...I sort of randomly throw out grabs, actually, unless I'm fighting Peach. To be honest, the only character I really have a proper strategy against at the moment is Peach. As for everyone else, it's still just random a "look at my fancy tech" kind of thing.

I got pill spam to stay on top of as well as my ground game. I have trouble putting grabs in.

When im playing against peach/doc/sheik other floaty characters, when there at about 80-90% i grab and f-throw then f-smash and its usually a tipper and usually the person is DI'ing away. Have to do the f-throw fast though.

tech skill is important, but once you come down to it competitively the player with the better mindgames will always win.

Take a game such as Naruto: Gekitou Ninja Taisen 4. This is a really basic game and doesn't take much to master the gameplay involved, such as Y-canceling and learning the strings. So since players usually have the same knowledge of the combos the game comes down to who has the best mindgames. Tactics that aid to this are: hit confirming, frame traps, pressure strings, etc. Usually the player that can bait their opponent into a throw or into serious damage dealing combos will usually win. Why? Because they had the mindgames to get their opponent into the situation needed to execute their attacks.

Of course tech skill is important. It's essential for keeping up; however, it all comes down to the mindgames. You can practice your combos all you want, but if you can't shut down your opponent's game then you won't have the advantage.

what I do to bait grabs is run up to an opponent while they are in the air then shield when you predict they will pull out an arial. so long as it isn't say fox or falco (or float canceling peach) once they hit your shield just grab (assuming they land in front of you, if they space it to land behind sh out of shield and bair them)
ah the shield grab. One of the most basic things out there but it still works. This is also used in other games too biggrin Kinda like when I play my friend in 3S lol I'll attack him with Spinning Bird Kick and if he blocks, then it's a race to see who can grab first in the next 1-2 frames lol

that doesn't work if they DI away though at any percent....
I know because I only play against marth with marth & shiek. every time I DI away the fsmash is never in reach. even if the marth grabs at 0%.

they only way the fsmash will connect at 80-90% is if they DI towards you.

Could it have something to do with Marth's weight change in PAL?

Would the character who's throwing, weight come into it? Shieks DI is crap in PAL. Almost a bad as CF. I can't say I've ever put someone into that setup. I shall try on my sisters shiek this arvo.

What im saying is you grab and then f-throw before they can DI properly. It only works for peach if they dont DI. Sheik and fox have to be DI'ing towards if there at a high % ( 100+)

oh. well yeah in that case it can work sometimes but not too often (well so long as the person is aware to DI away, if they aren't then you'll get em every time pretty much)

You bet.

By the way, anyone know when a good time to use a U-smash out of shield with Fox instead of a shield grab is? If you need to make character-specific examples, use Peach please. It concerns my friend's Peach the most.

You know, 'cause he thinks technique doesn't matter at all. rofl

I think you should use it when they're floating too high for a grab and they've left themselves vulnerable. Or sometimes if they're at a percent where if you up-threw them they'd go way too high for a follow-up.
