Karma Loca I am all for martial arts... It helps you to stay safe, it gives you a goal and most of all it help you learn dicipline and that it really hard thing to aquire. I'm hyperactive and when I learned Karate I had more control to focus in life. Well it also helped me get rid of the surplus of energy I had. Damn shout border isn't working stressed . I know exactly what you mean when you say "It gives you a goal". The second I started Martial Arts I put an imaginary "wanted poster" on the Blackbelt there. He was the guy I wanted to be better than. Don't get me wrong though, he and I are pretty good friends too. My posts look so plain without it gonk .

Nova Dreamer I teach Tae Kwon Do to kids as well as practice that as well as various other Martial Arts myself. I think part of the misconception people get with Martial arts is that it is a physical activity alone. I personally think that both the external and internal arts are alot about what they can teach you to better your everyday life. The discipline has helped me greatly in the past, and I have learned things that I can apply to normal every day things to help me *Dim Mak and other various internal martial arts are very good for this* and my more external training has helped my quality of life to become better than when before when all I would do is read or study. I agree that to some the idea of testing themselves is fun or some such, but that can also be controlled in a learning setting so that those tendencies can be handled less destructively. So I think that Martial Arts is a good thing you might say 3nodding Damn shout border isn't working stressed . I agree. All I did before I joined was: Homework, PS2, and Computer [This is when I wasn't eating, sleeping, etc. sweatdrop ]. Now I work-out like hell, do homework, and spend sometime on MSN and Gaia. My posts look so plain without it gonk .

Assholes start fights, and sometimes assholes know martial arts. The martial arts does not make them violent.
Oh, and I've taken Jujutsu for the past ten years. I now instruct a few lessons.

took me a while but i can finally post. i agree, martial arts makes you better and smarter, and also helps a person understand the human body. I've realized in Tae Kwon Do a long time ago (about 1. yr ago) that you can easily break an arm with just a hand. (and the shoulder) that's pretty much the reason why the disciplined martial artists dont' attck anyone unless defending someone or themselves. Those who attack first probably..... A) needs anger management B) are doing it to showoff or to get attention C) because they have not been discilpined D) they lived in a community, or still do, where tahy have to street fight to defend themselves and can't tell wrong from right anymore because violence has brainwashed their minds and/or other things that i can't think of that others might be able to think of.
there are reasons why people are who they are now wether it's physical, mental whatever! If this keeps going, the conversation will go back to Why are people so violent? or something like that. alot of things can do that.
i love martial arts and my goal is to become a black belt! ^_^

It helps you fight. Fighting is not good or smart. It's the last resort. But it is sometimes necessary to know it. And I enjoy knowing I have that last resort covered. Sorry, but I must say I wouldn't see any Tae Kwon Do practitioner as having that sort of power. I tremendously dislike the art. As I have already said, people resort to violence when everything else fails. If the mind fails, they use their body. As for street fighting, I learned martial arts to protect myself. And I know violence isn't the right way, even then I have fought many times.

You may be taught to do it one way, but you'll always add some changes, to make it your own. One way of fighting can't be better than the other. It's the fighter ["It's not the car, it's the person behind the steering wheel"]. Although, about the smarter thing: It makes you smarter in ways. You'll know how to handle situations properly. You'll know when to hold back, and when to let it loose. You're reaction time is faster; which means you're brain is working faster. I myself am not a big fan of fighting. It is a last resort for me too, but, if someone tries to harm me or anyone I care about, I am not going to hesitate for a second, to kick their @$$ =P! My posts look so plain without it gonk .

I'm afraid certain styles can be better than others. I dislike Tae Kwon Do because of its lack of joint locks and ground fighting. Meaning an art with good striking, along with joint locks and groundfighting, is going to train someone better than Tae Kwon Do is gonna. Sure, a good TKD fighter might beat someone who knows joint locks and groundfighting. Unlikely though. No TKD fighter has beaten me, and I put that down to the art I know, not myself as a fighter. Also, reactions can sometimes be subconscious. I don't move by the discipline of "Don't think. Feel." for no reason. Thinking clutters up your mind in a fight. You don't have to kick their a**. You just have to stop them.

You have to have planted the knowledge into yourself, as to know what to do without thinking. What I meant was, try to harm me, I'll just mearly beat you down enough to end the thing. Try to harm someone I care about, you better be prepared for an a**-whooping of a lifetime. Like I mentioned on the first page, one Martial Art might focus on grappling. Another might focus on striking. The more styles you'll know, the harder to touch you become [If you have the will]. My posts look so plain without it gonk .

the TKD class i go to is more into the forms or poom-se. like a dance of kicks and blocks, in a funny way os saying it. Also, i do I like the way of fighting in martial arts, i'm just not good at it at all, which i know those who are more into the fighting will say it's a disgrace for me to not be able to sparr or fight, but don't say that i'm not trying to get better. I've been interested into karate or nijistsu lately, but i don't have the money to do all i want to do right now and i'm not gonna give up in TKD becasue i've gone too far to quit and it would be a disgrace on my promise to myself and my Mom that i will never give up again! (long story shortened by A LOT!!!!) yeah, martial arts is viewed by many different people in many different ways, such as a type of art or style of fighting. one thing i know is that many people join for defending others and ourselves.
I beleive that in martial arts you don't have time to think, and if anyone is good at martial arts, they won't need to think to attack, defend or counter attack someone. thinking about it will take too long and it only takes half a second for someone really good to make a strike!
It does help a person learn to fight, but in order to fight, a person must learn. Learn how to kick, block, punch, controll, balance, agaility whatever! no one ever stops learning at anything. Constantly i am learning about martial arts, the history of it, how to teach it, how to do it, etc.. this is what i beleive and this is what i will stick with untill something comes up. what ya'll said, if anyone DARES to pick a fight with a friend of mine! i will defend them wioth all my might(There i go talking bigger than i should be). That there is my motivator in training and getting better at sparring and fighting.
P.S.-what martial arts do ya'll take? and what you think about it because i would like to try out other types to see which i like better. so far i've been interested in karate and ninjistsu, i just need to know what training they do.
(sorry it's so long)

Well technically, you are training yourself in a certain thing. This should count as a knowledge. But I agree, with the Body thing, because the body must be ready for all this; should the occasion ever arise. It's allways better to know more than one martial art ninja . Here, Here XxGuardianDevilsxX.
what you say is true. Ive taken Judo for a while, and its almost entirely defensive, or how to defend yourself if attacked. But i must say that there are some dojos that do teach purely offensive moves, like a nin-po ninjutsu dojo, my friend is in one, its for ninja hand-to-hand and weapons training. (Might have gotten the name a little wrong)
