I don't listen to a lot of Progressive, I like it, but I'm too preoccupied with thrash, power, and Death/Black right now. And I'm new to sweeping. xp

Beixuelong ... But 4/4 isn't progressive!! gonk Can't you make it 11/12, or atleast 7/8? xd most progressive band have a lot of 4/4 songs, but most of hte times they will change rythem and start to play 7/8. i even saw one band playing 13/14 or something. i really don't know how to play all those rythems. i'm still learning and only can play: 3/4, 4/4 and blues rythems 12/12 (?) but that blues part is a bit to hard, thankfully i don't like to play it eigter.

I just play however the hell I want to play, as long as it sounds good, who the hell cares? I'm currently writing a Power/Death song about the rapture. It rocks, I have 3 verses and a chorus already, lyric wise. When I sit down with my guitar, I'll work on riffing, and try to keep 4/4 with it.

My angst against bands claiming to be progressive is especially because of the classic 7/8 beat. Some bands think that they become progressive instantly after they input a different beat than 4/4. I mean, there's nothing progressive yet in doing that. You can hear that in a lot of places yet no one clames it to be progressive there. I think to some bands, being progressive is just a trick to over-appreciate their music a little. Well, I don't really care actually.. I don't need to listen to music I think is crap, just because they say they're progressive. wink Gosh, I need to start working on my solo-project a little.. work the concept story and draft some lyrics. Won't be long untill I get my laptop and I can actually start working on some music! whee (Of Crimson Lotus's material "Fall of Eden", "Broken", and "Unpleasant Shades of Grey" are mostly composed by me. Of course Pasi, the guitarrist, worked a lot on those as well. Just telling this if you're at all curious to know what I have composed myself)EDIT: Here's a few songs I composed for a side project of mine Grand Mammoth - Morning of no recall (chapter 1) (don't mind the crappy drums and guitars.. it's the orchestral stuff that is importat. biggrin ) Grand Mammoth - Fallacious redemption (chapter 7) (And no, this project wasn't about being progressive metal, it was about having fun and therefore we just did stuff at our own amusement. wink )

I'll listen later, it should be good though. I finished my lyrics for "Nightfall on Humanity". It is awesome so far. I am about to work on the guitars right now.

about rythems, when playing alone it isn't THAT important. but when you play togetter you must have a sort of rythem. without ryther you can't understant each others music, like speaking a different language.
playing without knowing anything of rythems is possible. arjen lucassen isn't good at rythems at all, yet is is making one of the biggest prog bands around,
i really want to hear those songs, but my browser keeps crashing when i click at the (quicktime, i hate it). i'm trying to think of a solution.

Yeah, when I write riffs I try to keep it in a 4/4 rythm, like, not seven 1/4 notes to a riff, but in 4's and 8's, so it makes sense. I know about it, I just don't quite care yet. I can't come up with a decent riff for the song I wrote, and I have awesome lyrics already! gonk

To hell with the idea that drummers can't sing! Also, I loved your work with Crimson Lotus. I can't wait to hear how this turns out.
