Wraith of Embercross The Samurai Yay, here comes the random post from The Samurai! I think there have been disCUSSions on cussing.. no pun intended.. but my stance remains on the subject: Cussing is something that some people take liberty in but I myself do not participate in. If someone cusses around me, I'm not offended, it's up to them. The thing is, as Christians we need to represent Christ. whether we like it or not, we are representing Christ in EVERYTHING we do. So if we're going around cursing up a storm, I think we are misrepresenting Christ. What good comes out of cussing anyway? it just proves you have a lack of vocabulary... smile Yes, I agree. I actually managed to find a verse after I posted this, and I am surprised I did not think of it earlier. I feel uncomfortable when my friends do it, because it did not start to show until recently, and I always had the idea that they didn't do that sort of thing. Now I am not sure, and we have not been getting along very well. I believe they think my stance on certain things challenging, and I have no idea what to do. But there I am again, getting off subject. I want to encourage those trying not to curse. I will pray for you. For one thing, I think saying that someone 'lacks' a vocabulary simply by Ephesians 4:29 says, "Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen." cussing is peoples only argument against it. Cursing is wrong, as to use hurtful words to insult people, but not to just use them. The bible never stated these words were wrong, people stated that. I myself try to restrain from using 'bad' words around people who might feel uncomfortable, but people who know me know that I do slip up and say hell or damn. But around my friends I say what I want. I know many complicated words that as about as useful to use in everyday language as curse words, and honestly I think the only point of knowing these words is to either show off how smart you are, or to use in your writing. I just prefer using cuss words in my talk. Also Ephesians 4:29 says, "Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen." Unwholesome could mean rude, which any form of fancy talk could be used, or straight up hateful. I could build my friend up after he's been dumped using cuss words. Nice way "Don't worry man she gave you to much problems. You can do better." My way "Screw that. She gave you alot of sh!t. You can find someone who'll treat you better." I don't beleive you should call girls bitches so casually, and use down grading words to describe some one, but to say one can't use any of those words period is the biggest load of bullsh!t, or word you rather me use poppycock, I've heard. Actually Moonshadow F.U.C.K. originally meant fornication under the consintion of the King. So it means to have sex without marriage, but with the King's permission, and it's also the most versitile word in the English language. The sland version that is. Anyone want a link to the documentary?

It really depends if you START cussing at a young age. I come from a christian family, if we're about to run into something, or something serious just suddenly pops up, they do cuss. Like pain, or a car accident, its a reaction for when things go wrong, though, I don't do that. I say ouch, crap, craps(from a foxtrot comic, very funny XD), or dang. I guess those are substitutes but still not cussing.. What really annoys me are "christians" who sprinkle it every other word, and even more so is taking the Lord's name in vain. I can understand sluring God and Gosh sometimes, but plainly yelling out Jesus Christ in vain is not acceptable.

Moonshadow11111 Lazarus The Resurected kairigirl321 I personally think that its not good to cuss at all. When i wasnt close with God before i cussed alot. But now i know that it isnt good and God wouldnt like it. I personaly don't see why God should have an issue with me using words that undoutedly came from Him. (see Tor of Bable) so since We were given the abiltiy an dthe capacity to use language why not use it all. In my opinion that goes hand-in-hand with the "Let nothing unwholesome come out of your mouth" thing. You said before that it was an issue of peoples' attitudes towards it, but maybe that's because it's offensive to them. Ever think of that? Besides, just because you have the stregth to kill somebody, does that make it right?Wholesome is in the eye of the beholder. just because somehting is by comon consent offensive does not mean that it is.and how does speach relate in any way to murder. the funny thing is i have to continuously say this you can offend someone with words any time you want you don't need to cuss. so then should we then outlaw any word because it might hurt someone's feeling?

Actually we here in the south are generally considered to be better mannered than the rest of the US... have you ever been to LA or NY? They are really heavy on the language there.

I'm 21 and my mother still yells at me if I call my brother stupid. She is right to do so because I hurt his feelings when I call him names. often times we forget to consider how someone else feels.

You just made my point. calling some one stupid is not cussing but it is infact hurtfull and belittleing. so realy any words used to hurt someone can be considered included under the guidelines set down in Ephesians. however i submit that certain words can be used to convey feelings too harsh for "polite" words or phrases, or to add a more real feel when writing. when this debate is concluded (or abandoned) i will still cuss.

Hmmm... You guys have a lot of opinions on this issue. To curse or not to curse? That is the question. Some of you said yes it is OK; however, the majority said no. Hmmm...
Well, here is my opinion. I do not swear/curse/use derogatory terms. I don't use them because: a) I do not see a point in it and b) I never read about Jesus saying those words in the Bible. Since I want to be like Jesus someday, I've decided to avoid them.
Now to some who are so set on using them: I think you should reconsider who it is that you are trying to please. Does it really matter what other people think? Well, in some areas yes it does. However, Christians have to first and foremost please God. In the Bible and all over the world today Christians are pleasing God but people are not too happy.
What you need to do about it is pray and ask God what He wants you to do. Remember the narrow path is not the easy one. And according to what I've read in the Bible, it says to watch your words, and do everything for God's glory. In other words worship God in everything you do. So, if you do not plan on worshipping God when you curse, or people are not drawn to Jesus shining through you because you curse then you should try to stop. I think that if you claim to be Christian your non-Christian friends will be watching you more closely because people in places like North America have a tendency to find the hypocrisy behind your words.
So, you non-Christian friends may not care if you curse and/or swear around them; but, they may doubt and/or disbelieve your claims to being Christian. In fact they may just call you a liar and instead of drawing them to Christ, you are causing them to turn away from them.
So, that's my opinion. Please, respond to it politely. Also, if the owner/administrators tell you not to curse in the forums; DON'T CURSE! The Bible says we are to respect the authority placed on our lives, and that would include the guild's administrators because they are in authority here! You do or do not bring glory to God by how you respect authority in your life.
I did not mention any names here, because I did not want to point the finger.

Let me put it this way, I can make you feel uncomfortable by saying cuss words, but I can hurt you worse by not. I know people who can make you cry, throw a punch, or simply keep your miuth shut without using a single cuss word. Besides hears a thought, some people feel uncomfortable when some one is using slang, (not cuss words). Now who's fault is that?

Ok you can mention names, i mena before Mr Hart showed up i was pretty much the only voice advocating the injustice of singling out a hanful of words.
as to what you said about Jesus not using them how do you knwo that for a fact? i mean yeah the bible dosent mention it, but on the other hand the bible is translation. the most effective language to use when teaching is the language common to the people being taught. for instance 'cursed' could quite possibly be substituted for '********'. even if it was translated that way or with an equivalant now the issue is, modern language. somewhere along the course of the evolution of language some person decided that certain words were not appropriate for people to read. the bible has been rewritten to adjust language plenty of times before so as to make it easier to understand, what's to say that perhaps they also didn't clean up the language also?
as to christianity being doubted due to the language used. i could see it. but that's because most christians tend to propogate the myth that we are all perfectly polite unrisking and somewhat boring people. this does not endear non christians to us because it makes themworry about peing painted in that same way. it's not my fault that other people think that you can't swear and be christian.

But it is your fault if you do something just because you think its OK and have never prayed to God and asking if he thinks it's OK. Like I said in my reply, Christians have to love and please God first! If it makes people happy too... Actually scrap that! It is good that you are not obsessed with making people happy! I mean that means that you have the stubborness to stand up for your faith and live it out (I'm answering Lazarus) despite the fact that it might turn people away. I mean, our brothers and sisters out in the world are being killed for their faith and choosing to be that stubborn to endure what they are facing.
However you can be stubborn when it comes to your sinful nature. You could be right, maybe God doesn't care about whether or not you curse. However you could also be wrong. Are you willing to admit that you are wrong if you were to pray and God's answer to the question, "Do you care if I cuss?" is, "Yes"?
So, maybe it is time you asked God where He stands on this issue? If you can tell me that "Yes, I prayed to God and He answered through *blank* (Bible, prayer, another Christian adult/counsellor, etc.) that he is OK with me cursing" then you have convinced me and I say keep on doing it, because clearly you are obeying the Lord. However, if God's answer is "Yes, I do care/have a problem with you cussing" then I recommend that you do stop; because if you don't then you are not being obedient you are being disobedient and practicing the stubborness of sin and not the stubborness of the Spirit.
That's all I have to say about your rebuttal, Lazarus (aka comeback)!

Ok i could go into a long-winded rebuttal of my own, but i'm feeling lazy at the moment. however i will not pray about my language. i don't have to. the rteason being simple, when God called me back to the flock the impression i got was basicaly "hey a*****e quite ******** arround and come back home where you belong" God used in His infinite wisdom language he knew i would understand and be swayed by.

Ditto, I use to never cuss. I do but typing it not really saying. My dad cuss a lot when he's man and so does my mom but she doesn't cuss anymore. I sister wants to I can tell.
I think cussing is stupid and unoriginal way to try to insult someone and tying to express your feelings.
I remember when I was 12 I said "damn" The weird part is that I've never heard that word before, but I said it. I knew that it was something bad.
God have you a mouth to talk and defend yourself but not to use dirty words.
