THE LAST BOOKS OUT! DAMN IT!
PostPosted: Tue Oct 24, 2006 12:41 pm

Just finished The End, so excuse me while I rant about Snicket's genius for a while.

I defenitely felt that the thirteenth book showed exactly what makes this a great series. Not only was it witty and humorous (the "in the dark" passage cracked me up), but it held great messages in it as well. Not to mention this series has been so fascinating... It feels hard to find original and enjoyable work nowadays, and Series of Unfortunate Events is so original it makes me want to cry tears of joy.

From V.F.D. to the Baudelaire's story, I think it'll be very difficult to find another series that is such fun to investigate and really get absorbed in. Of course I'm very sad that there will be no new books coming out, but at least now I can spend all my time going through the other books in the series looking for those tiny things that I missed before.

I've heard a lot of people saying that Snicket left too many unanswered questions, but I think that's another thing which makes the ending interesting. He mentioned in The End that whenever the Baudelaires found an answer, it only gave them another question, and I'm sure that would be the case if we had been given more answers. Leaving us clueless about certain things leaves a bit of a cliffhanger, but not so much that we would throw the book across the room.

In any case, I stand by the fact that I think this was a sensational end to the series, regardless of any mysteries.

Beatrice - Okay, pardon me, but what the Hell? I mean, the baby, that's pretty straight forward, but who is she named after? That's the Beatrice I want to know about! We know she's dead, but who is she? The only thing we've really learned is that the Baudelaires /do/ know who she is and that she's dead, since they named Kit's daughter after her. Is she their mother after all? That's the only dead person they know that hasn't had her name mentioned in the text, isn't it?

page 321: "The girl, named after the Baudelaire's mother, howled and howled..."

It's my guess that Beatrice thought that Snicket was dead, and then married Mr. Baudelaire, and that's the heartache that was referred to.

Mr. MooCow

Ahh! So the second Beatrice was searching for Violet, Sunny and Klaus, not Beatrice searching for her children. It's being cleared up now.

(So Beatrice Snicket tried to contact Lemony in the future...?)

Exactly it. For the interested, when looking at TBL, I figure that all correspondance from Lemony is to Beatrice #1 and all letters to Snicket are from Beatrice #2. It seems to make sense that way (eg: "I'll be the ten-year-old girl...). Back to my initial question though: The point of his research for ASOUE? Clearly not for Beatrice #1, she's dead. Not for Beatrice #2, he's already begun writing it before she contacts him (Again, I don't have the quote, but she was saying how his account of the Baudelaires' lives differ greatly from what they've told her at some points). I'd say that this is further proof the Baudelaires do not die when the Beatrice sinks, since they live to recount their series of unfortunate events to Beatrice. Perhaps much later it sinks and thus they become separated?

Just speculation, but if Lemony was in love with Beatrice, the Baudelaire's mother, than my guess is the research was for her memory to look after her children in a way.

This is why, in the Beatrice Letters, Beatrice said that her betime is fairly early...she's a kid!

I think what Para means, and what I believe too, is that LS researched the Baudelaire so that he could look after Beatrice's children. And therefore do so in her memory, since she herself couldn't. Hope this clears that up. 3nodding

Exactly right. 3nodding

I said for Beatrice's memory, since he loves her. Not literally her memory looking after them.

I still believe everything we're all working on,but while reading it again,I saw something weird. o_o

    XD Probably nothing though.

On page 309 of The End it says this:

The custom of my family is to name a baby for someone who has died".
"Ours too," Sunny said, remembering something her father had told her when she had inquired about her own name.

I always thought most of the Beatrices letters was after The End was Beatrice #2,but if it says that 'Without Violet/Sunny/Klaus I'm an orphan or something like that, then maybe Violet/Sunny/Klaus were named after relatives/parents of Beatrice #1 and the one that says that she's a orphan because they're gone is #1.
XD Assuming the Violet/Sunny/Klaus were named after her relative.

I still liked the other theory.

o_o And I think I had a theory about how Erewhom and that other one could be the parents in disguise because of something Klaus said that thinking the sillhouette of one of them was his father.

    Damn!
    Another book?!
    ninja
    Same year as Harry Potter?
