Would the government risk the lives of many of their own people to start a worthless war? To drive anger into the hearts of the people? Your playing with a double sided sword if you are doing that. If it is true, and the truth leaks out, rumors will spread and the government wouldn't be trusted. I PERSONLY don't think they would be that stupid.

Arrogance makes people stupid. Do you really believe that the key players are not that arrogant? Besides, it wouldn't be the first time the US government has lied to us about an attack on our own soil.

There are plenty of benefits for the architects of this war for both the destruction of the Twin Towers and for the war it would spark. The evidence for this statement is provided in sources from previous posts, if you are willing to spend the time to wade through it.

Double-edged sword? Many will believe whatever the government tells them, and when the official declassified records that show the lies are released, no one cares anymore. And it doesn't change anything. The wars have already happened, the people have already died. Policies remain the same.

And the unwashed masses remain as ignorant and careless as always, voting for their favorite Idol, oblivious to their eroding civil liberties.

I dont think that your government staged the actual attack, but I wasnt suprised it happened. They were pushing people so far to the edge it was inervitable. They had to have known that.

It may not happen now but what happens in 100 years? No one knows how far the government will go but at one point they will cross a line that everyone will argue over. Its my oppion ok biggrin

Pacify
These conspiracy theory's are insane. The most the government could have possibly done was provoke an attack.

I highly suggest you Google something called 'PNAC'. This document was written in 1998, and outlines what needs to be done to maintain american supremacy in the world. One of it's objectives is to start a war in the middle east, to obtain control of the oil fields.

And, i normally would agree with you. However, there is just enough that the government hasn't answered, or has not said, or done, or has just ignored, to dismiss this claim. An example is the metal from the Two Towers. The government pulled it all out imeaditly, rather then let scientists examine it, to discover what happened. They also pulled the bomb sniffing dogs out of the towers a couple of weeks before the attacks.
Am i suggesting that BOMBS took out the towers? When you add this information to the facts that controled demolition experts say it looked like it was a controled demo, and that the metal examination could have yealded that it was a blast that took out the support members, YES, I am saying it is a possibility.
Also, the scrambling of aircraft took place 30 minutes after the first plane HIT THE TOWERS! FAA regulation says that interceptors must be flying over the capitol within 2 minutes of any aircraft being hijacked ANYWHERE in the U.S. The order came from the pentagon to scramble jets from an Air Force Base 30 minutes away from the capitol. This was in direct violation of the FAA regulations. Also, there is an Air Force Base that can have jet flying over the capital in 2 minutes. and yet, the order was sent late, to a base that was too far away, and it was in violation of FAA regulations.
The final point (for now, at least) is the manuver required to hit the pentagon that the "terrorist" used. I put terrorist in quotes not because i believe they did a good thing, but because of this. The manuver that they needed to do to hit the part of the Pentagon that was hit required a 80000 foot descent in 2 minutes, a manuver that fighter pilots are hesitent to do in an F-16, much less a comercial transport. Also, we STILL don't have the footage of the plane hitting the pentagon, and the damage patterns matched that of a Bunker-Buster missle. Also, that part had just been renovated, and was reletivly empty. They could have just done a nose dive, and killed MANY more people

I am unsure. I have not seen convincing evidence that would lead me to say the government had a hand in the execution of this attack. I have seen evidence to inspire doubt and there are plenty of incentives for the attack. We have motive, means, opportunity, and suspicious circumstance. What we do not have is conclusive evidence to prove beyond a shadow of a doubt.

I never researched the subject, so I'll do the logical thing. (Assume it was the Government, because humans aren't very nice.)

After reading this entire thread just to make sure I'm not repeating anything already said I hold to my opinion that the government had everything to do with it. Anyone that has doubts on that count needs to Google "loose change". It sent shivers up my back and fire to my veins. There is all the evidence that points toward the government and none that points away from it that has less holes than a block of swiss cheese

My thoughts on 9/11

The information pressented by the government was imediate and "without question." What's more is it just doesn't necesarilly seem true. Even if the government DIDN'T doing it there is a whole bunch of stuff they just don't want to tell, and that makes it suspicious.

People often say that the government wouldn't be so stupid because if peopel found out it'd be AN UPRISING or whatever.
Let's just imagine it WAS set up by the government. What's happening now is exactly what would happen. The Government would deny, deny deny. A lot of people would continue eating it up and there would be these same debates. If the government did due it, it would take SUBSTANCIAL evidence for the government to admit it. Have we even acknowledged the Armenian genocides yet?

Another point about conspiracy is that you must ALWAYS look at who gains. When you make some theory, you have to show how a certain group clearly gains. We can easily see how gov. power ramped up right after the attacks. We were put into a war under shadey inteligence that previous administrations acknowledged would be too risky. Haliburton which is connected dirrectly to the VP easilly benefited from now having ties to oen of the worlds largest oil producing nations.

If the terrorist group Al Qaida (Sp?) taliban and whatever did it...one must look at THEIR gains as well. How much are THEY gaining by knocking down our buildings? It may be easy to note that their gains are far mroe abstract than the possible gains of the current administration.

I wont say with absolute certainty who DID do it, but I can EASILY see how it would have been the us doing it to ourselves.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was...I've also seen facts pointing toward the government. However there's also facts pointing toward terroists, but whether those facts are true, I don't know. The facts pointing toward the government, can't be for sure. So it could be either or and I don't know which.

(I apologize for length.)

Occam's Razor states: "All things being equal, the simplest solution tends to be the best one.”

Let us apply it to the differing stories explaining the September 11th attacks.

The “official story” as some of you have called, it, is that members of Al Qaeda hijacked and crashed four airplanes.

The conspiracy theorists claim that in fact the United States Government staged the attacks, using explosives in the Two Towers, a missile to hit the Pentagon and so on.

So, what is the simplest solution? We must dig deeper to figure out which explanation is the simpler one.

The official story is supplemented by the following facts: at the begging of the current Presidential administration, George W. Bush and his advisors appointed Regan-era experts to important positions in the FBI, CIA, and other intelligence agencies. These advisors are/were stuck in a “Cold-War frame of mind” if you will. They are/were worried about more traditional threats, not terrorism.

Also, these same advisors probably added some politics into how they did their jobs: they ignored the warning of Clinton-era intelligence leaders (warnings about Al Qaeda) because, well, the Clinton-era experts worked for a Democrat.

And, if you want to assume the current administration has few scruples, you may believe what I do: the Bush Administration purposely ignored the Al Qaeda threat, basically allowing the terrorist attacks of September 11th to happen.

Now, let us consider the “9/11 conspiracy” hypothesis: the airplanes that hit the Twin Towers were remote-controlled cargo planes, the Pentagon was hit by a Cruise Missile, and the Twin Towers were packed with explosives so that they would collapse.

Now, this line of reasoning requires hundreds, indeed thousands, of US government employees to be in on this conspiracy. The Air Force pilots and technicians behind the remote-controlled cargo planes and Cruise Missile, the people who planted the explosives in the Twin Towers, the security guards who were bribed to ignore this, and so on.

Indeed, no certified Structural Engineer or explosives expert has confirmed the “9/11 conspiracy” hypothesis. Are in on the conspiracy theory too? Or did the US government perform a perfect hoax, that fooled all the experts and had no dissenters?

After viewing all the evidence, I find the “official story” to be much more elegant and considerably less complicated. Also, Popular Mechanics (and indeed, Peen & Teller) have debunked many of the claims 9/11 conspiracy theorists have made. For example, steel does not need to melt to lose all of its structural integrity, it simply needs to heated to about 800 degrees, and jet fuel can burn at up to 1200 degrees. Thus, a fire of jet fuel & office objects could have weakened the Twin Towers to collapse.

Finally, we must talk about conformation bias. This is when someone (a researcher, scientist or conspiracy theorist for example) is based towards hypothesis being correct, and thus they interpret all the data to confirm this, and ignore any data that does not. Yes, even scientists can be guilty of this.

Consider a conspiracy theorist: they believe the United States government is responsible for many of the horrible things that have happened in recent US history (like the JFK assassination). So they are biased: they believe the US government does bad things, and so they interpret and present the evidence to support the hypothesis that the US government was behind 9/11.

So, in short, the 9/11 conspiracy theorists are biased. Too much so for their version of 9/11 to be credible. Yes, I admit structural engineers and explosives experts are somewhat biased in their own way, but if every expert in several fields confirm a conclusion (Al Qaeda is responsible for 9/11), then it is a strong point in favor of the “official story”

So, in conclusion, using Occam's Razor, we would determine that the scenario of Al Qaeda being responsible for the attacks, while intelligence experts with political agendas and an outdated world-view ignored the evidence, either consciously or unconsciously.

(I can de-bunk more specific claims by the 9/11 conspiracy theorists if asked to do so.)

Finally, let me end on a slightly humorous note. A web-comic about confirmation bias:

I honestly think the goverment planned that incident to get attention and start a bunch of mess that hasn't ended to this day. How did looking for one terrorist group lead a war with a country that had nothing to do with the attacks? America is corrupt in my opinion. This country doesn't care about what it does to its citizens.

Al-Qaida:
They would have had to find willing suicide candidates. This probably isn't TOO hard wit hJihadist education systems and other social problems. They then must legally enter the country. Successfully take courses on piloting and so forth. Then we have to expect that after all that time, they attack on the exact day when NORAD would be least likely to notice? They use very similar attack strategies to those being drilled for that day?

This requires inside government Info I would imagine. Then these people have to hijack a plane with what sounded like minimal weaponry. I can only imagine that it wouldn't be hard to over-take. We have the reccords of one set of passangers fighting back, seems easy thugh they screwed up.

The U.S.:
Prepare a trained servicemen (who may be desperate or deep within military confidentiality) to perform a suicide mission. They'll be told to crash two airplanes into the trade towers. For a trained military career fellow who could potentially have already "disapeared" this wouldn't be very hard.

I heard a theory stating that another type of plane was used for the pentagon. Simply a small military plane that can fly at top speed above airtraffic radar. Fake a signal, show up in the correct spot and simply dive (with much more grace than a massive jetliner could possibly perform ESPECIALLY under the control of a noive pilot) straight into a designated section of the building.

The people of the original flight could simply have just been flown off and slaughtered. Maybe even in the ocean? I don't think it would be a difficult cover up.

The bonus is that the government doesn't need thousands of people to be in on it.

The only people so far that need to be in on it are the few pilots and government higher-ups.

If the trade towers were pre-rigged with demolition charges, only the demo team would need to know. Depending on the amount of time for preperation this might have been performed by a small team. There's only one building that appeared to PLAINLY have demo charges in it before-hand which is the infamous building 7.

Considering government resources, it seems EASY for our government to do it. I would be astonished that a small jihadist group could pull it off.

I think people act like it would be difficult for our government to do, which is rediculous. They'd have an easy time of it.

I would absolutely hate to think that we are ruled over by such horrible people.
But the question is, if the government did conspire 9/11, why did they do it? If it was for oil, why did they blame Iraq and not Saudi-Arabia?
And why did we go after Saddam-Hussein more than Bin Laden?
I just think it's a confusing twist of half-truths and some lies here and there. Something can be made to look like a lie and actually be true.
But then again, why was London hit next? Did the British government decide to copy us and conspire against the subway system there?
My brain is running around in circles trying to wrap itself around these facts, if they are facts.

I'm pretty sure there's enough terrorists in the world that we don't have to accuse our own government of being terrorists in our own country. Though I'm not entirely sure that Bush isn't a terrorist in his own right.

Whether or not the US gov't had a hand in 9/11, they are certainly benefiting from it. I don't think it matters either way. The gov't has so much control now, the world is so different from how things were 6 years ago.

So much emphasis is put on security, but what it really is, is control. For example, I have a friend who travels all over the world, so he has to go through airport security very often. On his last trip he was made to throw away a snowglobe he bought for his mother, because it contained water. It had less than the limit of liquid you are allowed to bring, so he asked if he could put it in a ziploc bag. They refused and made him throw it away. He said the people around him in line got angry with him because he wouldn't just shut up and follow orders.

A lot of people these days seem to be really big on shutting up and following orders. People who don't have been put on terrorist lists. Gay rights groups, animal rights groups, any group having to do with peace, are all considered terrorists. And those National Security Letters! The gov't can now send a letter to a place you do business with (cell phone company, library, etc) and demand personal information about you. You will never know it happened.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Security_Letter

So, I'm not sure if the gov't was actually behind 9/11, but it is pretty clear that they are using it to their best advantage. It is also painfully clear that the majority of Americans really are dumb sheep, good at following orders but terrible at critical thinking.
