apparently the same age as this man lurked in the shadows, her piercing gray eyes fixed on the man in the center of his comrades. Her eyes narrowed slightly, as she carefully measured the distance from the tree to the window, then took in every object in the lavishly decorated room.
As the unseen observer watched, the friends rose, clapping the man on the shoulders, then left the room. She could hear them leaving the house, doors slamming, loud conversation ringing along the quiet street as they left. The young man, who had risen to see his guests off, reappeared in the room, pouring himself a glass of wine.
The girl moved from the shadows, moving as quietly as a cat stalking its prey as she approached the open window. Form-fitting black clothing accentuated her female frame; a dark mask hid all features but the gray eyes.
Inside the room, the young man placed his glass on a nearby table, then quietly approached the window. He thought he had seen something slinking through his yard; standing at the window he peered into the darkness, holding the knife carefully in his hand.
Suddenly, something struck him squarely in the chest; he staggered backward as a lithe black form swung from the window and into the room. Grabbing a poker in his spare hand he moved to attack this intruder, but was clearly outmatched. The girl easily dodged his attacks; an expression of amusement flashed in her eyes before she delievered a neat high kick to the man's jaw. Before he had a chance to recover the intruder had whirled him around, holding his wrists in one hand. In the other, a bright blade with an intricately carved hilt flashed in the light.
The blade was the last thing he saw before it was slashed across his throat.
The man hit the ground, choking to death on his own blood, the girl standing triumphantly over her prey.
"Hey, cous-"
A door creaked; the girl's head snapped toward the room's entrance. Another man was standing in the doorway, eyes stricken. Before he could react, the girl leapt through the window and into the night. The man raced to the window, but all he could see was the night...

Lux shook off the memory, her gray eyes dark.
I'd forgotten, she thought.

((LOL You aren't one if you admit it that easily...))

"This one has fought with them before, when this blade was still sharp. They are ruthless, dishonorable..." His voice trailed off into angry silence.

Turning to Lux he added, "You are not alone in this Lux-dono, and this one does not only speak out of charity or friendship this time."

Anyone who saw the gleam in Shinta's eyes at that moment would be very glad of knowing that he had vowed not to kill.

"Dishonerable, but effective Shinta. We ninja are not ones to initiate a fair fight. It takes too much time and energy. plus," He looked at him mirthlessly. "It's safer."

Lux' eyes were locked on the blade; had any normal person seen the expression he would have fainted from fear. her eyes had become gray ice, narrowed and devoid of emotion. Her face betrayed nothing, but her hand clenched her dagger tightly.
Now I remember. That rich b*****d I took out was Dalorian's cousin. This explains our last encounter, Lux thought.
The last time she had seen him, he had been raving about some impending doom heading in her direction. She hadn't given it a second thought, but now she wished she had paid more attention.
Ah well, what's done is done. Nothing you can do about it now, she told herself.
Looking up, the two men before her could see her hard, emotionless expression-the "hunter's look" she called it."

"They must know I'm here by now," Lux said, her normally melodious voice flat. "But thank you for telling me so much, Tochi. I'm sure it won't do me any good, but it helps to know."

Tochi looked into those fierce eyes with out emotion. "Yes, they know. They want me to off you. I told them I would." Tochi stood there. waiting for the reaction.

Lux did not speak with a defeated tone, however. There was no tone to her voice whatsoever to indicate what she was feeling. She did not intend on hiding, for that was pointless. They'd find her. She wouldn't hunt them out, either. That was just plain stupid.
Options, options. What are my options? Lux thought.
She absent-mindedly speared a piece of cantaloupe with her dagger, sliding it off the blade and popping it into her mouth.

Shinta nodded slowly at Tochi, "That is true. This lowly one cannot say that all his battles were wholly honorable."

He looked back at Lux, noting with a trace of sadness that like him, her battlemind had returned with the stirring of old danger. "Knowing who is coming makes all the difference. Having fought with them before, this one knows their tactics and the feel of their presence. They shall not be able to take us by surprise."

Lux met his eyes with utter calm, leaning back into her chair and crossing her arms.

"So? What are you waiting for?"

"Tochi arched an eyebrow. So this was him. the infamous shadow slayer. the only one to defeat a team sent after him. This was interesting.

Lux spared a smile for Shinta but never removed her eyes from Tochi. She remembered what he had said about never targeting women or children. Did that still hold true?

Shinta tensed and held up a hand between Lux and Tochi. "Enough, we are all friends here, or so this one has been told."

Tochi reached for his sword slowly and pulled it over his solder. he held it out infront of him. he then grobbed the blade and held it out infront of Lux, Hilt first. "I didn't do it while I did not know you, Why would I do it while you are counted among my friends? I only said I would to give you time."
