I just finished the book JPOD by Douglas Coupland. It's fiction about this group of people who work in a video game company and who are placed in situations that are most of the time making the news quite often. I wouldn't really recommend it for anyone under 13-14 years old just because of some of the content. But it's extremely funny and VERY contemporary even with the style of writing.
Wow! I never thought I'd see Edge on the Sword put down! I agree it's extremely good.
Also recommend anything by Libba Bray. Her books are set in the Victorian time period and are fantasy based but are absolutely wonderful. Her two books so far are A Great and Terrible Beauty and Rebel Angels.
I also recommend anything Tamora Pierce (including her new one Beka Cooper: Terrier) as well as The Healer's Keep and Lady Oracle whose authors name now escapes me. . .

Right now i am reading a book in the Halo serise. Does anyone know the Halo games? Well, these books are about those games. So far, there are 4 books. The Fall of Reach, before the first Halo, The Flood, during the first Halo, First Strike, before Halo 2, and there is one more during Halo 2 which I remember the name of. They are awsome books with Master Chief in them. ^_^

I play halo from time to time. My brothers play it alot more than i do. I haven't read any of the books though. whee

Currently reading "Legacies" by L.E. Modesitt Jr. I'm kind of undecided about it. It's not terribly boring, but not terribly engaging either. I've just been looking for new authors to read and I've noticed he's written a lot.

Just Finished: The Freedom Writer's Diaries. This is such an inspiring book. I can't tell you in words you're going to have read it yourself. It's so so....(there's no words for it) took me four days to read I think. It's one of those that you just can't put down.
Update: last week I finished 1984 by George Orwell (read it for class). Really good read except for my little flaw being that I read the last line from the book before I start it so I partly ruined it though it was still really good.
Two more books/series to recommend. Anything in the Wheel of Time series. Some of the newer books in the series are getting dry but they're still really interesting. It's a long series so be prepared to dedicate some time to it.
Also "My Father Had a Daughter" I forget the name of the author but it's about Shakespeare's daughter and it's a mix of Cue for Treason and Twelfth Night. I do believe I finished it in two days. It's not all that long but it's just really fun to read.

CassandratheVampire Hmmm some of my favorite books are written by Anne Rice. Like the Vampire Lestat I LOVE THAT BOOK and Merrick and I love a few other written by her. There was also this book called "The Silver Kiss." I had a teacher who knew I liked reading Anne Rice books barrow that book and I though that it was going to be lame but once I opened it and started reading it I couldnt put it down. I also enjoy reading mangas ^^
I think that one of the best books I have ever read is My Name is Chloe by Melody Carlson! It is really amazing! It is about a girl named Chloe {sorry, had to state the obvious whee } who is very "punk" or "tough chick" and she stays this way throughout the entire book, but she also starts off totally not believing in God, and ends up totally believing! I really like it!
It's part of a series, and it is the first book for Chloe, although I think that it is probably like the 6th in the entire series {because there are diaries that come before hers}.
Although, it is really funny, because there are several typos in the books after this one! It makes me laugh! I can't believe that her publishers didn't catch them!

My favorite books are the ones written by Mercedes Lackey and Terry Pratchett. They're brilliant. I enjoy books by Tamora Pierce, too. Especially the Circle of Magic ones.
I love manga as well. Mainly Yu Yu Hakusho, Hunter x Hunter, Fruits Basket, Skip Beat, and Baby and Me.

However, it's not exactly a movie based on a book because it's more a movie based on the ideals of the book and the teacher, I suppose. It's really hard to explain.
I think so far the only book that isn't a huge hit that I've read before seeing the movie was Whale Rider and it took me a day to read only because it was captivating especially if you like hearing of other cultures.

happyazngirl right now i'm reading Twilight by Stephanie Meyer (i think that 's how you spell her last name) so far it's the best book i have read The...uhhh... I'm not sure what you call it preview? oh the book Isabella Swan's move to Forks, a small, perpetually rainy town in Washington, could have been the most boring move she ever made. But once she meets the mysterious and alluring Edward Cullen, Isabella's life takes a thrilling and terrifying turn. It is absolutley amazing, my absolute favorite book ever!!!
