Since Ecclesiastical Latin is an official language, I'd go with that. The only thing is that there are a couple of differences in words in each. You're right that Church Latin sounds a lot like Italian though. (Or did you just mean the vowels?)
EDIT: There's a way to have some short vowels...If y'all want I can post the Classical pronunciation as well. But the rest of what I post will still generally be Ecclesiastical. (There are some differences in words.)

You don't worry about me, I have books and things I've been learning from. They are supposedly Classical Latin, but its not like I'd know the difference.
But, on paper, are Ecclesiastical and Classical written the same way? I'd want to learn Latin to just be able to understand better a lot of the modern languages that came from or were influenced by it, and to read the various classics ans crap. So, I don't really care that much about pronunciation, since I don't plan to go to the Vatican any time soon, ever. So if both types would be understandable to me when written, I guess I don't care. I'll just read it like Spanish or something.
Isn't Ecclesiastical Latin now just the Latin the pope somebody said was "official" back some time in the middle ages ago? And I think that pope was Italian, so he made his pronunciation, the Italian sounding one, the official.

I don't know...I'll look that up, but it's still an official language. Otherwise Rosetta Stone never would have made a course for it. biggrin The Latin Library has both Church documents as well as Classical ones if you'd like to see for yourself. There are some words that are different though.

Ooh, that is ineresting. But, I don't have enough vocabulary yet yo be able to distinguish between they types of Latin just by looking at it. Are the differences in word choice, or spelling or what? I'm already aware of the pronunciation differences, as you know.

I meant for you to look for the long vowels. I see none. neutral

Well, you can't tell if the vowles are long by looking, thats my problem.
Are the words really that different? I know I read somewhere that studying classical latin should be enough to understand ecclesiastical latin, but what do I know. That stinks.

If they were long they'd have the line (still don't know word...) over the vowels to differentiate them.
It's very few words. 3nodding At least, that's what I've heard...

Its called a macron. And as far as I've seen, its only used for pronunciation guides to Latin, not in actual Latin texts.
Oh, you said "completely different words" and that threw me off.
